It took me over 20 yrs to get the way I was before I had wls. I know that I can't undo the weight overnight. I am happy with my progress thus far. I have 40 pounds to go. When you think of it that way, it's not that slow.

How much? How long?
jamilyne 102668 replied to goosarr_sez's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am not at goal weight yet, I've lost 60 pounds since Sept 2013. I think most people takes about a year (maybe less). -
Anyone else doing well with weight loss but scared to death you'll screw it all up
jamilyne 102668 replied to BrantS1976's topic in Rants & Raves
I think about this all the time - I feel like I could fail at a moments notice because I've done it so many times before! -
I'm with RJ - I hope that maybe you can be the one to be a little more sensitive with regard to health care professionals. You've been through it and you have that voice that can help someone else. Trust me, it doesn't do any good for a doctor to keep harping about the fact that you have to lose weight. When a doctor made me feel like crap about it - guess what - I didn't go back. I knew that I was obese, but what I was doing didn't work and I had to have wls to overcome my obesity.

I cried for an obese man
jamilyne 102668 replied to BariatricGirl's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
This past summer I had a massage therapist tell me that the problems that I was having with my shoulders/back was because of my extra weight and that I should consider losing weight. Needless to say, I cried all day & never went back. I was humiliated to begin with, but it hurt my feelings so bad - because he had no idea how much I wanted the weight off and I was upset by the fact that he made sound like I didn't know I was fat & needed to lose weight. I knew I was fat & I was mortified. I was thinking that maybe only a physician could get away with talking to someone about wls, but the patient probably wouldn't go back. -
Used to love subway! I used to get a foot long club. I have gotten their soup - it's super good if you are in a bind

You look great! Can definitely tell in your face! Amazing!

I paid $9000 for my surgery as self-pay. That was for everything. My ins didn't cover wls. Had my surgery in south Florida.

Friend - everyone is allowed to have these days! I promise if you go and buy just one outfit - A pair of pants, a shirt and a pair of shoes that actually fit, you will feel better. I work at a law firm and I have to dress up. I just had to buy some things for work. I was my old size for over 10 yrs, so I need everything! Nothing at all fits (underwear, bras, pjs, dress clothes, work out clothes, casual things). I didn't have anything really that was smaller than I was. Maybe you can look into a consignment shop for your old clothes & shoes, and maybe also for some clothes to get you by. I have about 3-4 pairs of pants that I rotate too & it sucks. I also want to lose more weight so I'm trying not to spend a lot of $,but I have bought some new things. Trust me, just buy one outfit that fits - it will make you feel so good! Today is the first day of spring & I know that the weather has lots to do with it too wishing you a better day today

That is so amazing! I told the girls at work that if I get to a size 8 I'm going to "mistakenly" wear my clothes inside out! I couldn't even dream of being a 4! So happy for you!

And - yes, we all are here to answer any questions you may have - or just for support! Wishing you the BEST! -
Oh, THAT'S Why
jamilyne 102668 replied to JustWatchMe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My weight fluctuates still, depending on when I drank Water, ate, or whatever. I am completely obsessed with my scale and that's my fault. I am trying not to be, but I still am. Just give it some time, it will start coming off. Just do as you are suppose to and remember your Protein and you should lose weight. Wls is not magic - I wish it were (lol). You are going to be great! Just be patient (and yes, I am talking to myself too). -
I cried for an obese man
jamilyne 102668 replied to BariatricGirl's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
My husband and I recently met a couple. The gentleman is in his late 60s and weighs over 500 pounds. He can barely get around. He spends his days in an armchair and then struggles to get into his electric wheelchair. I was over there the other day and I see some Protein shakes on their counter and I asked if I could look at the bottle (because I'm nosey about anything protein-lol). I confided in her that I had wls and she said - so did Frank. I couldn't believe it. He had surgery in August of this year and has lost over 80 pounds. Wls for most of us just clicked that we were becoming overweight, had some health issues, and we were tired of being on this "roller coaster". Wls for others is truly a life-saving surgery, like it was for Frank. I have such sympathy for anyone overweight and I completely feel their pain. -
Had the baby 4.5 weeks early!
jamilyne 102668 replied to Suzyfit's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
Awe so sweet! I agree with everyone about you breast feeding - just take it easy with your little guy and try to make healthy choices. You are burning a lot of calories breast feeding. Once he gets a little older than you can get back with the fills. Just enjoy your baby- forget about the other stuff it will work itself out! Congrats! -
Is it me or some of those around me who's attitude has changed?
jamilyne 102668 replied to PrettyThick1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't think you are imagining it. I think that you probably are more confident and they probably feel threatened. You earned this - good for you. You know there are gonna be haters (lol). You just have to do the best as you can and move on. -
Please Help! Urgent
jamilyne 102668 replied to Wink's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I agree with all the above. In addition, when you work out more than you are used to you will also gain more muscle and it might now show right away on the scales. Can you see the difference in your clothes? Have you lost any inches? If you are, everything else will catch up eventually. I know its frustrating. -
She's probably scared to lose you because she just lost her father. Please don't take it personally, she's just upset and taking it out on you. You do what you think is best for you, she'll come around don't be sad

I did what Music said - I made an appointment with the trainer & he told me what I should or should not do. The trainer at my gym had worked with wls patients before and he was super nice. I started on the treadmill just walking - and then you can work yourself up. Whatever you feel comfortable with. And go slow like others have said, take your time ... you are gonna do great! ** I was very very out of shape (lol)

Hi ej - I was banded on 9/13/13. I am doing good - it looks like you are doing great!

What do you think - body image?
jamilyne 102668 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am at my 60 pound loss now (banded 9/13/13). I did not exercise before my surgery, I was sedentary and I have a desk job. After I was cleared for exercise from my doctor, I have been working my way up with my exercise. I work out about 3 days a week at the gym and I walk alot more now. The body image part - I seem to be losing weight in my legs, thighs and butt area quicker than my stomach. I carried alot of weight in my stomach. I know that we have discussed this on different threads before, but what do you think of your body after losing weight?
