HealthyNewMe replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
Not only is it okay to "change your goals or resolutions," you don't have to wait until..... Next year, On Monday, Tomorrow morning, When I finish this project...... Change the goals and focus on them NOW..... Even if its a Tuesday afternoon at 4:51 !!!!!!! -
My appointments and fills are about four to six weeks apart. I'm getting my fourth fill next Monday (1/13), and I was banded on August 22, 2013.

I ordered an exercise bike
HealthyNewMe replied to MzEboni912's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congratulations on ordering that bike. I found it a great way to get the cardio in and just moving... Because it is not weight baring, it's easier on the joints! -
No more DIET New Year's RESOLUTIONS for me!
HealthyNewMe posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
For the first time in my adult life I won't be making my typical "I'm going on a diet," "I'm going to lose weight," "I'm going to join a gym and exercise everyday" resolutions....... WHY???? I have the band.... I don't DIET anymore. I am losing weight. I've been going to the gym 5-6 times a week for the past seven months. It's now a regular part of my day that I must do..... I crave the endorphins!!!! -

What do you order at restaurants after weight loss surgery?
HealthyNewMe replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My husband and I split the main entree and order either an extra side or salad. No bread at our table..... My biggest addiction, gave it up two years ago and I can't go back to it. If the wait staff brings it to the table, we send it back. My biggest problem is NOT BEING ABLE TO DRINK THROUGHOUT THE MEAL...... I miss that..., I used to drink at least two iced teas or lemon waters along with my meal. -
I'm going to BR in Feb. I had my surgery after participating in a long term study at LSU's Pennington Biomedical Research Facility. As part of the study I need to go back at 6 months post-op, 1 yr, 2 yrs, 3 yrs, 4 yrs, and 5 yrs. I live on the Westbank in New Orleans.

I can only speak for myself.... I needed to EXERCISE..... This is coming from a 53 year old certified COUCH POTATO. Exercising + Lapband = SUCCESS I couldn't walk more than two city blocks on our last family vacation (Aug., '12). Actually used a wheel chair going through museums in Chicago. My husband and I joined Planet Fitness this past June (June '13). Couldn't walk more than 10 minutes on the treadmill. Now doing an hour a day on elliptical SIX days a week.... Husband has lost 43 pounds (exercising and watching refined carbs). I find that exercising is helping me with the weight loss (and most definitely the energy level ) until I get in the green zone. It was a killer at first..... But, it's what I needed. 2014~~~~ GET MOVING!!!!! Start with a fifteen (or ten) minute walk. Then, do that AGAIN and AGAIN and AGAIN. I also find that when I exercise, I make better food choices bc I don't want to blow all of that hard work! YOU CAN DO IT! YOU CAN DO IT! YOU WILL DO IT!!!!!!

How to know when you have hit the GREEN ZONE?
HealthyNewMe replied to BeachBish's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
The band may not stop you from eating more food. I could eat a 16 oz steak if I wanted but I'd be miserable and it wouldn't taste good after the first 6 ozs. The flavor and appetite dwindle rapidly after the first cup of food.I'm going to really try to read, feel, and act upon SATIATION, without OVER-STUFFING! -
How to know when you have hit the GREEN ZONE?
HealthyNewMe replied to BeachBish's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I feel like I'm getting close...... Only hungry enough to eat twice a day......Not snacking....Not thinking about and obsessing over food....., But, I Know I'm not in green zone yet bc of the quantity of food I can eat..... Much more than a cup of food at a time. For example, yesterday's New Year's dinner... I ate 1 1/2 cup of smothered cabbage, a cup of sautéed mushrooms, and a cup of black eye peas...... Then, I got my hiccups..... My signal for not one more bite! I'm hoping another fill (Jan. 13) will get me there! -

Brutally Honest Today
HealthyNewMe replied to Deweydoer's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As far as "crunchy," I make guacamole quite often, and my healthy, fit, nutritious minded daughter introduced me to a brand of chips called Beanitos. You can choose those made from black beans or pinto beans. This is just my opinion..... They are not tasty by themselves, but they are a great vessel to hold guacamole or refried beans with chesse. I don't eat this as a snack food, but I count it as one of my meals. -

Damn Southern cooking and eating. I'm from New Orleans, where "We don't eat to live, but we live to eat." Where most other areas of our beautiful country finish the holiday food weeks on New Years Day, five days later, in NOLA, we start with King Cakes celebrating the Mardi Gras/Carnival season....... With all of that said, YOU HAVE LOST 15 POUNDS...... And even more impressively, you have lost/maintained through the holidays! Hold your head high, continue to pray and work through this lifestyle change ONE DAY AT A TIME! Best wishes to you and your husband in 2014.

What Was Your Ah-Ha (Or Oh Crap) Moment?
HealthyNewMe replied to SoccerMomma73's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Simply put.......a PICTURE speaks a thousand words!!!!!! -
Sorry to read about you losing your momma......the only person in the world who loves you more than anybody else. I'm blessed to still have my mother..... she's 89 and still lives on her own, still drives to church every day, and still goes to WORKOUT FIVE DAYS A WEEK. Yes, 89 and belongs to a gym...... I thought your post was interesting bc we all know "what weight we were when....." I reached my all time highest weight in January of 2012...... 327 pounds. I am almost to the weight I was when I delivered my first child 24 years ago..... 229. My next goal is my wedding weight.... 187. Here's to you reaching your goal and me reaching mine. HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Eight Weeks Out and a New Year!
HealthyNewMe replied to Bandista's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Bandista.... I have been reading YOUR comments and insight for the past three months. In so many ways, you remind me of ME.... We're close to the same age. You have a son graduating from high school in May, I had one graduate from high school this past May... ( I also have a ninth grade son, a 22 year old daughter who will graduate from LSU's grad school this May, and a 24 year old daughter who is a nurse at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore). You also remind me of ME in how you are working on your relationship with food and with your new found joy of exercising..... Same things here! I, too, am waiting to get into that Green Zone. I am not hungry in between meals and I don't feel the need to always eat. My problem is with the amount if food I can still eat before feeling satiated. I have a feeling our Green Zone is just around the corner. I am glad that I gave up my scale and my obsession of weighing everyday. Weighing once a month to every six weeks is helping me out quite a bit. Good luck and stay strong..... GREEN in just around the corner ! -
