"Cardio" setting vs "Fat Burn" setting on elliptical
HealthyNewMe replied to HealthyNewMe's topic in Fitness & Exercise
What is "anaerobic?" I've been using the elliprical for a year now. I complete 60 minutes plus a 5 minute cooldown. I set the settings according to my weight. I then set it on "random," and the level to 10. At the 5, 10, 15 minute intervals, I go in "reverse",and then back forward, and up the level. By the time I'm at 50 minutes, I am at level 20. I'm burning appoximately 770 calories. When I check my heart rate, I am anywhere between 160 - 168. I am 54 years old. Just wanted to know if I should try any other settings or routines. -
I went to my class reunion this past Saturday. Saw friends of mine from as early as Kindergarten. Many of these friends I see periodically, others I haven't seen for years. One friend of mine, who is a nutritionist, comes up to me with all kinds of compliments on my weight loss. "Please tell me how you did it, " she asked. So, I start off with what I tell almost everybody that asks.... My husband and I joined a gym a year ago, and we work out six days a week. She didn't accept that, and asked all about the food (Of course she did, she IS a nutritionist). I told her that I eat smaller amounts and cut out eating a lot of the carbs I used to live on. "Oh," she says, "Glad to see that you did it THE NATURAL WAY." I asked what she meant by that...... "Glad to see you didn't take the EASY WAY OUT and have WLS." The next words out of my mouth..... "Oh, and by the way, Sandy," I said, "I HAD WEIGHT LOSS SURGERY TOO." Turned around and walked off...... EASY WAY OUT, MY @$$ !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I'm not hungry until after 1:00PM, but I thought that was bc I am a two cup morning coffee drinker (which alwaiys acts like an appetitie suppressant to me), and I have never been a Breakfast eater..... That's interesting, but I have never heard that before. Best wishes!

Looking forward to my 2nd fill!
HealthyNewMe replied to lcoolpix's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I've lost consistently over the last 10 months, but didn't feel good restriction until the 6th fill. Every one is so different with this. There are some people who didn't even need a fill. Some had a fill during surgery. Others needed multiple fills. Patience is definitely a virtue with weight loss and getting into the GREEN ZONE! Best Wishes! -
Carbs: aka, the crack cocaine of foods
HealthyNewMe replied to TonyaNKy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I honestly believe that the addiction to carbs is very similar to a drug addicts addiction to drugs. If I am eating carbs, I want to continue eating them....... I have withdrawel symptoms getting off of them (headaches and sleepiness). Once I'm off of them, the craving subsides and leaves me. I CANNOT have them in my house. I cook brown rice, whole wheat pasta, and sweet potatoes, but to be honest, I try to not eat too much of those either. And heaven forbid, I start talking about the sweets....... That would really put me in a tailspin. Best wishes as you try to break the carb cycle. -
I can't stop thinking about food O_o
HealthyNewMe replied to bbbanded's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You and I have very close statistics, except for the dates we were banded. As stated by @@ErinMarie, does it ever pass? I sure hope so, and I sure hope this is just a short time where you are becoming obsessed by food. I think I will always have THE FEAR of going back to my old ways of eating and of not exercising. I try to use that fear as a daily motivator to keep exercising and to keep logging food intake. No words of wisdom, just good wishes coming your way! -

Life got in the way, but you took it back!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
I know exercise routines and gym time needs to fit around busy schedules (work, school, kids, Saints football games), but I was curious as to when most people exercise and why at that time? Would it be different if you didn't have the above mentioned factors? ..... Let's say like "RETIRED FOLKS." I work in the afternoon..... And add to that I'm NOT a "morning person," so my favorite time to exercise is MID-MORNING! Once I get that workout done, I'm so motivated to let my band help me keep my food in check for the rest if the day......Just curious!!!!!!

POSE (Primary Obesity Surgery Endolumenal)
HealthyNewMe posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
New type of WLS for patients who have never had WLS. The stomach is folded in on itself, similar to gastric plication. However, surgery is done endoscopically through the mouth, so no incisions. Minimally invasive. No scars. BMI of 27-35+ My surgeon in New Orleans is conducting trials on this procedure now. No long term studies yet. JUST WANTED TO SHARE THIS WITH EVERYBODY, BC IT'S THE FIRST I'VE HEARD OF IT. -
POSE ( Primary Obesity Surgery Endoluminol)
HealthyNewMe posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Just came back from my surgeon's office. He and his partners are doing a trial on a new outpatient, incision less procedure on people who only need to lose 20 to 50 pounds. As a matter of fact, the patients BMI must be between 30 and 40. This procedure is done through the mouth. Endoscope and surgical tools are used to pinch off sections of the stomach, primarily the fundus area, and then sutured to make the stomach smaller. The size of the cavity is reduced by about 20%. This procedure is only being done in New Orleans, and there are no long term studies yet, since it is just being done now in clinical trials. VERY INTERESTING !!!!! -
I, too, do NOT eat when nervous or depressed. Can actually go for days without thinking about food during stressful times. Actually lost 20 pounds during the six weeks following Hurricane Katrina. I do, however, eat when BORED...... Thus, I have to keep myself busy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Glad you enjoyed your European vacation. I'm headed off for a ten day trip to Disney and Destin with two "adult" daughters and two "teenage" sons...... Heaven help me!!!!!!!!!!!!

About to head off for an eleven day vacation with my husband, two "adult" daughters, and two teenage sons....... SHOULD BE INTERESTING! I guess I'm writing this on this forum to help me COMMITT to doing the following...... 1. Get to the gym at the resort four out of the six days there...... for a 45 minute cardio workout before heading to the amusement parks..... Why? I have MORE ENERGY for the day on the days I work out. 2. Carry in my backpack: Protein bars, individual bags of nuts, and Water bottles. 3. Share lunch and dinner options with my husband and/or kids, instead of ordering a whole entree, and not being able to take home the leftovers. 4. Take a bite or two off of my kid's daily buy of Micky Mouse Ice Cream bars, and not devour two or three a day on my own. 5. Take a vacation from myfitnesspal, and NOT log in on a daily basis, knowing that my trusty band won't let me overeat anyway. 6. Start my beach days off with a long walk and end my beach days with a long walk along the beach. 7. Enjoy being able to walk the parks, get on and off the rides, and take pictures with the kids, w/out the burden of the extra 125 pounds of weight I had on my body the last time we did this trip. 8. Walk around the water parks in my size 12 bathing suit WITHOUT WEARING A COVER-UP ALL DAY. I'll let y'all know how it goes........ YIPPPPEEEE !!!!!!!!!!!

Does Your Band Get Tighter A Few Days after Your Fill
HealthyNewMe replied to dmh102's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My last two fractions of a fill gave me perfect restriction, and then sort of "wore off" (for lack of a better description) after about three weeks. I do think everyone reacts a little differently after a fill. I swore I would not get another small fill, for fear that I would be too tight, but as of today, I am reconsidering and asking for another fraction of a fill the next visit I have in mid-June. My NP said that I'm now at the stage of having the band FINE TUNED! -
I thought I was (fill in the blank), but really, I was just fat.
HealthyNewMe replied to LipstickLady's topic in Rants & Raves
Thought I was "hot-natured," but it turns out, I was just fat......... Always need a jacket or sweater now.... Even in the summer months! -
How happy I am for you, my little, petite friend!
