The lapband can be filled with a needle in a port to help constrict the upper part of your stomach to help restrict your food content. The fills really don't hurt. it's maintenance that has to be done when you have lapband. There is a time when fills aren't as necessary, but I haven't gotten to that point yet. It's just another type of wls. It's all in what's best for you - but as long as you are successful and lose weight, it doesn't really matter which one you have to go for good luck -

Just my 2 cents- a lot of people that are obese it's because of addiction. (I understand that some obese people have medical conditions that can make you overweight) I have an addiction to food and I am an emotional eater. Having any weight loss surgery can help control the eating and the amounts, but the struggle in your head is a different story. I think that some people have this struggle more than others. Anytime there is a big stress in my life - I have to worry about my food intake. People can fail from wls because of addiction - it's just like someone who struggles with alcohol or pills. •• I'm not saying that it's not possible to overcome it, I'm just saying that the "head hunger" and the actual emotional eating can affect others differently. -

Well I'm happy that you have decided to have lapband surgery. It has made my life a lot better! Surgery in itself has changed a lot since 1979! I think your "friend" is just bitter because wls didn't work, and that doesn't mean it can't work for you! You honestly need to make this decision. There will be people that have crappy things to say, but in the end you are making a decision to change the quality of your life. -

Good luck on your surgery. I had lapband surgery in 9/13/13 and I'm down around 40 pounds! I still have a ways to go, but I've been doing really well! I'm so happy that you've made the decision! You will have a very good year coming up! Congrats! -

You all can add me - I'm jamilyne102668. I use it religiously all day every day. It's also helped me from making bad choices! I've been banded since 9/13/13. I started out at 242-244 and now I'm 203. I still have a ways to go, but I'm making progress. I've been slow with my weight loss for the past month, but it's still coming off. I've only had 1 fill and I was holding back until I absolutely needed it & I think I do now. I will get one at 1st of the year. -

Congrats on your weight loss, but I am so sorry to hear of your sister's passing. I will pray that you will find strength. We had a death in our family too. My husbands cousin died suddenly (she was 31) in her sleep. She was buried on Christmas Eve. I am also an emotional eater and I totally get the brownie with all the extras!!!! But it sounds like you have a little more control than you think. It is going to be rough going for awhile, but time heals (even though it's so slow)!!! I'm so very sorry about what you have been through! -

Yes, you are right. There's a stigma with being overweight. One of the things that pushed me over the edge and made me decide to do this - was during the summer my husband worked out of state and me & the kids went to visit and he introduced me to a guy that he was working with - I was so embarrassed. I felt I looked terrible. My husband never said a word about me being overweight. So - this story does have an NSV - since I have lost almost 40 pounds he comments on me every single day about how good I look! -
How Long Have You Been Banded And If No Longer Banded Why Not
jamilyne 102668 replied to Pablo's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Banded on 9/13/13 - roughly 3 months. Almost 40 pounds lost - only 1 fill. Best thing I have ever done! I have had no band related issues! Have about 50 pounds to get to goal weight of 150. I have to exercise and I do eat well 99% of the time! If you are contemplating surgery and that is why you are asking - you do have to work at this. It's not an easy fix, but if you do what you are supposed to do - the band will work with you. This site helps tremendously because you get some support. I didn't know anyone who had lapband surgery before me. Everyone here has helped guide me through this process. You still have to eat and you have to gain mental stability and control or you can make bad choices. The new way of eating takes some effort and you have to plan your meals, but it is a new way of life for me and I have accepted that. I was morbidly obese and I do not want to be that person ever again! -

I bought size 16 pants!! I thought I was pushing it - they fit perfectly. Went from a 22 to a 16 in 3 months (almost 40 pounds)! I could have never done this on my own. -
I got mine from Cracker Barrel last year. I just wanted something different. Thanks for the compliment
