advice wanted: calorie counts and losing last pounds
HealthyNewMe replied to much2gain's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Jenmarie.... As most would remind you, eat protein, protein, and more protein. Maybe you could start tracking your calories. I use MyFitnessPal. It makes me very accountable for every bite of food I choose to put in my mouth. As mentioned in the above status, I try to eat around 900 calories a day (to potentially lose 1 1/2 pounds a week), so that is the calorie goal I plug in to my food diary. I personally cut out or severely limit my carbs that come in the form of flour, bread products, sweets, pasta, white rice, and white potatoes. Not everyone exercises, but I personally exercise as much as six days a week. My husband and I are both teachers and we, too, have teenage boys. We leave school and exercise before coming home... At least on Thurs and Fri. Then, we exercise on Sat snd Sun. Do you have the band? If so, is it time to get an adjustment? We only have eight more weeks to our school year. I guess you're counting down too! -
8 days post op and worried! Please send some advice.

It actually took me 5 or 6 fills to hit the GREEN Zone.... 6 months post surgery. I lost weight during those 6 months, but I always felt like I was dieting. I sure wasn't eating the amount or volume of food I could eat before surgery, but I sure was eating more than I thought I would after being banded. Thus, like Bandista said, I was in Bandster Hell. What you are experiencing is quite NORMAL. You need to continue to heal and you will start feeling more and more restriction with each subsequent fill. Best wishes! -
advice wanted: calorie counts and losing last pounds
HealthyNewMe replied to much2gain's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I need 1653 a day to maintain (according to BMR) To lose 1 1/2 pounds a week, I need to cut out 750 calories a day (750x7 days = 5250 calories a week to cut out) 1653-750= 900 (rounded) So that's what I set my calorie goal as on MyFitnessPal. I burn around 730/day doing 65+ minutes of cardio. If I eat 900 minus the 730 I burn, I would only be netting 170 calories a day..... Way too low, so I can eat up to around 1500. 1500 minus the 730 I burn equals 770 a day (Which brings me a little below my 900 calorie a day goal). I sure hope this makes sense bc it seems difficult to explain as I'm typing.... LOL -

I take my current BMR, which is now 1653 calories. To lose 1 1/2 pounds a week, I cut out 750 calories a day, which brings my daily calorie goal to 900. I burn about 730 calories a day doing 65+ minutes of cardio. I do eat some of those calories back, so I usually net between 800-1000 calories a day. About once a week, I have a 1200-1400 calorie day. So far, this is helping me lose between 5 to 8 pounds a month. Congrats to YOU on the success of your weight loss journey! -
Here for my daughter.

I'm 54 and my 89 year young mother totally supported my WLS. As she said the other day, she was so glad to see me take the weight off before I started dealing with all the weight related medical conditions that I am sure was in my very near future. There is no love like a MOTHER'S LOVE. Your daughter is lucky to have you for her mom! -

Mikee.... The road to weight loss success is NOT a straight path..... There are many twists, turns, and kinks along the way. I remember feeling, at around months 2-5, that I would be the patient that this surgery did not help. I was losing, but totally by dieting . I just kept going in for my monthly fill appointments and VIOLA.... I eventually hit the SWEET SPOT..... For me, it was month 7. So far so good. You will get there.... Hang in there for the journey and continue with your follow up visits ! -

Throwing up 6-7 times a day normal?
HealthyNewMe replied to sherbear702's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Not normal.... Not normal at all. Poor food choices too. There is no "special duet" for lap banders, but most banders try to NOT eat all if that processed food. Bulimia??? Maybe. -
Plateaued and need to get the drive back.
HealthyNewMe replied to ineed2dothis4me's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was thinking the same thing.... Why have the band if you could control the amount of food you eat? Why wouldn't your PA or Doc or NP want to help you find your Green Zone? I'm sorry, but you shouldn't have to plead and beg for a fill. -
I also listen to Pandora's 80's cardio as I work out on the elliptical !

I'm a month after y'all. I love how we all KNOW our surgery dates. I call it my REBIRTH date! I'm finally in the GREEN. Shocking to see how such a little amount of food satisfies me. Shocking to see that I do 65 mins of cardio, six times a week. Shocking that I'm now in regular sized clothes. I don't know why it's that shocking...... This is what a lap band does for a person that works with it to lose weight !!!!! -

Jenny, How did that last fill go? -
An ELECTRIC heating pad. You plug it, choose a setting, and place the pad on an area of your body or you can lie on it. Can be bought at a drug store or even a store like WalMart.

My suggestion is that you don't buy a gym membership (unless it provides child care for its members), but do buy a treadmill or an elliptical for your home. At the very least, buy DVD workouts. If it's important to you, you'll find a way..... If it's not, you'll find an excuse. -

I live in New Orleans, Louisiana (the southern part of the U. S., near the Gulf of Mexico. We are experiencing beautiful spring weather, with temps in the mid 70's. I am vamping up my exercise and making it to the gym six days a week. I have made myself a priority this year, and I am reaping the benefits of doing so. My last fill put me in the Green zone, so I am doing well with the food and just trying to enjoy my life day by day. I've been shopping and buying new pieces of clothes as I am going to New YORK with two girlfriends in April, after Easter. My oldest daughter will be joining us for that trip. She is a nurse at a hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. She's been to Europe (and so has my second daughter), but I have not. It is on the bucket list though. Glad to see you're back in the journey. Keep in touch! Tammie -
I guess I put it in my mind that I would be happy eith five pounds a month (60 for the year). I am surpassing that, but by accepting that it would not drop off quickly, I'm thankful for any weight loss..... Remember, it's a journey. Enjoy the trip!
