Well ladies its day 4 after surgery! Things have finally started to work out! Today has been the best day so far! I actually woke up with an appetite! Had a small Protein shake and drank about 3/4 cup and kept it down with NO NAUSEA! Yesterday I threw up 4 times! Not fun with a newly stapled stomach and incisions! I had to call the doctors office to have them prescribe some anti nausea meds and switch me from the liquid pain meds to a smaller pill! This I think made a huge difference! For anyone who is about to go through this please be prepared for the few rough days after being discharged. I don't want to try and sugar coat any of this because you need to be mentally prepared for the worst! Ok enough rambling! How did the small pill go down? I'm not a fan of liquid meds.

You guys are so sweet! I've got a lot to lose so I imagine I could get lucky and lose a fair amount the first few months. I would be happy with 40 pounds!

I don't understand why my surgeon said If I get approved then I have surgery in Jan?? Looks like most of you all get your surgery like a month or two after approval' date=' weird.[/quote']Are there other requirements that your insurance wants? What insurance do you have? Is he that busy that he doesn't have any openings?
I want mine done before the deductible sets in again.

I'm in Schaumburg and will go to Good Shepard in Barrington for my surgery using Barrington Surgeons.

Wow, I can't believe I'm getting so close. My surgeons office submitted to insurance today and I got a tentative date of Oct 14th for my surgery. I had actually hoped to get it done the week before but since I just saw the surgeon for the first time last week, I should be happy. Lol. Pre op is oct 8th to see the surgeon and nutritionist.
I will be 10 weeks out at Christmas, which makes me feel better about the whole procedure. I will be completely healed and able to enjoy shopping, wrapping, and Santa!
Time to tell my husband, I guess!

I just got my approval and surgery date yesterday. I am 10/22. It took 2 full weeks for BCBS to give my approval. For no reason other than....they could take up to 15 business days.I went through everything quickly so I could be done by early Sept. They dragged their feet and now he is booked till then. Pretty disappointed' date=' but ,I will get it done![/quote']My surgeon submitted this morning and I got my tentative surgery date. I am with BCBS as well, Illinois for me.

hey all' date=' I am so thrilled to have ALL my pre-op appointments over! I have been at this since February and now Im done. The psych eval was not as bad I thought at all! I am going with Dr. Eagon in St.Louis, Mo so every appointment I went to was there and I live in Illinois, so I drove an hour to get to them. ugh, last one should be to meet with Dr, Eagon and set up a date ( I hope) and just wait for approval!! I am sooooooooooooooooo excited! Anyone else in my shoes on here?? whats your story?[/quote']Where in Illinois do you live? I am officially in your shoes. I did my Psyc eval yesterday, he submitted to my surgeon, and she submitted it to insurance this morning. Should be about a week before I am approved. I also got my tentative surgery date, and pre op appt set. Is so real now, I've got to pull out my notebook and start planning! Rest assure, I will be calling my insurance to get the ball rolling faster. Good luck.

You can certainly try it out after the obglitory 6 week wait period following surgery' date=' but if it were me, I would wait until further down the line when you are able to eat enough to support success on the programs.[/quote']Oh for sure. I need to lose the fat and develop my healthy eating habits and new routine. I just like to plan out and visualize what I want to do when I'm ready.

These are definitely good programs to follow.
Tom V of Burn the Fat' date=' Feed the Muscle really focuses on quality nutrition and is very scientific in his communication style. I have read his book a couple times, first when it was still only available as an rebook directly through his site (now available on Amazon).
Bill's Body for Life and his brother Shawn's book called Strength for life are fairly hard core to follow during your "losing" stage (eg the "honeymoon" stage). Body for life would be hard for us because it focuses primarily on the development of a muscular body. We do not eat enough to build any kind of real muscle that would win a body for life competition.
Strength for life is a more practical approach to building real strength through progressive intensity. I really like this program and did a variation of it at the beginning of this summer. To put it in perspective, I had been in maintain mode for 4 months before starting the strength for life program. It really paid off in huge dividends with helping me build real strength based on power, stamina and endurance, not just flashy muscles?[/quote']
So do you think Toms book or Strength book is better for down the line? I haven't read Strength yet but have read the other 2 many times. Glad to hear you have success with a program. I like to follow something specifically rather than going it alone. Although after this I will probably get a trainer for a while. Thanks for the info.

I had to fill out two pages. He asked me about my history and I got a mini lecture. I was in and out within 20 minutes.
What was the lecture he gave you? Mine discussed my results with and talked about me being a good candidate mentally. It's funny how true and false tells him about my little mind.
-
Still amazes me that some people have to take test during their psych evals and some don't. Mine was only a discussion session for about 45 minutes' date=' with a few meditation and relaxation techniques to help cope with stress, as not to fall to food during those times.Glad you did well...[/quote']
I agree. How is there not a standard for approving someone for the surgery? I was nervous about the questions he may ask and then some of the questions on the test were so dumb, but it was easy.
-
Went for my Psyc eval today and passed. He said he has never had someone finish the test so fast or give better answers!!! Our office sends approvals to insurance on Thursdays. He is finishing up the note and I'm hoping she can submit tomorrow. So excited.

Has anyone tried Body for Life or Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle after WLS?
They were both good when I was younger and didn't have 115 pounds to lose and I wonder if the concept is goof for after my surgery.

I'm here! Absolutely scared to death! In my gown. Waiting on an IV. Terrified!!!Good luck!!!
