band slip How do you know?

I have never had one but I hear that you have the feeling of reflux and indigestion. some ppl cough especially at night. some ppl get really restricted and can't even keep liquids down. I think if you are slipped you pretty well know that something is wrong. but there is different degrees of slippage. that's why you should call your doctor if you have concerns. I hope everything is okay with you
  2. it is normal. in your liquids you will be allowed broth and stock which has protein. your doctor is allowing the time your surgery needs to heal. you will have sutures that hold your band and port in place. we have an excess so that short of time you will not be harmed. if you ask him anything ask about chewable multi vitamins and calcium you should be taking. be ready with everything you will need post surgery. make sure you have teas, crystal lite or similar, broth, stock, sugar free jello and sugar free popsicles. good luck and use us for all your concerns. a lot of ppl are glad to help. oh and you likely won't be to hungry. you just drink more and something hot is more satisfying.

    Feeling Guilty

it is really quick to be on solids already. this period of time you need to diet. sorry I said that word but now that your swelling is gone you have no restriction. so you have to diet. pizza isn't something you should be eating. but since you did I hope you at least enjoyed it. now.....eat 4 oz of protein and a vegetable and pretend you have restriction. welcome to bandster hell.

    Happy Easter Everyone

we celebrated easter dinner today. ham, baked Beans, scalloped potatoes, green beans and a great carrot cake my daughter made. I had a bit of problem with the ham. I had to excuse myself so didn't eat anything else. but I did have a small slice of the carrot cake. and I had a Protein drink when I got home. wishing every one a Happy EASTER!!!! enjoy the day without beating yourself up.

    I'm not drinking enough water

I don't think I worried about the amount I was drinking or eating at your stage. I was just happy to get my supplements and medications down. a couple of things I do to insure plenty of hydration is I have a 18 oz glass water bottle in my bathroom. this way when I take my medication I can keep track of how much I drink there. and than by my chair in the living room I have a 32 oz of water or crystal light always filled. I know I am hydrating well when I keep track this way. as far as eating goes the most you might be able to do is the protein drinks. drink broth, or stock. I found making my own stock tasted a whole lot better. even sugar free popsicles or consider liquid. good luck. hoping for a speedy recovery for you

    Sick and Liver Shirking Diet

ginger tea or ginger ale. since you are pre surgery a diet ginger ale might be helpful. but I really like the ginger tea as well. if you are way nauseated tell your doctor he might prescribe something for it.

    Am i eating to slow

the rule of thumb I was given was a meal should last 20 min's. that is how long food stays in the pouch and starts to move into your stomach. when I eat I take a bite and count to 10 slowly. if I don't allow time for that bite to make it down and start digesting I will get stuck with the sond bite. the main thing too, is to make your bites small.

Dry food that sticks versus sliders

I can't eat overcooked food. all my proteins are rare. and I only eat dark meat chicken or turkey. when you are eating solids it is so important to space your bites apart. make sure the food is going through the band. take a bite of food and wait to a count of 10 and than take another little bite. it's really hard to take your time. I know I have eaten to fast if my food still has some heat to it. I am getting real good at eating cold food. and than there are some days where solids just isn't going to work. got to plan for those days. so you are still getting your protein from food sources but yet giving your stoma a chance to rest.

    Help!

talk to your doctor. I have never had a slipped band so don't have any idea how exercise might effect it. when your band is unfilled you need to go into diet mode. pretend you are filled and eat accordingly. it will be hell because of the hunger but if you want to come out of this without gaining weight you are going to have to be weighing measuring your food. and keep your choices on the healthy side. good luck. I hope this resolves on its own

Best Place to buy protein shakes

try amazon.com. they sell a lot of Protein products. like nectar brand, click, chik etc. the prices are good too. I also buy premier singles at costco. they freeze well and I like to eat it like those frozen malts. good luck on your surgery

Had a fill yesterday-not my first!

I agree with 2muchfun, if you cannot take in fluids you need to have some fill removed. call your doctor

    Uh oh!

the pill is gone. even in our pouches things will digest. I had one episode where no one could explain to me what happen. I was told esophageal spasm, swelling from being stuck and all I had was a drink of Water when I woke up in the morning. I had a heck of a time for hours. was even getting my shoes on to go to the ER when finally some warm tea went through the stoma and didn't cause me slime or bping. that little white pill may have started all this. it's good that you called your doctor he may unfill you just a bit so fluids can get through. we get dehydrated quickly so that will be a concern of his. give your stoma a couple of hours of rest and than try warm tea. and just sip tiny tiny sips. hope you feel better soon

    I Didn't Get STUCK!

I saved your posting to read last because you always make me smile. I really enjoy you enjoying life. when I had read the headline of course I thought you ate a 8 oz steak or something and it didn't get stuck. one of my three things I want to do when I reach goal is to go to a water park and slide down the slides. so I identify with this. good going.

    insurance coverage

I kept my appointment just to get the denial so I could appeal. I don't know what a insurance company has to do to change their coverage. you can also involve your insurance commissioner of your state. they may have your answers and maybe of help. I was once denied gyn surgery because they said it was a pre existing illness. I wrote to my insurance commissioner and they had a talk with my insurance company. the decision only took a week. insurance companies don't like the commissioner involved. I wish you lots of luck

    Is something wrong....

after surgery you are swollen from the sutures etc. after a fill you get the same type of swelling. after a few days to even weeks it might take that long for the swelling to go down. one time after a fill it took me 3 weeks to eat solids easily again. but I got hungry after eating so the next month had another fill of 1 cc. it is taking awhile to let things settle down. this is where patience comes into play when you are trying to reach the green zone. everyone has a different fill amount for their green zone. if you are eating solids 3 times a day and perhaps a snack and feel satisfied for hours after that is the green zone.

    Nausea?

being nauseated could be a sign of low blood sugar. if you don't have one get a glucose meter. your doctor needs to prescribe it. if you get it from one of the clubs like diabetic care the meter is free you just have to buy or have insurance pay for the strips etc. but I do think this is something you should let your doctor know.

    Updated BariatricPal Forum Rules

alex, at first I really didn't like that the forum was getting all surgery types mixed up. but I am becoming accustomed to it now. actually enjoy some of the responses. but when the lapband gets slammed I've been having a hard time not coming to the fellow lapbander aid in defending our surgery choice. would this be against the rules? I have stayed out of the arguments but there are ex banders that have strong opinions scaring the bengenzys (sp) out of our newbies and ones asking which surgery is right for them. it is very difficult, which most banders stay away from is all the complications each and every surgery has. but boy we are told how wrong we were and why and articles to read etc. I like that you are addressing this issue. thanks

    Can the band break?

my answer is no too. it would just become stuck and come back up with a whole bunch of slime. and why would anyone with a band eat anything so big anyways. you can put this fear back to bed.

    Recipe section for each surgery

great site for the recipes. printing out the snacks. some of them look so good. getting pretty tired of protein bars and yogurt.
  22. a lot of ppl have a tighter band in the morning. it is the only meal I am allowed to drink instead of eat if its early. a green smoothie with protein in it. it wasn't a problem until I reached the green zone. I will also do a mocha protein in my coffee. but the eggs I praised before is so hard to eat without trouble. band weirdness

2 yrs in, no weight loss!

this was how my doctor broke it down. 1000-1200 cal a day, 300-400 cal. per meal. 60 g of Protein. 20 per meal. 15-30g of carbs per meal, 5g of fat per meal. I didn't do sugar because my carbs were total carbs which includes sugar. and if I ate salmon or a really healthy protein fat I didn't have to follow the 5g of fat per meal. 64oz of Water a day. remember protein shakes have 100 cal or more per serving. so make your protein come from food. protein first, salad or vegetables second and lastly carbs if you are still feeling hungry. a cup full of food per meal is about what your pouch can hold. I hope this is helpful

    Feeling frustrated. ..

I can see by your stats that you are having problems. can you start another post and tell us a little more about yourself. like fills and band size what you are eating. etc. we would love to be able to perhaps help you or at least direct you in the right direction.

4 day post op - all well but?

slime occurs when you have over eaten or are stuck. it just fills your pouch with slime. your esophagus creates this slime. I ususally have to because my band won't let me get rid of it by going through the band just lean over the toilet and it comes out. like a baby that spits up. it isn't coming from the stomach but the pouch. the slime is mucous of some sort.
