The Band VS Gastric Bypass...What made your decision??
paula replied to a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Since I had a history of stomach ulcers, I wanted something reversible. Plus, I had 3 small kids at home and the problems for band vs bypass ratio was lower... or so I thought. Great post Sue! I agree with her, and want to add that even though we hear that the surgery complication rate is low - its the problems that occur AFTER banding that could cause major trouble for us. -
Hey Barkley... you still have a gall-bladder?? Id call the MD and get some type of evaluation. Keep us informed, k?

Spivak and Spiegal - Tell me more
paula replied to cpbaby's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I used Spiegel back in 04. Yes, it is a cattle call for him. But he is an excellent surgeon. I *think* his site says that he's performed more band surgeries then any other lap-band surgeon in the US. Experienced - Yes Personality - No I met him for my very first office visit/consultation then didnt lay eyes in him again until the morning AFTER my surgery. That was a little different for me to settle on :/ considering the money he makes off of us. -
Hey Diane - SO glad to hear fom you! ok, just so I get this straight - you are home now? awe, and the link for your scars... i cant get the picture to show up! Darn. Thanks for checking in - God bless you...

God bless this country and I pray that we never experience anything like this again. question: what were you guys doing when you heard this tragic news? I was getting out of my car at Walmart (8am) going shopping for Anne's 1st birthday supplies (her Bday is the 14th). There was a Walmart employee in the car next to me that was sitting with her door open (in shock) listening to the radio... the announcements made on the radio were talking about "plane crash.. could be a terror attack" My immediate thought was this was in another country... so I continued on my shopping trip. Hour later Mike called from work (He's a mailman and works in a Gov. building-they were under a high risk alert for terrorist attack) and asked if I knew what was going on. I didnt. I turned on the news. What shock.. it was when the towers fell. To view this was one of the most memorable things Ill ever endure. I cried and cried and cried. It was like watching footage from another country. The smoke, people running, chaos... never ever will I ever forget this day. I remember sleeping very little for 2 days glued to CNN waiting...hoping... watching for someone to survive the tower rumble. 5 years later and I remember this day as clear as my wedding day and the birth of my 3 children.

Hey Cherg, I agree with whoever is telling you that some saline needs to come out. The band wasnt designed for us to lose weight by pbing everything we eat. Just a little bitty tiny amount may make a BIG difference. You certainly dont want to get malnutricianed!. Good luck.

Im so sorry this is happening to you. And you are right, we're all in this together. I agree with Betty - there's alot of fast food places that have a great selection of low calorie foods. Ive been enjoying Burger King's whopper jr with no bun or mayo (just another idea). Things like this offer protien and veg's... and its healthy. Try getting back to basics... drinking 60 oz's of Water a day, eating protien first, veg's lastly carbs. You can do this. Youve done it before and you CAN do it again! good luck -
woohoo - Diane! You are looking great. Keep up the awesome work!

Sam, you are so tiny! Goodness, Girl - I cant imagine you 'un swelling' any more!

love it! Its been a long time since Ive read it. Thanks for the laugh!!!

I *think* the dr wanted me to wait 48 hours before driving... it mostly pertains to the possible reaction to anesthesia. And I was groggy for approx 3 days afterwards... so I would find car pooling help for at least 3 days post op. You may need a week, just depends! Best bet would be to ask your surgeon.

I agree with this line. So many people lack compassion... understanding... kindness for anothers disability. This class is labeled Physical Education... which means to be educated about physical activity. It should NOT be a class where peer/teacher pressure causes the one that needs it the MOST - to dread the most. Easily these situations could be turned into a positive experience. When peers encourage and cheer for those lacking, it gives everyone a much better attitude... all around. And teaches team effort! Darcy, remind me to hug you next time I see you - Good for you for getting that teacher on the right track!

sorry, thats why I re-posted it. wasnt sure if y'all knew what i was talking about... but you did! LOL - thats right! Thats EXACTLY what I was thinking.

Good for you - on the walking! Thats a big thing for new bandsters to do. Have you talked to your surgeons office about the nausea? Im scared to think that the lack of fluids could cause other issues (dehydration). Be careful! Congrat's on the banding!

Bad news on one of my preop testing for lap
paula replied to debi717's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Awe Deb, see? if i wouldnt have been for the pre-lap-band testing, this may not have been caught and corrected so early. Hang in there! You'll get another band date in no time!
