Banded on Sept. 4, 2013
deb059 replied to amydlewis06's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i was banded on the 3rd did really well week i was at home..had some problems adjusting this week re; desk job, trying to take fluids to quickly and yesterday and today i had really sharp stabbing like pain in the left shoulder..could be the residual anesthesia gas hitting my phrenic nerve only advil helps that..not walking not gas x strips. However dietitian encouraged me to go back to clear liquids rest of today only and pain has not come back..yippee! the itching i have is from incisions healing and tightening as they do..my port is on the right they tell me as my steristrips insist on staying on! I was told by a dietitian a great cookbook is Bandwagon Cookery i checked it out on amazon and it looks pretty good with good reviews. I hope all of you get to feeling better..oh, and yes, i have bm's..just smaller. deb -

PRE OP LIQUID DIET
deb059 replied to princesstuiaki's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
ps i made it because i looked forward to those bars 2x ;s a day..and i even hate regular shakes. re: vanilla..i did not like it but starbucks and walmart have sugar free syrups you can add to them..i was told you can add crystal light to them. for me on post op day 7 i stick to the chocolate and mix it with a ninja or magic bullet (otherwise they are unbearable) and freeze them for 1 hr then let them thaw in fridge..they taste better to me deb -
PRE OP LIQUID DIET
deb059 replied to princesstuiaki's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
yes it shrinks your liver by up to 25% IF you follow the diet and go into ketosis (not ketoacidosis, ketosis, like in atkins diet). if you need to cheat try 1-2 times a day IF you are drinking at least 4 of the bariatric shakes a day( my dr gave me bariatric advantage) of the atkins chocolate peanut butter MEAL REPLACEMENT BARS. I know you can't change the past and i am not trying to drag you down, but by shrinking the liver it makes it easier and safer for the surgeon to place your band. and they will know by the lack of weight loss preop and will know when they do surgery. turns out people who have excess fat have fatty livers. my surgeon told me if i could not stick to the diet to call and they would give me suggestions..and that this was critically important. call your surgeon, their nurse or the dietitian they sent you to. good luck deb -
i was told campbells soup in hand for later but only bouillon soup before deb

i understand how you feel.i chose to tell almost everyone so they could become my accountability partners..but some have chosen to bash me on "if you only had the willpower " line..but that is okay i know they love and care about me..and I have chosen the lapband route because i believe it will work for me..i am 4 days out, hate the shakes but love the preliminary results...but my surgeon said the words that helped me most. He said a lot of people will consider you took the easy route ..but there is nothing easy about this...you have to work to log what you eat, you have to still exercise, you have to do lots of things people who are not banded don't have to do. However, YOU made the decision to change your life and YOU are going to have a better life because your health and your life will be better. CONGRATS on having the courage to change your life..not everyone can! warmly deb

you need to call your surgeon I am a nurse and it is probably nothing but they know you and know what is going on and it is best on this to get your answer from your surgeon or the nurse in his office. some things they should have taught you (and probably did) are looking for redness, swelling(you will have some just post op if you are like me) and fever (you mentioned this already) but a constantly draining wound is something you need to discuss with them. if they don't hear from you, they think everything is okay! congrats on your procedure!

Hi, i got banded 1 day before you. Like you i was excited, then nervous, then wondering if I did the right thing. Like the other person who posted, i can tell you i decided to be excited again. I have a great surgeon and support system. I got calls and have access to email and phone support and have 12 months of f/u including dietitian and exercise physiologist appointments. Have you tried calling your surgeon..his staff should have called you or the hospital. I also had online courses and a wonderful support group i have started going to. find a good support group. it does not help me that some people try to tell me, after the surgery, why i should have been able to do it from willpower and self discipline alone. I know that they are only concerned about me..but i have to tune them out. like the other person who posted, i hate shakes with a passion! but they will help me achieve my goal and i intend to succeed in this..because i am tired of having my life be on hold. I probably wont be able to check this site frequently at first but will check this weekend in case you respond again. Hang in there..remember YOU are the variable that has changed.you made a decision that will positvely impact everything about your life! deb
