    REFLUX MEDICATION

I started taking Pepcid, prescription strength right after surgery. the pill is very small. I continued that until I began taking Prilosec twice a day when the reflux became a problem.

    What is this pain?

it likely is the gas that your doctor used to blow up the field of surgery so he can see things. it takes time for this gas to dissipate. gasx won't help this gas. use a heating pad and pain medications to help relieve the pain. your doctor is the best person to talk to about this. call the office. even though you have no fill in your band you are swollen from surgery. your band and port have been stitched to muscle and tissue. this also causes pain and swelling. give yourself some time to heal. if you are nauseous there is medication that can help. ask your doctor for it. you don't want to be throwing up. warm tea or drinks can really help you feel better.

    Showering

shower all you want to. just no baths or Jacuzzi's. that last one was the hardest for me. i was used to my hot tub every night and my doctor made me wait 6 weeks before i could use it again.

    Possible slip?

i am sorry, i can't offer advice you haven't filled out your profile yet . llike when was surgery? usually the most common complaint when a band has slipped is reflux. any pain associated with a slipped band comes from spasms in your esophagus when the food starts to back up. if you just had surgery it could be gas from surgery. a heating pad will help. but the best thing you are doing is calling your doctor. he will answer all your questions and order whatever tests need to be order. until than take some Tylenol and use the heating pad.
  6. i know what it feels like to be having so many problems. starting over after 13 months like i have to sucks. but as i look back i realize the mistakes i was doing. i knew i had a problem but refuse to except them. at least you are excepting of your limitations. go to Clear Liquids for a few days and than liquids. do not lay down after eating. even after drinking Water. do not drink with your meals. keep your meals to at the most half of a cup of food even liquids. eat several times a day. this isn't how you will be doing it when you are all healed up and things are working properly but for now you are just trying to keep food down without pbing or sliming. if your problems continue please get a barium swallow. perhaps your band was primed during surgery and no one remembers, and the answer to your question is yes there are a few ppl that cannot tolerate the band at all, but that is a small small number of ppl especially in the stage you are in. slow down, sit up, eat small. chew well and wait between swallows to make sure stuff is going through your pouch and band and into your stomach. esophagus spasms do cause pain, a lot of pain that is why it is necessary to sit up after intake of anything. sometimes as much as 2 hours afterwards. food in the esophagus is not good. i wish you well and good luck

    Vitamins before surgery

I agree with the poster that said to get a blood panel first. my doctor ordered a panel that took 15 tubes of blood. and I found out I was a bit high on Iron so didn't need to supplement on it. vit. b12 instead of everyday I only need to take it every other day due to my level. I know gastric bypass supplements are important more so for you than someone like me that is banded but it would be good to have a level done now so future levels can be compared to. I love adult gummies. costco has a nice one and with a good price tag. they also have a chewable calcium and chewable vit. b12. and vit b50. I also get my Biotin from them. if you are worried about your hair this is one vit. I would start. it did help me. wish I had taken prior to surgery. good luck on your surgery and wishing you a quick recovery and a uneventful one.

    Fiber supplement question

this is a question for your surgeons office. the nurse could answer this one. all doctor's use different things. my first guess would be Metamucil. but since I have the opposite problem I am not one to give advice on this. call your doctor but if I remember right I had loose stools right after surgery too. you are taking in a lot of liquids right now.

    Hard Lump Near AccessPort

my doctor snuggled my port into a fat bed or tissue. this has created a small lump about 2 inches in size and I can feel my port right in the middle of it. especially now that I have lost over 75 lbs.

    Seven Years Later..

I haven't had a band slip but from what I learned on here most doctors unfill your band and you go on a liquid diet and see if the band doesn't slip back in place. also if you need surgery it is very minor and just a bit invasive. I think we are all or should be concerned about slips. I would love to hear more from the veterans.
  13. for 3 days I only drank water and crystal lite. I had no appetite and like go 2 said really swollen. just make sure you are drinking at least 32 oz while you are going through this stage. increase to 64 oz a day. and these are just minimums. keep a glass that you know how much it holds and keep it by your side all the time. I used a sports water thingy. it held 32 oz. I also made 2 quarts of crystal lite every morning. so I knew I was hydrated. I wish you a quick recovery.

I need a real lapband friend

once you are adjusted properly you won't be able to eat a meal at mcdonalds or anywhere. when I have to eat out I try to eat healthy choosing grilled chicken or chili but if I eat more than half of a sandwich I suffer. you will get there too. please try and cook your meals at home where you have control. and when you are out always carry a protein bar or string cheese or the makings of a protein shake. the other day I was out and I wanted ice for my vanilla protein and orange crystal lite so I went into mc donalds and used their ice machine. I was a bit embarrassed but a girl has to do what she can. no one paid any attention to me. the food when you have proper fill doesn't appeal as much. I hate getting stuck or pb in public. please take control, you are the one that decides what you are eating and not.

I need a real lapband friend

I believe the first step in getting back on this journey is to see your doctor and nutritionist. having a fill will remind you everytime you put something in your mouth that there is a tool inside you helping. if you can eat a full meal like you describe you need a fill. and start walking. cost nothing and you can do it anywhere. just move. I can't exercise like most of the folks here due to all of my injuries but I did put a pedometer on just to make sure I am moving throughout the day. I log in 10,000 to 12,000 movements a day. don't dream ahead until you have some band restriction and are moving everyday. take everyday one day at a time. when you go to sleep and think about your day don't have any regret's. I wish you lots of will power
  16. I drink water when I am stuck. it either washes the little devil out or it pushes it through. I don't know if this is a acceptable method but I am over 2 hours away from my doctor and none of the emergency rooms between my house and my doctor will do anything with a band.

Replay started new again and succeeding!

this is so great!! welcome back to the party. and what a great job you are doing.
  18. I like you was on all the drugs you mentioned plus some more. although I am a year out and 75 lbs lighter I am still on most of them but the insulin. I am insulin free. this was one of my first goals. I was on 200 units of lantus a day and over 30 of Humalog. now my body works correctly and I can eat carbs without raising my blood sugar. after surgery it took me some time to get used to the pills but I crushed some, ate some and had some big ones changed to smaller ones. I worked this out with my pharmacist and doctor. good luck on your surgery.

Fill has left me swollen and sore.......

I usually don't comment about doctor's or tell someone that their doctor is wrong but here I go. you had your surgery nearly a year ago and by my poor mathematic skills I figure you only have 3 cc's in a 10 cc band, and you are not losing wt. it's time to have a sit down with your doctor. it's okay to be assertive. ask him for a more aggressive fill. you want to be in the green zone and you know you are not there. you should be. that is your argument. I wish you luck.

    Do I keep drinking?

you are swollen. you can't go without fluids. call your doctor and have a slight unfill. this can be dangerous. call your er or go to the one your doctor has priviledges at . most er's don't know anything about bands. hope you feel better soon

    Stomach Still Swollen

okay a few questions. what do you mean hard and tender. is it your stomach or abdomen where your intestines are? I am going with the latter. are you passing gas, and or have had a regular bowel movement? if you are constipated this is something that should be discussed with your doctor. every doctor has a rememdy. most of us use miralax. hope you feel better soon

    Am I making a mistake?

my doctor encouraged me to come up with one reason I wanted surgery. when I told him it wasn't what I wanted but needed to do it to live he said that I was ready for surgery. pre op's are hard. and while you are getting your band adjusted to your specifications it's going to be hard. but with each and every fill you will learn how to deal with head hunger. and with every inch lost its a reward. noticed I said inch. so take your measurements. the inches gives so much pleasure as you lose them. much more than wt. I think. and please remember to not put yourself through more than your doctor is asking of you. we are so hard on yourselves, we have learned this behavior as we have tried to win this battle of wt. do the best you can. that's all you can ask of yourself. wishing you the best
  25. I was always so successful in dieting. all I needed to do is do what I had done before. until diabetes became my life and I couldn't lose for the life of me. and than my heart stopped for 11 1/2 seconds. when my husband and daughter pleaded with me to live and I looked into my granddaughters precious face I knew I wanted to live. I was going to seminars almost as soon as I left the hospital because of my heart. my primary insurance wouldn't pay but I was eligible for medicare. it takes awhile for that to get started etc. a slew of medical emergencies later I finally had surgery. the best thing I ever did. and the hardest thing I have done.
