IF YOU COULD tell yourself this 1 thing BEFORE U HAD SURGERY what would THAT BE?
terrydumont46 replied to cindyvirden.com's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I think it would be to work on not having the same personality after surgery as I had before. the guilt etc. that feeling full is okay. doesn't mean I would gain weight just because I am satisfied. still working on this. and its been a year. -

terrydumont46 replied to cindyvirden.com's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
there are a few things I will do as I hit goal and continue to lose 1- go to a spa and get a full body massage, and defolate. I want to vacation a week at this spa. 2- Water park and go down all the slides 3- magic mountain in California and ride all the roller coasters 4- hit the California beach and body surf and play in the water. -
it was my 2 yo grand daughter who loved me as I am but really loved it that I told her one of the reasons I was going to lose wt. was so I could play with her easily. she was there for everything. checking my incisions for redness and the icepacks and heating pad etc. and it was just recently that she told me good job gma you don't look like you are having a baby anymore. and I love your cute clothes. it felt so good better than anyone elses remarks over the months. oh she is 4 and 1/2 now.

Ex-Friend Keeps Writing Negatively About Me on Different Blogs and Web Sites
terrydumont46 replied to Sharon C.'s topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
this thing about excepting fatness is a complete lie.. a fat person can never except and feel good about being fat. she isn't willing to change but except who she is wahoo for her. but you have decided to do something about it. that just is making her mad. it would be the same if your drinking buddy decided to stop drinking or druggie friend decided to stop doing drugs. years ago I did drugs and to stay clean I had to stop seeing those that still did drugs, one of them was my best friend. you are doing the healthy thing. you don't need a friend like her. if she slanders you in anyway she is breaking the law. but she is allowed her opinion and you are allowed to have yours. since she isn't the type to except yours than good riddance, she won't be helpful during your journey and you need support from true friends. good luck. -
Do I need a therapist?
terrydumont46 replied to ladykatie_'s topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I don't think we would be normal if we didn't have food envy. you are not in the green zone yet is why you are hungry after eating. talking with someone who has experience with wls would be beneficial,, I talk with my psychiatrist who than gives me some things to think about or do when I get to feeling anxious about the eating changes. also the PA at my surgeons office spends up to a hour discussing food, feelings, moods and body functions which is also helpful. you need to get your village together so you can be successful. -
I agree with your husband. put some ice on it if it is painful.

when I started this journey I said no to plastic surgery. ha now I want it on my arms tummy, and pubis, and thighs.

I get reflux if I happen to get on my stomach while asleep. but a month or 2 after surgery I was able to sleep over on my tummy. just keep trying and one night you will do it.

I recommend pain medications so you will get up and walk and move around. ibuprophen for the headaches etc. soups, hot tea, Jello, and popsicles heating pad to the shoulder or any gas pains ice packs to incisional pain if you get constipated miralax and rest the first couple of days. get in your recliner and watch some old movies but get up every hour and move around the house or your yard. don't be embarrsed to let of gas. it just shows your intestines are now awake from anesthsia. good luck and quick recovery to you

I don't experience spasms on a regular basis. in fact I can only remember one. it was a doozy about 4 mos after surgery. after all day of pain I finally drank hot tea with honey. I didn't drink per say just took little sips and I mean little. the spasm resolved when I took this approach. this is one problem I would bring up with your doctor. it maybe something entirely different than a spasm. and there might be something like medication to help. call your doctor.

first step is having the surgery. the skin removal comes a while from now. from what I understand the easiest way of getting insurances to pay for it is to have all the rashes and stuff documented. the one problem I have with that is I haven't had any since surgery. good luck on surgery and fast healing to you

No meat...? Oh the struggle...
terrydumont46 replied to ShaDiva's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
don't forget to add unflavored Protein powder to some of your vege. dishes. meat is a hard one even for some bandsters. if my meat isn't cooked raw I can just forget it. and no left overs of any kind. -
with 2 bad knees, that are just waiting until I lose some more wt. but will need replacing I shouldn't even be thinking about running. but I am. I want to run. where that idea came from, I have no idea. so I am going to try it out on the treadmill first. I want to ride a bike too! would never had even consider any of this if I was still 296. I would had been huffing and puffing just thinking about it a year ago. lol

it truly is so amazing to go into the closet and fit into everything. and most things are big. I swore I would wear what I already had through at least 4 seasons. so far I have had clothes to fit into from needing a 4x to now 1x or even large tops. but if summer doesn't finally rear its beautiful warm days I may have to buy something. I am sitting here in sweats to big but all I have. but I do have several pairs of shorts and sundresses just waiting in the closet. come on summer. I am loving nsv much more than the scale.

I have had like 8 fills and not one of them was painful. the port is where they put it and they know where they put their ports. the doctor may have you lay on your back and lift your legs and head and this makes the port really stick up. I have never had a miss or any finding of my port. it took about 2 min's because my doctor checks Fluid in the band before adding more. easy peasy. you won't have any problems don't be anxious about it

I had to wait almost 2 mos for Jacuzzi, but I think that was because of the heat. if I was you I would get those Water proof bandaids, they are called nexderm tegaderm. you can find them at your drug store. they are waterproof, seals out dirt and germs and stays on while in wter and the pad won't stick to your incisions. call your doctor for the okay.

I have painted, sawed down trees and cleaned up the mess, mowed 2.5 acres, washed cars, and chasing and killing tent catapillars we are having our 10 year infestation this year., so today I am fatigued can I expect energy everyday and what do you do when your painful areas of your body is saying rest? and what do you turn to when you are not energized?

you mentioned that all you hear is all the bad stuff that happens with the lap band. every wls has their own personal complications. one of the best things over all surgeries is that pretty soon you will start getting fills. with each and every fill you will feel a bit more restricted. you are forced to start eating smaller, longer and less. and than you reach a place with your band where it works to restrict your intake and allows you to feel satisfied longer without putting more in your mouth. no other surgery has this wonderful attribute. adjustable to each and every one of us so we can have optimal weight loss without becoming malnourished. you are just starting. but this is a learning time for you. if you don't learn how to use your band you will have many upsets. start now Protein first, vegetables second carbs last. eat less than a cup at a mealtime. a lot of bandsters can only eat 1/2 cup at mealtimes. eat slowly and chew thoroughly. and get used to the liquid phase of your diet. with every fill you will be asked to go on liquids. it is just part of getting to the green zone. good luck

I was still in the hospital when the nausea and than dry heaves started. I was given anti-nausea medication IV and now have a prescription for nausea. I have had to use it a couple of times this past year. one thing I never want to do is vomit while my band is restricting. the thought scares me. so call your doctor and let him know. I am sure he will prescribe something for you

My name is Terry, and i am a emotional eater. Frustration is the biggest mood that will get me in the kitchen to make home made French fries with chunky bleu cheese dressing and a couple of cokes. Fighting with someone usually the spouse, ok only the spouse i'm not a big fighter i actually hear the voice in my head saying if he doesn't care about me than i don't either. there goes the box of cookies, or anything else i am in the mood for. potato chips with onion dip. oh man. but after a year of being banded, I am Terry and I no longer am a emotional eater.

Just Starting The Lap Band Journey
terrydumont46 replied to Makinchanges4me's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had to go on a no carb diet. my doctor's requirement was to lose 5% of my body wt. every clinic and doctor has their own agenda. but I did like go walkings suggestion that you hit a seminar. even if it isn't the doctor you plan on going to. look online for one close to you. at these seminars you can ask lots of questions and you will be hearing from ppl that may have had a lapband. I had 2 ladies that had 10 years under their belt. I went to two. they are very iformative. and than look here under all the topics. there is something on everything you can read and look at videos etc. please my advice to you is to learn learn learn. come here everyday and learn the real stuff about day to day problems banders have. we are all so different. I also suggest a nutritionist. you need to know your diet plan, foods, amounts etc. your wlsurgeon should be able to give you a reference. good luck. I believe you are just started on your journey. -
yeah, don't even get on a scale right now. it is very normal to be feeling the way you are that's why we call it bandster hell. now whatever you like to eat you can put it in a food processor or a blender and blend it. at first you might be saying to yourself yuck but the taste is still the same. I was so craving some fresh vegetables. I cooked asparagus to overdone and put them in the food processor and actually enjoyed it. it was hot and tasted just like asparagus. for a long while you are going to be asked to eat oddly so it's time to get used to it. after every fill you will be told to do liquids and mushies afterwards. I wish you lots of luck. take the difficulty out of your thought process.

What barrier or obstacle have you had to overcome in order to get LAP-BAND?
terrydumont46 replied to Alex Brecher's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
every specialist I was ordered to see was finding something wrong with me. it took from oct 2011 to surgery date of 5/29/2013. I would cry and cry after every test and appointment. the stress, and emotional distress was all worth it now that I am celebrating my year post op anniversary.
