It's for REAL !!!!!!
-
Before this journey, I had lots of guilt..... Guilt over everything I ate. Guilt for letting myself weigh up to 327 pounds. Guilt for being a couch potato. Guilt over not dieting. Guilt over "cheating" on a diet. Guilt for having my children potentially lose their mother over obesity related health issues. I decided to forgive myself when I went through this transformation..... this life changing process. I still sometimes experience guilt, but for a completely different reason..... Whenever I hear that "I don't want to evercise today," GUILT kicks my butt out the door!!!!!

Started Liquid Diet
HealthyNewMe replied to starfish n coffee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm participating in a long term study as part of my lap band surgery. The nurses told me that the average weight loss on the two week liquid phase was between 10 to 12 pounds. If the participants didn't loose a minimum of 8 pounds, their surgery was automatically postponed. We were given five protein packets a day for fourteen days, totaling 800 calories a day. Other than water, no other liquids (broth, juice, etc) were allowed. I did what I had to do bc I was getting a free surgery out of the study. I lost 17 pounds. Best of luck to you! NOTHING tastes as good as HEALTHY feels! -
I had to go through withdrawals (headaches) and "white knuckle" it for three or four days when I gave up sugar and flour two years ago..... Very rough in the beginning! I don't have any advice other than: Quit buying it..... Stop buying it..... Do NOT buy it!

Happy 2014 January Challange
HealthyNewMe replied to lisaholland73's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I may have met my weight goal, but I have not weighed since Jan. 13, and I weighed 229 on that date. I won't weigh again until Feb. 8th. On 1/13, I was at a 98 pound weight loss. I surpassed most of my exercise goals..... I went to the gym TWENTY-SEVEN out of thirty-one days this month. I logged in ONE HUNDRED FIFTY-EIGHT MILES on the elliptical. I only did the weight resistance circuit SEVEN times this month.... This goal I did NOT meet. Regarding my goal/dream of becoming a runner.... I did "run" once this month..... 2.5 miles..... I made the decision to try this again, but after taking off more weight. I started the goal of organizing the freaking PAPER WORK...... Ugh..... I now have fourteen piles of papers to file, but at least I started..... Just need to finish. I am keeping up my New Year's resolution...,,I am forgiving myself !!!!!!! JANUARY WAS A GOOD MONTH! -
JANUARY TOTALS: Went to gym TWENTY-SEVEN out of thirty-one days....... Total miles on elliptical: ONE HUNDRED FIFTY-EIGHT MILES...... Weight Resistance circuit: only SEVEN times this month....... This FORMER couch potato is a couch potato no more!!!!!!!

I think i hit green!
HealthyNewMe replied to bluegudren's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I sure hope you are..... According to my personal experience, I thought I was GREEN after my last fill. Unfortunately, after a week and a half, I knew I wasn't. But, I'm very hopeful that I will be there after my next visit on Feb 8. I have read other posters mention that it sometimes takes a week or two to know how a fill truly has worked. Best of luck.... Hope you have found your SWEET SPOT. I truly feel that I am sooooo close !!!!!! -
What a great three years..... I'm always happy to read your threads and responses. Glad you got your life back..... Your new and improved life!

Yippee !!!!! Yahoo!!!!! Yeahhhh!!!!!!

I gave up Diet Coke a couple of years ago. Very thankful for getting over that addiction. Anything that can be used to tenderize meat or get rid of erosion on a car battery cannot possibly be healthy for my body !!!! It was a hard thing to give up, but I'm so glad that I did!

Good luck to you on your journey. I had my band surgery and all follow up fills as part of a long term study as well. No expense to me as a participant in the study. My doctor refers to those patients participating in the study as GOLDEN TICKET WINNERS!!!!

I don't eat breakfast.... Never have. I do drink two or three cups of coffee every morning and this seems to hold me throughout the morning. I do one hour of cardio every day on the elliptical, mid morning. For lunch, I have.....protein shakes blended with frozen fruit, a salad, chili, tuna or chicken salad. For dinner, I eat whatever I cook for the family. I don't often SNACK throughout the day or night. When I do, it's usually peanut butter spread on a banana, or cheese and salami, or a protein bar. The only things I try to avoid are refined carbohydrates, like sugar, flour, white rice, white potatoes, white pasta.

Personal Milestone Today
HealthyNewMe replied to wadeg7's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I hear you.... I lost 100+ pounds TWICE before (how sick is that?).... Both times in my twenties. I'm now 53 and may be at a 100+ pound weight loss. I say "may be" bc I only weigh at the doc's every month and I won't weigh again till Feb. 8. Last month, I had reached a 98 pound loss. I, too, have become an exerciser. I look forward to an hour if cardio six or even seven times a week. I have learned to listen to my body and study my FULL signals. And this time, I'M NOT ON A DIET!!! I eat healthy food to fuel my body and my buddy, the band, helps me with portion control. Congrats on your weight loss. That's a hell of a weight loss!!!!!! -
I'm eat pretty regular times on weekdays.... No breakfast, just lots of coffee. I eat lunch after my mid morning workout ( I try to drink a protein shake with frozen fruit at least three out of those five days). I then eat dinner around six. I'm definitely a creature of habit. BTW, I am hungry at lunchtime and dinner time. Weekends usually involve meals out, so I plan on eating according to the restaurant and whatever time we are meeting friends. Curb the hunger in between with water and coffee!

What's your favorite go to snacks?
HealthyNewMe replied to need2bthin!'s topic in Food and Nutrition
I, too, rarely ever snack now. I do plan snack food (ex. guacamole and Beanito chips), but I eat it as a meal. -
ready for bread? try high protein low carb bagels
HealthyNewMe replied to NMJG's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I found chips that I eat with guacamole. They are called Beanitos..... Two varieties .... One made from ground black beans, one made from ground pinto beans. I eat the chips and guacamole as a meal, bc I really try to eat just two or three times a day----- my own goal. For Superbowl Sunday, I'll make the homemade guacamole and eat the chips and call it a day! I personally don't like the chips alone, but they are a great vessel for guacamole or homemade salsa. -
I understand your fear. I've felt the same fear..... Why not? I lost 100 pounds TWICE in my life.... Both times in my twenties. How sad that I gained it back plus some additional pounds.... So yes, I have that fear too. But from the bottom of my heart I KNOW it will be different this time around. I'm participating in a long term (5year) study as part of this lap band surgery. The findings so far are very promising. And I'm a different person now than I was three decades ago. I am on this lifelong journey ONE DAY AT A TIME! Best of luck STAYING IN THE PRESENT.

What was the craziest DIET you've ever been on? When I was 13 (40 years ago), my mom brought me to some DOCTOR (AKA "Quack") that injected me with Pregnant Women's URINE, gave me a prescription for "what was "SPEED", and placed me on a 500 calorie a day DIET. I wonder what the long term repercussions of that diet would have done to my body..... YIKES!

Hey..... I think you're YOUNG..... I'll be 54 in March! Congrats on the surgery be complication free and I hope you rock that band!

How Do You Beat the Cold?
HealthyNewMe replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
New Orleans planned for the big SNEAUX storm by closing down schools and roads for two days. So I have my husband (teacher) home as well as two of my four kids. We have watched movies, played board games, and snuggled like when the kids were little. My husband and I still went to the gym yesterday morning before road closures and we plan on going today once temps get above freezing. I've been entertained looking at friends Facebook pages of frosted windshields and icicles hanging off of patio furniture. The Deep South prays for SNEAUX..... Go figure!
