  1. Planned for October 5th 2013 !
  2. I have decided on rny but now due to funding, it would be easier to do vsg. I am just not convinced that I would lose much with a vsg. Am I wrong? I am currently 245 and would feel successful at 160 and a size 12 but I've never been lower than that as an adult and would love to get to about 130 and a size 6. . .I'm afraid i wouldn't achieve this with the sleeve where I could with the rny. My body gets to that set point of 160 and just won't go lower no matter what I do. Should I make the extra effort to get the additional $ for the rny or just settle with the sleeve. I'm just afraid I won't lose weight after all the money and the process.

    RNY OR SLEEVE?

Thanks! Great reasons, helps reaffirm my decision and be more confident that I made the right choice.

    October Sleevers - Who else

Kharold, jwink, amd runnergirlsmom, we are all having surgery the same day! Exciting!
  5. I am self-pay as well and so I am going to Mexico to have my surgery next Monday (a week from tomorrow). It is costing me a mere $5,700 plus around $800 for the flight there for me and my mom. (I am paying for her to accompany me). My local hospital would've charge 18,700. No way I could've afforded that. I know it sounds crazy, and I totally brushed off the idea at first until in my research, it kept popping up...lots of people doing this in Mexico. Then I came to find out that 2 ladies that work where I do have actually done it already!! I picked their brains over lunch a few times and finally felt confident enought to move forward with it. No 6-12 months of waiting for me. I have only been making the arrangements over the last 2 months. And most of that had to do with getting time off at work and also a time that would work for my mom to go with me since I didn't want to go alone. The $5700 pays for everything but my flight there. It includes all preop labs, ekg, etc. 3 nights in the hospital and 2 nights in a 5 star hotel, plus transportation to and from the airport and also between the hotel and hospital, plus a guest to come with for no extra charge.
  6. My pre op diet is shake for breakfast, shake for lunch, green salad with fat free dressing and a lean solid protein i.e. chicken breast, steak, and another shake after dinner if needed. Any sugar free fluids in addition are fine. This is just what my dr. wants me to do.
  7. Would you consider making this a secret group instead of closed group instead? Only a handful of people know about my surgery and I would like to stay as private as possible with it with the exception of other wls patients.
  8. Question I keep getting asked. . . ."Why are you doing bypass and not the sleeve?" I'd love to hear everyone else's answers. . .
  9. Hi bob, I well be a month ahead of you. Dr Ortiz is doing my surgery Oct 14! Good luck to you!

    Must haves for post op?

Thanks! I guess I'll be taking lots of little walks between those two Mondays.
  12. Yes, I started my 2 week preop on friday. So far not bad so I'm hoping I can keep it up. Well, I will keep it up, I just might get a little cranky in a few more days. Ha!

    Must haves for post op?

My surgery is on a Monday and I am planning on going back to work the next Monday, a week later. Is this unrealistic? I have a desk job, I do accounts payable for a hospital so I am sitting most of the day, some walking within the office to send an occasional fax or get something off the printer, etc. My coworkers and supervisor don't know I'm doing this. I am telling them I have to have my gallbladder out. I figured that would explain the incisions and the belly pain. ?? Any thoughts on this?

Wow, good for u. So do u just feel full and satisfied faster? I mean what does the feeling compare to? I want to know what it feels like. Food? Cuz I constantly snacking amd grazing, all day. Never huge meals, just constant snacking. How will the sleeve play into this?
