    NEWLY BANDED 9/13/13!

I'm on mushy food for 2 more days. Today for breakfast I had a pkg of plain oatmeal, then about 2-1/2 hours later I had a little pkg of hummus then a couple of hours after that I had a cup of split pea soup, then I had a sugar free fat free pudding, then for supper tuna with a little light mayo - total of about 750 calories day. I eat just a little several times a day. I use the "my fitness pal" to figure out my protein and calories. My doctor gave me a sample menu and I'm trying to stick to it.

    My big "FAT" rant.

I am so sorry for all of the pain that you have gone through. I've had doctors tell me things too and make comments. During the summer I was having a terrible time with my neck and shoulders and was in so much pain. I decided to go to a Massage therapist who told me that my problem was my weight and that I needed to lose weight. I was crying as he gave me the massage because I felt so bad that I had gotten so overweight and I was embarrassed. I cried the whole day after that. It was like he was telling me something I didn't already know - like I had no idea that I was overweight. It still makes me cry. Well I got my lapband on 9/13 and I've lost 18 pounds. I don't want to go through the next half of my life being overweight. I knew I had to change because what I was doing wasn't working. Reduce my calories and try to eat healthy then I was starving and binged, tried nutrisystem, weight watchers, the shaker crap, pills, everything. Lapband was my only hope and I'm so happy that I've been able to get it done! My health insurance does not cover weight loss surgery and my husband's employer actually has a rider on the policy forbidding any kind of weight loss surgery. I had to go to a plastic surgery clinic and pay cash. Most places do offer payment plans and usually they are decent payments too. My advise to you is to try it. You can do research, look on this website, talk to your doctors and just see. I understand that it is expensive and it might be hard to swing it. My calorie intake has been so much less and my part of the grocery bill has decreased. I pack up my lunch and Breakfast for work (no eating out for lunch) and I've gone out to eat with my husband and can just get sides (like scrambled egg or soup). I wish you the very best of luck and I am so sorry for the nastiness that you have endured. It's really sad the way people treat others.

    Am I doing something wrong?

I had surgery on 9/13 and I'm doing ok, but I'm not myself either yet- don't feel too bad - I think it does take time for your body to adjust. I still get tired at the end of the day! I'm still trying to figure all this out also & this site and these people have helped me - I don't know anyone personally who has had lapband surgery.

    Just Got Back from Hospital

Hope you feel better soon! Glad you are home from hospital and you were able to get the care that you needed - thank goodness you went when you did! Lots of luck to you
  15. That was my problem. Before the band if I ever started a diet I would drastically reduce my calorie intake and then I would be starving all the time, which would lead me to binge because I was hungry all the time. Since I have had lapband (since 9/13) that urge to eat had gone away. That is what keeps me losing weight because the band keeps me satisfied with what I do eat. I've lost 18 pounds.

My port is about 2 inches above my belly button - so far it hadn't bothered me at all.

    Any other September 2013 bandsters?

Congrats to everyone that just got banded. My surgery was on 9/13. I'm on day 15 (mushy) diet. I'm doing pretty good - I've lost 18 pounds. My hardest things are not eating & drinking and I've gotten myself on a schedule to avoid it. Sometimes chicken or tuna can be dry and that's not good, but that's only happened to me 2 times. It just feels like it's hard going down. All and all I'm doing very well - adjusting and trying my best to stay on track. I have a husband and kids that I have to feed and it's been a little hard cooking for them, but I try to have some easy meals for me so I can prepare mine with theirs. I'm happy for everyone - it seems all of you are doing so well!
  20. I was on the liquid diet from day 3 to 10. From days 10 to 20 mushy diet. That's what I'm on now. I wasn't really hungry the first few days anyways and I think that was a clear liquid diet. Warm broth made me feel satisfied and I think it helped me. I was happy with the staff there. I've had to ask questions along the way and they seemed like they cared. They have a nutritionist that I called a couple times - she was ok - she was a little frustrated with me. I've done ok with eating lately. I just eat really slow and not that much. I haven't really craved much. I'm probably eating about 700 calories a day and I'm full. Trying to get Protein as much as I can. Good luck and I hope everything goes well for you - the first few days are a little rough but it goes get better
  21. I hope that you get the medical attention that you need and heal quickly. I'm very sorry that you've had so many medical problems. I'm sorry You were the small percentage that they warn us all about when getting the band.

Good luck ! You are going to do great! I wish you a speedy recovery!
  24. My road home was not so good because I was still waking up from the anesthesia. My husband had to stop 2 x on the way home but once I got home I went right to bed and when I woke up I was much better. Chewing on Ice was best for me that first day. It was better than drinking the Water, but that just might be a preference. I wasn't in a lot of pain (he does send you home with pain medicine & antibiotics). I did have to take pain medicine the first 2 days, but then I tried to only take 1 at night, which I did need for about the next 3 more days. I haven't needed it since. The people there were nice. My surgery was 9/13 and I've lost 17 pounds. I had my surgery on a Friday and I went to work on Tuesday. I was going to go back Monday but I wasn't ready. I have a desk job though, but I ride the Metrorail to downtown Miami and I have to walk to my work from the station and I actually was ok on Tuesday. Tired when I got home but I've done fine. I wish you the best of luck! # Piece of advise: Get the gas-x strips before the surgery (you are allowed to have them). On the discharge slip it says baby gas medicine which I bought for $10.00! Then the nurse told me I could have the gas-x strips and they are like $6.00 and work better!
  25. Hi Florida joe : what to expect the day of surgery - the first thing they do is weigh you and the nurses go over your chart with you regarding your medical history. Then you change into hospital gown and they give you a stretcher-like bed. Your family can't go back at that point (which was a little hard for me & my husband). Then the nurse starts an IV. They start giving you medicine (antibiotics, fluids, some anti-nausea medicine & some other stomach medicine). They give you a shot of blood clotting medication in your upper thigh. Dr. Choi will stop by and see how you are doing and he'll ask about your medical history again but he will ask you to tell him everything over ( which I thought was good). Then the anestologist stops by ( he is super super nice) and he will go over your medical history. He will tell you what to expect during surgery. Then they wheel you back to surgery. After surgery is over you will wake up around the same place you were before they wheeled you back and you'll start waking up. They will get you to drink something and help you up. But you are out of there in like 3-4 hours. They will take you by wheelchair to your car. That's it!
