I am going to agree with b-52. I cannot in good conscious respond to a sleever or gastric bypass on food. it would make me so uncomfortable. so what is sad is I noticed a lot of sleeve questions go unanswered. I am not getting as involved or giving advice because I don't want to get embroiled in a fight over something I post that is perfect for a banded person. our problems are different. I too wish alex could at least keep the forums separated.

I thought I was (fill in the blank), but really, I was just fat.
terrydumont46 replied to LipstickLady's topic in Rants & Raves
I was always so out of breath, thought it was my chf but it was because I was fat. I am never out of breath now. I can bend over for long periods of time and never sweat or have sob. it wasn't bad knees that kept me from crossing them, it was just fat. -
your body is adjusting to the lower calorie intake. it thinks it is going into starvation mode. with all your exercise you are diffently in negative calorie intake. we are women and our bodies really hold onto fat because we are the baby producers. up your calorie count. change it up. all week long. and drink lots and lots of water. plain old simple water. keep on trudging as long as you are being healthy your body will follow suit.

Active member of paranoia hell.......what does stuck food feel like?
terrydumont46 replied to prolife2014's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
food should digest as normal even in your pouch. as above always notify your doctor because he/she may have a different solution. but if you are still feeling stuck(?) drink some water and let the water either push the food through or dislodge it so you can bring it up. when drinking water with food in your pouch be ready to be near a toilet. it will come up like a baby spitting up. after a stuck issue it is best to drink broths and tea popsicles jello etc. yes you are going to be hungry. we all went through it.. for a couple of months until you start getting fills you will be hungry. drink a lot of warm stuff. it really helps. I am sorry you are going through this but put it in your book of learning. your stoma can swell for no reason at all. I always judge my stoma in the morning. my doctor likes the ring on the finger to judge whether the stoma maybe swollen. ring tight so may your band. you will be fine. and yes it is very uncomfortable and painful when something is stuck. -
Restarting fills after lapse in time.
terrydumont46 replied to Carol Sue's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
it's never to late. it all depends on the doctor you see about the fills. I would imagine you would get a fill in relation to the size of your band. but every doctor is different about things. welcome back and I wish you well -
look at the pop tart box. perhaps not as bad as you think. but the fresh strawberries and perhaps some cool whip might help get over the craving. you have been doing so good I don't think it would be the worse thing to happen if you gave into a craving once in a great while.

Will I be able to get rid of my CPAP machine?
terrydumont46 replied to Bandista's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I did do a trial run back on the cpap and decided my reflux came because as long as I wore the cpap mask I never turned on my stomach. I can sleep on my stomach now since the wt. loss, but sometimes get the reflux. I will be mentioning this to the doctor since I already take 2 priolsecs a day. and don't eat after dinner or drink for that matter. -
Will I be able to get rid of my CPAP machine?
terrydumont46 replied to Bandista's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
my surgeon said that at every 30 lbs lost that the fit of the mask and the volume needed has changed. I just went by my husband who says I don't snore anymore and I sleep through the night . but when I stopped using the cpap I am now getting acid reflux. I am wearing the cpap tonight to see if it will make a difference. I don't mind wearing it. I just don't like to anymore because the mask doesn't fit right and it drives me nuts hearing the air escape. my apnea doctor has retired so I would have to go to a brand new doctor and go over my massive medical history. oh brother. -

I too broke a bone when I was 4 weeks out. broke my wrist and both arm bones. had to have surgery and still to this day have to wear a splint. a arm I worked around and still took walks but a foot. don't think you can work around that one. I hope it heals fast and the pain gets less and less.

I eloped and have no regrets. still married after 29 years. we told both our girls if they wanted to do what you want to do that it would be a okay with us. but both got married in my backyard. with a casual dinner afterwards. no matter how you get married it won't take the love out of your relationship. good luck and congrat's

Stuck? Warning signs?
terrydumont46 replied to futureformerfattie's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
if I get stuck I know right away there is a problem. I drink water when I am uncomfortable while eating and I know I am stuck. the water will either push the item through or the water will dislodge the item so you can spit it up. now I am not suggesting to drink water with meals. I am on the side of no water with or after eating for awhile. if I do I will pb. I only use this as a way to dislodge a stuck item. I agree that it might be a irritated vagus nerve or a esophagus spasm. try some warm tea. your pouch is still part of the whole digestive system. it should empty 20-30 min's. you need to call your doctor. let him know what is going on if you are still having problems tomorrow. but either way call him so you can get on medications to help with the reflux and indigestion. hope all is okay and you feel better soon. -
yes you are ready for a fill. first and foremost eat what is on your list and if that isn't holding you eat something healthy to get you to your next meal. greek yogurt, protein bar, something hot to drink, or now that we are having such warm weather a ice coffee with protein. eat something protein.

Proof of attempted (Failed) weight loss
terrydumont46 replied to HalloweenBaby24's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
go to your doctor office or call them. ask them to go through your records and find your highest weight recorded. and than it is mostly your word. writing a letter indicating the wt. loss programs you have tried. if one of them was nutria-system, jenny craig, or weight watchers. the companies will have record your joining. if you bought any books like south beach diet there will be record even with a company like amazon. but generally I believe your written statement is all they are looking for. good luck. your primary care doctor will back up all your attempts too. -
Already hit major roadblock "sigh"
terrydumont46 replied to TatorTot's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
hospitals won't let you drive yourself after surgery. but if you were to take a taxi to a nearby hotel or motel and spend the night they shouldn't have a problem with that. ask your doctor if he/she would be okay with that. and perhaps there is a train you can ride to and from. there are always ways to get this done. good luck. -
First time food stuck
terrydumont46 replied to Christy929's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I ate walnuts once and they got stuck. I used water to clear the pouch and band. a few hours later I had dinner and got stuck right away. again I used water and not only did my dinner come up but a piece of the walnut shot out. walnuts are off my list of foods needless to say. it's hard sometimes to know if the band stoma has cleared everything out. -
I thought it was a good idea but...
terrydumont46 replied to windfaerie's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
using any kind of protein powder in stuff is a no no unless you use this method. using cold or warm liquid mix your powder with it.. I am talking just enough to make a paste with the powder. now carefully add the hot liquid and stir. sorta like putting eggs or sour cream into a hot dish. temper it in. works everytime. no separation. I do this in the morning with my coffee so I can have a latte. -
Giving Up your favorite foods
terrydumont46 replied to TatorTot's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I also feared that all I was going to give up and poor me. but now that I am in my zone I know I can eat anything, this is where the band really does its work. you can't possibly eat a lot of your fav's. not enough to show up on the scale. when you can only eat a half of a junior burger and a couple of fries you aren't going off your diet. and in the most part food isn't what you crave anymore. it is something you need to eat so your stomach doesn't growl. it is the amount for me per serving, not what I eat. now I am careful of high calorie sliders. I only buy sugar free or low calorie sliders as Snacks and just stay away from anything my band says yes to. -
Empty but still getting sick...
terrydumont46 replied to Heather_8.1.14's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
a couple of things come to mind about what you are going through. firstly is your hormones. they could be causing swelling in your stoma and band. also if you are breast feeding the extra Fluid needed to keep the milk producing. if the band has slipped, having trouble eating is one of the first complaints. call your doctor right away. he needs to do the tests to determine what is going on with your band. -
How do you feel about eating out after weight loss surgery?
terrydumont46 replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
my husband just asked me out to dinner and I told him no. restaurants just don't hold the same excitement they once did. I know I would only eat a few bites and it would be it. my husband understood. I cooked him a ribeye that night just to make up for being so negative. -
Put that scale in the closet. only weigh at your doctor's. my weight loss is I stay the same for weeks and than all of the sudden 5 lbs comes off. we all lose weight differently. no matter what the scale says just eat as healthy as you can continue to walk and the wt. will come off. you are healing and have yet gotten a adjustment to your band so take a deep breath you are doing great.
-
call your doctor. take your temp. they will ask for that. but while you are at work try a little support for that large incision area. like a abd. binder or a back support turned around. it may help keep things still and not be traumatized. hope it is nothing.

Pre-surgery...I think i blew it... help?
terrydumont46 replied to JenryD's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
3 lbs could be water gain. it's important to be honest with the medical professionals we will be dealing with forever. but if we were successful dieters we wouldn't need wls. get back on track now. go back to a clear liquid diet and see if you can't lose the wt. you gained. so much what we have to do to be successful with the band is a lot of work. we cannot just say oh well. every hour of every day can be a new start. so start over. if you didn't gain any weight nothing has to be said. good luck. drink a lot of liquids. fill yourself up that way. -
Terrible shoulder pains
terrydumont46 replied to futureformerfattie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
laying on the side which I assume is the left side will help diffuse the gas too. warm liquids and heat to the shoulder is about all you can do. you are walking so you are doing what you can do. for abdominal gas is where the gasx works. you get that after surgery because your bowels were put to sleep as well as you were. it takes time for them to work. post op can be hell but you will get through it and than welcome to bandster hell!!!
