Fat Trap - an article providing food for thought

I have retread this article twice now and discussed it with both my husband and my best friend. Please share y'all's opinion in my take on how I'm interpreting this.... Let's say you have a 150 pound woman who has never been a higher weight than that. It may take her 2000 cal a day to maintain that weight. Now take, for example, a 250 pound woman who has lost 100 pounds and is down to 150 pounds. In order to maintain that 150 pound weight, it may take her 1600 cal a day to maintain that weight. In other words, the woman who lost the weight must continue to eat several hundred calories less a day to maintain her weight than the person who has never been overweight. This to me is MINDBLOWING and explains soooo much. Very powerful info to all hitting MAINTENANCE phase!

    Crawfish season is killong me!

Bluegudren..... Same here! TWO pounds and a half an onion..... I'm good to go. We throw a big boil every May. Last May, I was on a two week mandated liquid diet and diligently stuck to it..... Was one of the hardest things to do.... Drink a liquid protein shake when we had 175 pounds of crawfish for all our guests. This year, those two pounds will be like heaven. I told my husband we should boil 120 pounds to secretly represent my weight loss!!!!!
  5. How awesome for you and your life changing transformation!

    Plateau? Get Over It!

Alex, I have always had an ALL-OR-NOTHING mentality throughout my life..... only where weight loss, dieting, and exercise was concerned. Thus, I had never been able to MAINTAIN a weight loss. As soon as I would lose, and hit my first plateau, I would start to gain. But, my decision to give up daily and weekly weigh-ins has changed me. I don't see the stalls or plateaus as much, so I don't throw in the towel, so to speak. It was very liberating for ME. Plateaus in the past, would put me over the edge, and in the end, always resulted in weight GAIN, because I couldn't handle them. Enjoyed your article. It made me realize again that the road to weight loss and getting fit is NOT a straight path, but a road with twists, turns, and even plateaus along the way!

    My journey so far...

We have a lot in common.... I was born in '60 (okay, not exactly '62.... LOL). I was banded 7 months ago (okay, not 6..... LOL). It took me 6 fills to hit the GREEN ( okay, that's in common). I'm losing an average of eight pounds a month too. So, a few things in common. Happy for you!

John Pinette (comedian) dies at 50

Lambeautiful, I understand about the weight creeping back off. As I've stated in numerous other posts, I've been an expert DIETER, not just an expert MAINTAINOR. That was what was most appealing to me about having WLS. It would help with MAINTENANCE. Best wishes to you on your weight loss journey and on your future operation!

In need of a buddy :)

Just checking in to see how you are doing Julie. Hope your continuing on your journey in a positive way. I'm back to the doctor's on Tuesday for my monthly check-up. Fingers crossed on the weight loss for this month. I do not want another fill, as I feel I am definitely in my SWEET SPOT. Best Wishes. TAMMIE

    feel irritated

Yep, it took 6 fills in six and a half months to hit the SWEET SPOT. Lost weight all along, but I exercised daily, cut out most carbs, and limited myself in portion. The band did help with portion sizes, meaning I could not eat a plate of food and SECONDS, but, I still felt like I was trying to control portion sizes. With each monthly fill, I felt the band helping more and more...... But, I truly didn't hit the SWEET SPOT until 7 months out!

    change in restriction

I've had a change in restriction up to two to three weeks after two of my last three fills. Felt restriction, then seemingly, out of nowhere, I did not have the same restriction. I think I might be good for now bc it's been four weeks with the same restriction...... But who knows? Best Wishes!

    1 Month Before getting Banded!

One month from today..... Good for you! The pre-op diet will hopefully be one of the last few diets you will ever be on, because your post op liquid/mushy diet will probably be your last. Then, your band will eventually help you with restricting the quantity of food you can eat. Took me 6 1/2 months of fills to hit my SWEET SPOT, but boy.......it is ever so SWEET! Best Wishes!

    Breakfast ideas?

I don't eat breakfast.... I drink two cups of coffee every morning, and then I have a "late" breakfast of a protein shape after I come back from the gym around 11:30-11:45. My doc told me that the majority of his band patients can't eat breakfast in the morning!

Bandista, I'm going to the Big Apple April 23-28. I already told GoWalking I'd like to meet her there for coffee. You are another person I'd live to have coffee with!

    Support Yourself!

I needed to read this..... Thanks. For years I called myself "the FAT girl," I referred to a women's clothing store where I shopped as "Dress Barn for COWS," I hung "FAT" pictures on the refrigerator instead of finding the one or two pictures taken when I was at a decent weight. Belittling myself day after day..... But I have recently been looking in the mirror and admiring myself. I looked at my wrists this morning (yes, kind of weird, but my wrists) and thought how I haven't seen them this thin in decades. I mentioned in another post how I had seen my butt in a mirror unexpectedly, and didn't realize it was MY BUTT. You are 100% right..... Positive affirmations are in HEALTHYNEWME's life NOW!!!!!! Thanks again!

I'm in New Orleans, but Baton Rouge would be doable for me on occasion. I'm interested.

    Restriction no more

It took me six or seven fills to find my SWEET SPOT. After both the fourth and fifth fill, I thought I had found it, since I felt pretty good restriction. Unfortunately, both of those fills only gave me good restriction for two weeks, then all of a sudden, that feeling went away. I almost expected to experience this with my last fill.... But, I'm going on a month and still feel the restriction...... Thus, THE SWEET SPOT. I'm going back for my monthly visit this coming Tuesday. I don't even want a tweek. I think I'm good to go. So to answer your question, I think it's normal to lose that restrictive feeling a few days or even weeks after a fill.
