Pain meds after surgery ?
jamilyne 102668 replied to Nevermind's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Oh, and they do give you pain medicine and it is uncomfortable for about the first week or so, but it's manageable. I started working 4 days after surgery. Some people need a little longer - some do not. -
Pain meds after surgery ?
jamilyne 102668 replied to Nevermind's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I was self pay also and personally, I would go with the doctor in Florida as opposed to the dr in Mexico. (Just my 2 cents). I also live in Florida, The healthcare here is much better and more safe than in Mexico. I have seen people on this site who have gone to Mexico and they've had problems. It was also hard for them to find a doctor to do fills and follow up care. I've also heard that they use bands that are outdated. You can do a search on this website - type in Surgery in Mexico or something like that and you should get threads speaking about this very subject. I'm not saying you wouldn't be alright if you did decide to do the surgery over there, it's just not worth it in case you do have problems. Usually doctors have payment plans and will work with self-pay patients. There's alot of aftercare with having the band that you really need to consider. I wish you luck in whatever you choose! Take care & keep us posted -
Loved your post! You are doing great! Don't let someone or a freakin BMI calculation define you! You are doing wonderful and I am so happy for you! Congrats!!!!!

Has anyone ever NOT lost weight?
jamilyne 102668 replied to cutlass6521's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I first started out I was really scared because my insurance company didn't cover the procedure and I had to pay for it on my own. It was a lot of money, but I felt that I needed to do something because my weight was getting out of control and nothing that i was doing was working. I get that you are nervous because like others have said, you think it's just one more thing. This is not a cure-all or anything, you still have to work at it and make good choices & sometimes deal with your internal "demons." Personally, I am very happy with my decision to have weight loss surgery & I am 1/2 way to my goal at just under 4 months. I had 98 pounds to lose at my first doctor's appointment. Just think positive, and do everything your doctor tells you& you should be just fine! I wish you the best of luck! Keep us posted -
That is so funny!

Mushies stage, did anyone have baby food?
jamilyne 102668 replied to desertpixie's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I chose not to do baby food. I put my food in a blender and you get the flavor of real food / the texture changes a bit, but it was good. -

I unfortunately have the "fat gene" as well as just having an addiction to food. All of my mom's side of the family has dealt with obesity. Almost every single person! I know that some have said that food is not an addiction and maybe it's not for those special few - but I know it's an addiction for me in my life. If food is not an addiction, why can't you stop? Why can't you stop at an acceptable portion or reach a certain amount of calories? Why do you actually crave carbs & sweets? Why do you risk ridicule? The problem with food as an addiction is that you need it to survive. That's the hardest part - I think. Since I have had wls - I've lost a little over 40 pounds and have went from a 22w to a 16 regular in three months. I know that I could not have done this on my own, because I tried for many years to do it on my own - only to get fatter and fatter and more obese. Wls helps keep me in check, helps me to be full and feel full and for a longer period of time. I totally understand that everyone is different and everyone has their opinions & that's great because that's why we are all here, but I have an addiction to food & it sucks! But I'm overcoming it & trying my best!

I have another NSV relating to clothes & sizes - yesterday I go (with my husband) to Dress Barn. I was looking for skinny jeans (my 1st pair-lol). They have a plus side & a "regular" side. So I go over to the plus side and grab a 16 and I told the little girl working in there - I swear if these fit me I'm going to be balled up crying on the floor. I told her that I had wls recently and I've been losing weight & I don't know my size. Well They fit! And I come out of the dressing room and the little girl was like I think you can fit in the size 16 on the other side. So she goes over to the other side & sure enough all of the ones she picked out fit! My husband was saying "see you don't have to be on the "other side" anymore (meaning the PLUS size). So I got a pair of skinny jeans in a regular 16!!! I used to wear a 22W - 3 months ago! I got so emotional. Recently the office manager was talking to me about my body changing. I told her that I was still overweight and that I needed to lose more weight. She said "you aren't seeing yourself like everyone else sees you, you honestly look like you've lost half of what you were." Well - right now I still see myself as being that overweight person because I was her for so long. I'm still trying to wrap my head around it. I'm happy and this is what I want more than anything, but I think that my mind is my old size and my body has changed but my mind doesn't know it yet? I can't be the only one that feels this way. Sorry - ranting... -

Awakening the Beast Inside
jamilyne 102668 replied to Leepers's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sorry I hijacked your thread earlier - whenever I'm starving I eat some egg whites with a little cheddar cheese. It's low in calories and it fills me up. Sometimes when you start eating real food all those emotions start coming up that associate yourself with food. Just make sure you are eating enough Protein and drinking plenty of Water - that will help also! I wish you the best of luck ! It will get better promise! -
