A Very Disappointed Lap-Band Patient
HealthyNewMe replied to Libb's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I can't imagine going through this weight loss journey with a doctor who did not support me... Are there other banders who switched doctors or clinics???? Here are a few questions that came to my mind... Are you eating all your protein? Did you pretty much cut out refined carbohydrates? Are you measuring amounts of good? Are you journaling in a food log? I feel bad that you want to give up... Please consider your health and look into finding a doctor and nutritionist who can help you work your band. -
Probably no NEW advice ...you know the deal.... Protein, protein, and more protein. Cut out refined carbohydrates. Measure portion sizes again. Perhaps a food log... And get moving ---- EXERCISE. See, you already knew it.... And I wouldn't hold my head down for losing 55 pounds..... I mean, " YOU LOST 55 POUNDS!" Congrats on that achievement!

I'm asking for the opinions of regular exercisers.... For the past three months, I have done 60 mins of cardio on the elliptical 6 days a week. Then, I might do a weight circuit ( not very often). It's like when I'm finished with the 60 mins., I think I'm done. So today, I did 30 mins. on the elliptical, did an arm circuit, and then I came back and did another 30 mins. on the elliptical....... SO, HERE's MY QUESTION..... Is it better to do 60 mins. of cardio straight or break it down into two 30 min. sessions???? Is there a benefit of one over the other?
-
THANK YOU.... This is sort of what I needed to know. 10 min FAST PACE WARMUP, then weights, then cardio..... I knew there must be some reason I saw people only do a few mins of cardio then head off to the weights!!!! LOL
-
Congrats, Bandista! Glad your Winnie the Pooh belly is deflating ..... LOL
-
I really want to know what is better.... I'm going to get the 60 mins in a day. I want to know what is better..... 1 hour with wreights after OR 2 thirty minute sessions with weights in between????? I think B52 may have answered my question the longer at my target heart rate, the better).

Motivational/Inspirational Quotes

It's not going to be easy, but it is going to be worth it. -
I'm 53, so no skin elasticity here either..... But, this is how I see it: I'd rather look like a shar pei than a beached whale !!!!!
-
Thanks..... I never even thought of that. Great idea. I really don't have a fruit restriction, but I'm always looking for ways to SAVE THOSE CALORIES!!!!!
-
Only 20 more days...... I see a lot more outdoor exercising in the late afternoon in my near future..... March 9.
-
I bought frozen sliced strawberries and frozen pineapple chunks from Sam's. I also buy bananas and let them get really ripe ( I then peel them and store them in the freezer). I use the vanilla protein shake and mix snd match the frozen fruit, using my new Ninja blender..... It tastes like tropical heaven!!!!

Motivational/Inspirational Quotes

I would hang that card on my mirror or refrigerator or somewhere where I could read it often...... A very thoughtful gift from your husband. My sweet husband brought me yellow roses ( my favorite) and one piece of sugar free Russel Stover chocolate candy. -
I feel sad for you losing your lifelong friend. I have been on both sides of this coin. I have one friend who lost 200+ pounds, by cutting out all carbs. Every single time we ran in to people we knew, she had to go through the story of the weight loss transformation..... All the while my 327 pound self stood there to hear it yet again. I WAS JEALOUS..... Didn't want to be, but I was. But, nonetheless, I was supportive and encouraged her all the way. I mean, she is my friend. That's what friends do....... Now, I've lost a little over 100 pounds and I was worried about my relationship with my two BEST friends who are overweight. One of them has joined the gym with me and has been by my side on a daily basis. She is doing fabulous as well bc of all the exercise. The other friend stated out loud that she is jealous, but she can handle it too. So, I am lucky. The three of us have been like sisters since elementary school ( and we are 53)..... So a very long time. We have supported each other when one of us is down and we gave been the rock for each other when there have been deaths in the families, and we are true friends..... No weight gain or weight loss could break that friendship. It just makes me think that your friend is perhaps weak. She doesn't know how to be supportive and happy for you. She doesn't know how to work through the jealousy. Sorry for your loss of your friend.

"3 week stall"
HealthyNewMe replied to sleepingarby's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't heard of it either, but I do know a weight loss journey will have many stalls along the way. Keep doing everything right ( healthy food choices & exercise) and you will begin the losing process again. I've read that some people think that a stall is just your body adjusting to a new weight...... You know, giving your body a chance to catch up with the weight loss. -
Tomorrow is Surgery Day! :)

Patience is a virtue
HealthyNewMe replied to cheryl2586's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Julie.... You are so right too.... The not gaining back. And I was all smiles about your comment about being able to navigate in a world meant for the average sized person.... Amen to that! -
Patience is a virtue
HealthyNewMe replied to cheryl2586's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Cheryl..... I soooo hear this message. Glad I did learn it. My life is so much better knowing I won't be losing quickly, but I will be losing steadily. -
That's funny! A good friend of mine list 100+ pounds, and I remember her saying that she cried like a baby when she felt her clavicle for the first time in decades.

Its the little things that matter.
HealthyNewMe replied to micki91's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I'll take loose fitting clothes any day over a number on a scale...... Only took me 53 years to learn that! And BTW, I still have a distorted body image when looking at myself through the mirror. When I was 327 pounds, I didn't seen myself as that fat. Now that I've lost a substantial amount of weight, I see only fat..... But, I do notice the difference when I look at pictures of myself..... Weird, huh? -
