    Question....

When I had my first appointment, the doctor looked at my incisions, weighed me and asked me how I was feeling. Just a quick doctor appointment - no big deal

    Food(s) you thought you loved...

I have eaten hummus just fine - I think that I could get carried away with it because I need to eat like crackers or something with it - just not out of those little single serve packages. Applebees has a 500 calorie and under menu and its pretty good. 500 calories is a lot - but I only eat half of the serving and save the other half - so its 250 calories, which is better. Are you on my fitness pal? On my fitness pal you log in your food and it calculates your calories. It might help you - I've also added the food in just to see how many calories before I eat it - so you could log your Applebees Green Goddess salad on there and see how many calories it is and then you can decide whether or not its worth it - or maybe you can just have half. I would suggest having a diary for your daily intake of calories, at least at first. I had no idea how many calories I was consuming until I started logging my food on my fitness pal app. I hope that helps

    What About Your Friends?

Well it's ok - we all still talk and we do things occasionally but it's changed. They are both overweight and our relationship has changed and I think it's because of my surgery & my weight loss. But, I've asked them if something was wrong & they say no - so I don't know. My husband and I also are trying to buy a house and my brother was being very negative about it. So - I don't think it's me. My brother called me while we were at the realtors office and he asked me what I was doing and I told him then he called me later that night to ask me more about the house and he was being very negative and he didn't seem happy at all for me and I wasn't flaunting the fact that I was buying a house & I haven't flaunted the fact that I've lost weight - they are both just very negative about anything good that I do for myself. So - I can't do anything about it & I am nice to them and would do anything for them I just can't talk about anything good that's happening for me - sad

    Share Your NSVs Here Please!

I have to take my engagement ring off - it's too big to wear. I'm going to have to get it sized because I'm afraid I'm going to lose it. I'm a little sad, but it's an NSV!

    Embarrassingly clueless to working out!

I was very sedentary! So after my surgery I walked a lot and as I lost weight my mobility and knees got better. I joined a gym and I started out on the treadmill, I've slowly moved onto the elliptical and the bike. I still don't exercise like some on here - but I'm up to almost 2 miles on the treadmill! I try to go about 2 to 3 days a week & I need to do more, but I've come a long way

How much money do you save on food?

I've saved a lot of money because I used to order food at work for breakfast & lunch. I hardly ever order out for work anymore. If I do - I will get a veggie egg white omelet and eat it for breakfast & lunch. I prepare my food for work every day! I buy the bags of frozen chicken breasts and I eat one for dinner. I can never finish a meal if my family goes out to dinner and I almost always bring 1/2 home or split with my kids
  9. Banderella - I received a personal message from a new member who was replying to this thread! She's going through with the surgery despite what you've mentioned, she's just not coming on here anymore until after her surgery. I understand that you've had problems and was sick from the band and I get that! But we are all trying to bring each other up on here! Just because the surgery didn't work for you doesn't mean that it's not going to work for someone else! We all try to support each other - we really do - now this nice lady is going to go through the surgery and is going to stay away from this site that would have encouraged her decision and helped her along the way - so now she's just going to be on her own. It's really sad! I'm not saying that you don't have your opinion about the lapband and all it's failures, you do we all have a right to whatever opinion that you choose! However, Almost all of us have sought the advise of a physician that has recommended this procedure to us, they give us the risks of this surgery and the risks for me from my physician was very very low. The advantages far outweighed the risks. That is plain and simple - no research or gimmicks!

    What About Your Friends?

I had a problem with my brother & sister-in law. I used to do things with them all the time and then things changed after I had wls. We are all still nice to each other when we do see each other but it's changed dramatically. I was upset for awhile about it but they never mention my weight loss and I don't talk about it either, but my parents comment about me when I'm with them - but they say nothing. I've lost 56 pounds in a few months and they don't comment - I would have been happy for either of them / but that's how it goes! I think they are a little jealous but I don't go around and talk about it alot or anything! Just wanted you to know that it's not just you going through this / and I believe it's happened a lot to different people on here. It's real sad because jealousy is the big green monster! Why can't people just be happy with other people's accomplishments? But they can't!

    Self Sabotage...WTH?

I say - enjoy that ice cream!
  24. Those rulers underneath are called "tickers". I had to go back so I could tell you how to do it. Go to your profile - go to settings and then to tickers (right underneath theres a group of tabs and you should see one that says tickers). There's different ones that you can choose from. I tried everything too - I really did and I was afraid I was going to fail also (I'm still afraid of it because I've done it so many times). I was a grazer, a binger, and I just overall LOVE food. The lapband helps control the amount. It doesn't control your head though - so you may still have cravings (called head hunger). For me that's my addiction talking - because I was/am addicted to food & that's why I was overweight. You are gonna be OK - you'll see - head up & think about the future! You will get the hang of everything & you have us on here to turn to. If you ever want to look something up - there's a search section right above - if you have a question there was probably a thread (conversation) made by someone on here to help you out also.
  25. Most important thing I forgot to add is - I have no regrets whatsoever about my choice! I wish I would have done it sooner, but to be honest I don't think that I was ready. Like others have said, its not a cure-all, but let me tell you I've tried everything to lose weight- and I am making life-style changes and losing weight. The main thing for me is - I would get on all these diets and do ok, but I would be hungry all the time. The hunger led to binging - which led me to be obese. Now - I'm not hungry and I eat ALOT less food - that's what makes it different! It helps control the amount of food that I am putting in - and its my job to make sure the food that I put in my body is good for me (lots of Protein and fruits/veg). Good luck
