Moved to Las Vegas/Henderson area
You'reGonnaHearMeRoar posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Hello everyone, Just relocated to Henderson Nv, in hopes of having the gastric sleeve. My old bariatric doc insisted I have the band instead of the sleeve, but that's not something I want to do. If anyone can recommend a good bariatric doc in my area I would truly appreciate it. Also if anyone knows of any bariatric support groups or walking groups/buddies in the Henderson area, Please let me know. I should have all of my(husbands new job) new insurance info sometime this week. Thank you;) -
Approved for Band not Sleeve;(Need some advice.

I'm seduled Sept 23rd for lapband surgery. My doctor is believes it's the best surgery for me, being I have Ms and the meds I take. However, I had my heart on getting the sleeve. I'm freaking out now because I keep reading all the horror stories and problems associated with the lapband. I cannot seem to find to any positive post regarding the lapband. I'm seriously thinking of canceling my surgery. I'm getting so frustrated and don't know what to do at this point. Would any of you conside lapband, if the sleeve was not an option? Or would you call off surgery? -

Thanks everyone for all the help. I think I'm going to go with my gut and cancel my surgery. I'm going to look for another surgeon who will do the sleeve. After all my Neurologist cleared me for sleeve. This is so frustrating, but I really don't want to do something that I may regret later. -
Still waiting to hear from insurance company. Had another check up today and I'm down another 9lbs;) So I started at 279 and weighed in at 245. I it's 34 total. I lost more because I've been doing mainly liquids because I thought I'd hear back from insurance company already. Not craving to much because I'm also having soups;) Doctor said he still might have to change to band because of all my Ms meds. I hope not because I don't want the band. I've heard one to many horror stories. I also know what goes in must come out. lol Having multiple surgeries does not sound appealing. Once I get the ok, I will have to stop all my meds for at least 2 weeks before surgery. I want to stop now because office already gave me a surgery date for Aug, but Doc said not to until I hear back from insurance. I'm getting a little Frustrated and a little nervous. I keep having to remind myself that I'm almost there. Still have my Figures crossed that everything goes well;)

Still waiting; (

No. I'm still waiting to have the sleeve because my new insurance said I had to do a six month medical supervised diet. I've recently completed everything they required. My old ins a few years back only covered a portion of the cost so I switched ins because I couldn't afford it. Since Jan, I've had two ms relapses and had to go on steroids. My doctor now is saying that I might do better with the lapband, instead of sleeve. My papers have already been submitted to ins comp however he said he may have to amend it. He's going to talk with my neurologist regarding my ms meds(Aubagio) and get back to me on mon. I'm still hoping to have sleeve. My neurologist already wrote a clearance letter. -

I finally have a surgery date. It's August 25th, however I'm trying not to get my hopes up to much, because I still need approval from my insurance company. I've finished all of my testing and just need my pre-op blood work done. My surgeons office also said after approval if any other dates are canceled they may move my date closer. I'm trying not to get to excited but I have been rocking a huge smile all day;) Fingers crossed×

I was approved for surgery(by office) in January, only to find out that my insurance required a six month supervised weight loss program. The past six months have just practically flown by. I've finally completed my doctors program! I'm just waiting to here back from my insurance. Hopefully I will be getting a surgery date soon;) I had to go on steroids twice(ms flare up) during the past six months, and still managed to lose 15 additional lbs! I can't wait to finish this journey;)

Almost finished list;)

Wow! 70lbs! Thats awesome! I definitely have had similar thoughts. My family and friends have noticed my weight loss, but when I look in the mirror I don't notice it as much. Hopefully that will change after surgery. What insurance do you have? Mines bcbs of Ga(live in nv)? -
Almost finished list;)

Thanks so much! I'm really excited;) And yes, I did the six month supervised diet at my surgeons office. Basically it was just meeting once a month with his nutritionist. I had to weigh in and review what I was eating. I also had to get a letter from my PM Doctor clearing me for surgery. -

Sorry it's been awhile since my last update. I ended up having to start a six month doctor supervised weight loss program. The one I did two years ago didn't count. My surgeons office says I technically started my diet with their office in Jan, so I'm looking at July or August for surgery. This whole process has been a headache but I haven't lost faith. I ended going back to my PM and getting percripton Phenter something. It's been ok so far. It gives me insomnia; ( More time to exercise I guess;) Tomorrow I have another appointment with my nutritionist. I think I only have two visits left. I've thought about giving up so many times, but I haven't yet. I keep telling myself "I can do this." My kids are my motivation. I can almost see the finish line. Hopefully I will cross it very soon;) Hopefully everyone is doing well. If not keep your heads up. It does get better;)

I was approved for vsg surgery on the feb 25th. Then last week I was told that my surgery would be on the 29th because they missed the paper day deadline. Just listened to my voice mail and was told my insurance company wants a letter from my PC doctor that I'm healthy enough to have surgery. Then office assistant said that starting this year BCBS of GA is requiring a six month medically supervised diet. I'm so hurt! I've already started my pre op diet. I already got approved! Wtf! This sucks! I'm off to have a glass/bottle of wine.

My husband forgot that today was my birthday; ( 36woot! I think this year I'm going to trade him in for a new one, or accidentally forget his birthday(#sorrynotsorry).Lol. I'll be ok, after all its not the first special day that he's forgotten, and it probably wont be his last. It's actually kinda a good thing he forgot it, or I'd be stuffing my face with cake right now. Sometimes I wish he was more supportive. I often find myself questioning our marriage. I used to think that the reason he doesn't take me out or spend time with me was because I'm fat. Now i just think its because he has to much on his mind and that he's just a jerk! I hate feeling like I'm disposable. Well enough about that. I'm still waiting to find out if my surgery has been approved. My doctor said it shouldn't take much longer. In the meantime he started me on a 6 week preop diet. I started yesterday. So far so good. I finally got all my testing and nutrition classes done. This year I want to focus all my attention on my kids and myself. I only want to be around people who care for me and protect me. Hopefully by next year my husband will be sold and that I will have a better birthday story to tell Sorry for rambling and all the auto corrects(typing on phone).

What are your thoughts on smoking before and after Gastric bypass surgery
You'reGonnaHearMeRoar replied to leag78's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started taking Wellbutrin last year and haven't had a cigarette since. It's normally prescribed for depression but my doc said she also prescribes it for weight loss and help quitting smoking. Haven't lost any weight , but I was able to quit smoking. I was smoking pack a day for 10+ years. The only downside of taking it that I've had some hair loss. -
I met with my doctor today and everything went well. I have my UGI test on the 19th, and I have my psych & nutritional evals scheduled for the 23rd. I'll find out sometime this week if I have to do a six month supervised diet; ( I'm hoping that I don't have to, but they're going to double check. Also, my doctor told me if I have a to go back steroids(ms) anytime from now and the surgery date, that he may recommend the band instead of the sleeve. It was kinda confusing, but from what I understood, is that the steroids could interfere with the healing process. I haven't had a flare up for months, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Has anyone delt with BCBS Georgia before? How much was your total cost? I went on their website and it quoted me around $3500. That's allot different from what they told my husband over the phone. I thought most/all of it was going to be covered. Does this seem like an accurate total? I have an appointment on the 13th and I'm hoping it's not $3500.
