Why do I keep making stupid choices?

I hadn't eaten sweets in over two years, and then I brought home a cake for my daughter's graduation party from our favorite local bakery........ I sliced and ate sliver after sliver of that cake for two days. It put me in a complete sugar coma (just an expression). but I had headaches and was sleepy for two days following that....... Had to go through the sugar withdrawals all over again...... When will you learn? Apparently for me, that answer is NEVER. I have to stay VERY VIGILANT about what I allow to enter this house.

    who is this person?

Liz, How similar our minds are...... Never saw myself as FAT (327 pounds) and don't see myself for the size I am now. I'm not in therapy, but apparently I need to be! You look even thinner than you did in April. I'm so happy for you and PROUD of you! Tammie

    Scale not moving, but......

The Red Dress Run is an annual 5K BAR HOPPING "RUN" through the French Quarter, where everyone, including the men, wear RED DRESSES. The older and funkier the dresses, the better. Lots of alcohol, but that's par for the course when you live in THE BIG EASY!!!!!!!!! I bought a CUTE red summer dress bc I intend to wear it again. My husband's dress is a THRIFT STORE MARKDOWN. LOL

    Considering a Lap Band

Well, in my opinion, you're not "giving up," but you are "TAKING CHARGE." You've realized, like all of us, that DIETING does not work for you (or us), so you are deciding to take charge of your health and mobility by getting a TOOL to help you lose those pounds. You will read positives and negatives about all three WLSs. My opinion only......... I wanted the lap band because it is the least invasive surgery option. It is also adjustable, and if needed, removable. Negatives...... You MUST change your eating habits...... no gobbling, must eat very slowly, tiny bites, chew, chew, chew. You must also be patient bc for most, the weight loss is sometimes slower than it is with the other surgeries. It is such a personal decision. My only regret...... waiting till I was 53 to have it! Best Wishes!

    Scale not moving, but......

Bandista..... You know I've been following you and your progress since I came on this site. We have sooooo much in common. I wanted you to know that I bought eight dresses this week, three of them were maxi's. All of them were a size 12. I haven't bought a dress in over 20 years. My husband has a sort of new wife. He's doing well too..... Down to a size 38 pant for him. We're going to have a heck of a 26th anniversary in two weeks. Hotel reservations in downtown New Orleans, the Red Dress Run with our two 20something year old daughters, a shared dinner at Commander's Palace, and lots of new clothes to wear for both of us. Keep it up, Bandista.......And thanks for all of the encouragement and positive vibes you keep putting out there!
  8. There are a few people here who fall in this category. I started my journey at a high weight of 327. I now weigh less that 192 (not sure the exact weight bc I don't weigh but once every 4-6 weeks at my doctor's office.) My journey started with me trying yet another DIET on January 2, 2012. I gave up most refined carbohydrates for that year, and by May of 2013, I weighed 288. I joined a gym and painstakingly made myself go 5-6 days a week, even though I could barely move, or breathe, for the first two months. I had lapband surgery on Aug 22, 2013, with my weight at 271. I now weigh somewhere at or less than 192. I still go to the gym 6 days a week, and I LOOK FORWARD TO IT EACH AND EVERY DAY. I will post "Before" and "Now" pictures here........

    Hiding the scale!

I gave up my scale over a year ago........ Only weigh once every six weeks at my doctor appointments....... Have lost every single month, from anywhere as little as 2 pounds to as much as 11 pounds..... I don't see the stalls or the daily fluctuations due to Water retention, etc. It was VERY LIBERATING!
  10. Wouldn't it be fun to see how much weight was lost by so many wonderful people. I'll start with my weight loss, and you add yours on to the previous post, and let's see where this leads!!!!!! Show the previous total in your post, and add yours on.... 135
  11. I'll REcalculate tomorrow. I know it's now close to TWO TONS!

    Obsessing?

Being informed and prepared will all pay off in the long run..... Because it's more than just the surgery that leads to successful long term weight loss. I actually even joined (and went to) a gym three months before my surgery. It helped make for a very speedy recovery. Best wishes to all of you pre-op people!

Gym routine is paying off! New milestone!

Labwalker, So glad to see that you are over this plateau........ I'm now to the point that I NEED to switch up my work-out routine, but I get such a high burning 700-800 calories a day, that I'm scared to stop as much cardio to get in the weight resistance. Guess I'll just have to stay at the gym an hour and a half instead of just an hour...... LOL.............JUST AN HOUR!!!!!!!!
  20. I hate to say this, but it can happen further on down the line as well. I thought I was in the GREEN twice before, but then that zone was elusive after a while. According to my doctor, you may go along fine for three to four to five months, and then all of a sudden you may need another small fill....... I guess bands can be fickle. I'm 11 months out, so my appointments are now being stretched to six weeks instead of every four weeks. I intend to continue with all scheduled appointments, even through the second year. Best wishes.
  21. I fall asleep so much easier, and I sleep through the night almost every single night now. I always had some sleep issues, but I didn't realize until recently how much my sleep issues improved. I didn't know if it was the weight loss, or the exercise, or a combination of the two, but I now think it is the exercise........ I exercise six days a week now, and I sleep beautifully on those nights, but the one day a week I don't exercise, I find I don't fall asleep as easily.........INTERESTING !!!!!!!!!
