IMHO The hardest part of being banded.
nymoosic replied to ReadySteadyGo's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I miss drinking with meals, too, but am wondering if you experience what I do when I drink with meals - pain. It's unbelievably uncomfortable. It feels like the food down there just swells right up and then I'm done eating no matter what. Is anyone else like this? -
6 MONTHS! Progress Poll
nymoosic replied to christasha's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have very exciting news! I am in ONEderland!!!! I cannot believe that I have lost 50 pounds since the surgery. There is no way I am going back. I feel GREAT! Blood sugar is normal....I can walk around the block without the hip pain I used to feel....I can cross my legs....People compliment me every day. This is an amazing tool. Sometimes I HATE my band...but what it has done for me is something I could never do for myself. God knows I tried so many times. I feel like I'm just starting to live!!! -
Does the lap band change your bowels?
nymoosic replied to Startingover!'s topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I saw no difference until my third fill when I really couldn't eat much at all. Since I was trying to get in my protein I found that affected how often I had a bowel movement. Before it was once a day and now it's every two or three days. -
I just had my third fill (7ccs in a 10cc band). I can barely get in 1/4 cup of food (Protein first, of course) but I do stay full for hours...Unfortunately, I often don't know when my last bite should be and go one or two bites past where I'm comfortable. I realize it too late and slime quite a bit. This is a huge difference from my last fill. I could eat MUCH more before. I now love the fact that I can barely eat. It has finally forced me to STOP eating! I've lost six pounds this week. Am I eating too little? I'd venture to guess I'm barely getting in 800 calories, but if I can get in more food at one time I'm likely to lose control again. Do I get a slight unfill? Please help.

My fill has loosened a tad and I'm able to eat slightly more. I can also get down Protein without sliming if I chew, chew, chew. liquids have never been a problem for me and certainly don't hurt. I've started to eat very slowly and as soon as I feel that 'golf-ball' feeling I stop. That's my full point. I've realized this after a week of taking one or two bites too much. My guess is you are not losing because your body is starving. You're not getting enough nutrition and your body is hanging on to every available calorie it has. I don't think the exercise/activity is an issue right now. I believe if you were able to eat more you'd probably start losing weight again. Call your doctor/nutritionist and speak with them. I don't think this is how they intended for you to live with the band. You should be able to eat more. (Don't forget if you're not getting in your protein you could start losing some hair!) Please let me know how things go. Good luck.

Okay, sorry to be gross... but, I had my third fill yesterday and went out this afternoon for happy hour with the girls. I had a large glass of cranberry juice - ice cold. After a while I suddenly had this disgusting mouthful of semi-hard mucous come up from the top of my esophagus. Is this normal? I've slimed and foamed on stuff before but the consistency of this stuff was gross. Once again, I'm sorry if this grosses anyone out, but I'm not sure if this is normal.

:mellow:That was an interesting reply. I think it was from my throat, not even the pouch or stomach. No, I hadn't eaten anything before this for three hours. (I did have soup at that meal, though.) Maybe it was from my pouch? This is all so gross!

Did you have weight problems as a child?
nymoosic replied to isabelle290's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was overweight as a child. My doctor put me on my first diet at age eight. I blame my father for not allowing me to have dessert (of course he always had 'his' dessert) so I began sneaking food. I also blame my mother for not kicking my butt and getting me outside to play. That is how my saga began. -
I've been a few times. I've gotten over the 'wasting money' thing, but I still struggle to slow down when I'm there. I slow down at home, but when I go to a buffet it's like the old habits creep in before I even know what I'm doing. I've had to wait quite awhile for things to go down before I can continue to eat.

Dr. Singh did my surgery. (LOVE him!) And the pain eventually went away. I feel great now. It just took awhile to heal.

Is anyone else tired of hearing people say, "Why am I not losing any weight? I'm only eating 600 calories a day!" Come on people! Listen to your nutritionists. You need to eat to fuel your bodies. If you don't it will start holding on to every pound it's got! It will lower your metabolism and mess up everything. You think it's going to get you to your goal faster, but it's not! :blink:Alright....I'm done blowing off steam.
-
Wow! 700 calories a day??? You will stop losing weight soon doing that. You need to eat more calories. You are starving yourself and slowing down your metabolism. EAT!

My port didn't stick out (it actually made my skin look sunken) but I had lots of port pain for months. I couldn't sleep on my side or belly for two months. I couldn't bend over easily either. My doctor said it was totally normal. But, if I were you I would still call to double check.
-
First let me tell you when I had my gall bladder removed three years ago they used dissolvable stitches and tape. OMG, it hurt like hell! Every time I moved my skin pulled. I think it was worse than the actual incision. For lapband they used surgical glue. What a difference! No pulling and very little pain.

PBing and Sliming and Vomiting, Oh My.....
nymoosic replied to Allison's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have struggled with this. I have PB'd and slimed quite a few times. I have learned that if I slow down this will not happen. In order to prevent this most disgusting of reactions, you just learn how to eat differently. You can have this operation without experiencing these things. You just need to take small bites and chew, chew, chew. -
Well, three months after my surgery I've found out the reason why I didn't receive a present from our "Sunshine Club" at work. The people who head it up say I had elective surgery and that doesn't warrant a present. One of them is a dear friend (or so I thought) of mine and didn't stick up for me. Honestly, I couldn't care less about the $25 present. It's the principle of the thing. I know I shouldn't be bothered by this, but I've spent the last half hour in tears. How do you let people know who haven't walked in your shoes what it is like to have this surgery? How can you possibly let them know what it's like to carry around 150 extra pounds every day and be pre-diabetic and borderline hypertensive? I had surgery to save my life and my quality of living. Normally I don't give a crap about what people think of me, but this is bothering me terribly. Please make me feel better. Hubby is having a hard time soothing me.

You guys are great. You've put a smile back on my face. Thank you! -
I agree with everything you wrote until the last sentence. I DO have self-control....to an extent. This helps me even more. But, yes, I do agree we need to demand fills. Had I not been persistent, I would not have had my second fill this morning. Instead it would have been their scheduled appt. three weeks from now! Don't wait, people!!! Call and keep asking to get in.
-
Alright, I need to vent. I had my first fill three weeks ago and it was AWESOME! Perfect restriction for two weeks. Now I'm back to square one. They scheduled my second fill for seven weeks after the first. I called yesteday to see if I could get in any earlier and there are no openings. Do I call and harass these people until I get in? I could easily screw up everything in the next four weeks. What do I do? I'm so frustrated.
-
I just called them again and got in next Tuesday! Thank God!!!
-
Thank you all for your support - especially shortgal! That's exactly what I needed to hear.
-
They only schedule appts. for 4-6 weeks after the last fill. Yes, they did schedule the appt. at the end of my first fill appt.. I didn't realize it was that far away when they scheduled it. I am on the cancellation list, but I need it NOW!
