Is anyone having success and enjoying their banded life?
terrydumont46 replied to Kitt3000's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I have had a few complications but after strict diet I am starting a new. I made new game plans and things are going very well. one of the things I have found on this site since all the surgeries got combined is that all surgeries have faults and complications. it actually has made me feel more confident in my decisions concerning the band. since the minor band slip I have lost the 10 lbs I gained from having the band unfilled, had knee surgery and am feeling pretty good and strong. do it again, you bet. love my band -
Did anyone have to lose a LOT of weight to qualify for surgery?
terrydumont46 replied to MaureenVA's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had to lose 5%of my body wt, just for the fatty liver problem. and that was so hard. I can't imagine going through what you have to. the way I did it was going on a carb free diet. I also watched calories.kept it at 1000 cal a day. I wish you lots of luck. -
my doctor did address carbs. it was 30 total carbs a meal and 12 carbs for snacks.

congrat's. and best wishes towards starting your program again.

2 weeks post-op questions
terrydumont46 replied to luvmy4jz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
call your doctor office and verify the diet orders. you always need to follow your doctors instruction but 4 weeks of liquids does seem extreme. -
Would you have WLS again? What kind?
terrydumont46 replied to Julie norton's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
even though I have had some complications I would do it all over again. weighing less is just magical. -
Kidney Stones and Surgery
terrydumont46 replied to Gendy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
the only thing I know for sure about kidney stones is that it is painful. the 2 ppl close to me that got them were dehydrated. I think they can test the stones to see what they are made of so you will know why you got them. if its because of hydration after you have wls you will need to really work on this. call your wls to see if this will be a delay. I really don't think so but I didn't go to medical school. lol -
Ex Lax, Miralax, Beneful, Metamucil, Senesomething, Activia, or what?
terrydumont46 replied to Yasman's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
my doctor recommended miralax twice a day. but when it turned to diarrhea and having to go everytime I pee'd I went to once a day and than constipation hit again. so I use ducolax 2 tabs at night and been regular since doing that. and prune juice does do the job. -
good luck, report back.

I would say that you are doing things to your body that you haven't done for years. ache and pain should be expected. but as jack says seeing your doctor is the best. at least to make sure nothing like ruptured disc's etc. hope it feels better soon.

No energy, no strength, and quickly exhaused...help!
terrydumont46 replied to tpierce's topic in Fitness & Exercise
time to call your pcp or wls. and get a blood panel done. another thought is you are not getting enough of the right foods. perhaps a check in with your nutritionist to see if you are eating correctly. but for sure see your doctor. -
It's now been 2mos. since it was discovered I had a small slip and elongated esophagus caused by reflux. today I saw my surgeon and after a barium swallow it showed that although the slip has improved it didn't resolve completely, but my surgeon felt that it shouldn't be a problem to start all over again. my esophagus was without the 20plus spasms and looks good. I got a fill, horray. I did gain about 10 lbs during those 2 months of not being filled. I have changed a few bad behaviors during this time that I think will be very helpful to me as well as others that are just starting out. the biggest one is eating at the dining room table instead of in my recliner watching the news. I feel fullness better and sooner. I have more control of my bites by having complete control of my fork and knife. thanks to all for all the support. it helps to have this site to go through the good times with as well as the hard times. thanks

Questions for surgeon
terrydumont46 replied to ambieambs's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
there were a lot of things I wanted to know. Stay in hospital? Can I reach him when needed and if not who does he have covering him. if you are doing the lap band who does the fills? how fast does he do the fills? how often does he check for band placement? I don't know the questions if you are having the bypass. I would also like to know about pain management. with some wls the first year is covered under one price. find out what the aftercare is. I also have read that if reflux is a problem that the sleeve wouldn't be your first option. good luck -
questions about how you feel, what you expect, and the changes you know you will be going through. they just want to be sure of no eating disorders like bulimia. they want to be sure you are aware of the work you are still going to have to do. also, do you know what the band is and the stages you will be going through. they just want to make sure you have realistic expectations. don't fret. even if the psychiatrist has some concerns it is best to address them, it shouldn't prolong your exceptance but it might be the difference of being successful or not. good luck

actually a tribe in Africa that eats mainly nuts and seeds have a 2lb poop everyday. and they have low incidence of disease. another doctor said a healthy poop is one where all you need to do is wipe once. and floating poop is saying you are not getting enough fiber. since the band and because of all the pain medications I have to take pooping has also became a daily thought and action. my surgeon says miralax in the morning and at night until regular and than just once a day. but I found that to be to much. pooping all day long, yawn. so I use ducolax (sp) every night. and have a regular poop in the morning. works for me.

update on slipped band
terrydumont46 replied to terrydumont46's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@Just watch me. your post made me crack up. I used to go to the movies with my husband, not for the movie so it didn't matter what was on the screen but for the popcorn. I used to get so excited. now with pay per view and red box I don't go to the movies and I don't have the cravings for popcorn I used to have. it's so odd what taste good and what doesn't. -
Surgery possibly cancelled
terrydumont46 replied to rdbest86's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
there was only one surgeon in the practice? get a recommendation from your pcp. you won't have to start over. all your paperwork will be transferred. don't fret, this maybe the best for you because it would be even more distressing if you had the surgery with this doctor and than he disappeared on you. try and find a clinic. go online. go to seminars. and have your records transferred to your pcp. something is fishy and you don't want the office to close on you. good luck -
I am a real popcorn nut. it is one snack I can eat without problem. but I used a air popper and some real melted butter on it. and than all of sudden it isn't in my thoughts anymore. I don't think I have had it for months and months. I have more problems with nuts than I did with popcorn

because you are having heartburn and I suspect reflux please go in for a barium swallow. just to make sure all is okay.

Changing my mind......
terrydumont46 replied to ren0318's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
you have stated it perfectly. I think you know what you really want to do. call you doctor and see what you need to do. I went in for gastric bypass and came out with the band. there wasn't any problem with the insurance company. I think all doctors give themselves the right to change the surgery if they need to. so I don't think there will be a problem there. good luck and wish you the best. -
Surgery in 5 days...
terrydumont46 replied to crissyb14's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
as for before surgery make sure you have the liquids you are going to be using. protein powder, crystal lite, water etc. also have ready sugar free jello and popsicles. have a heating pad, ice packs, if your doctor will do it have your pain medication filled and ready for you. at the hospital just wear a sundress and sandels. move as much as you can. take walks down the hallway. drink and keep hydrated. when you are home heating pad to any areas of gas pains, ice packs to incisional pain. drink, walk and rest. give yourself ample time recover from surgery. be sure you have your doctors tele # close at hand. good luck and wishing you well -
sometimes it's easier to get a start on things by going to seminars in your area. both seminars I attended took insurance info and did the calling for me. you will also get a quick review of all wls. you will be able to ask questions etc. I found my seminars by internet. I wish you luck on this new chapter in your life.

do you mean shoulder pain? I wouldn't think you would be having gas pain still. please call your doctor and let them know of the shoulder pain. -

terrydumont46 replied to Darlyn Dwan Rottkamp DeVoe's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was 56 when I had surgery. I now play with my grandchildren without being out of breath. I was off insulin about 4 months after surgery. and can eat carbs now without my blood sugar going up. I still have to take Glucophage but only 2 a day. its the next med I will come off of. I wish you luck on your journey. you will love life again.
