Question about the constipation post surgery...
mylapspirit replied to blahblahblah's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I take two Colace at bedtime and then have results in the morning. None of the symptoms that you described have I experienced. Now that I am on soft foods and eat whole grain cereal for breakfast and fork tender vegetables things are moving better. I hope it works for you. shelli:ranger: -

Hi Blueguy, Sorry to hear that you are having so many problems. Have you tried giving up bread with your meals? Our nutritionist says that some people just can't tolerate bread with the band because it is do doughy and gets stuck - kind of turns to paste inside. Also, our doctor says if you are having pain drop your food amounts by a few tablespoons for example instead of 1/2 cup tuna try just 1/4 cup tuna, etc. Good Luck to you and I hope you feel better soon. shelli:girl_hug:

Oh so sorry to hear about the Grits. I was raised in my early years in Georgia and love love grits but don't eat them anymore unless I am travelling down South. I suprised they get "hung up". Take Care Nana, shelli:girl_hug:

Yes, I had my lapband surgery on 8/27/07. Lost 51 lbs. in 5 weeks. Then I had my first gallbladder attack and my lap surgeon had to remove my gallbladder on 10/1/07. Two major surgeries in 5 weeks. I am almost healed and ready to roll and not even two weeks out from the gallbladder surgery. Definitely Sucks! But now things are looking better! Rapid Weight Loss was the cause but doc said I would have lost it 6 months down the road anyway.

So I know that this is on the food board...
mylapspirit replied to mehean's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Well the day that all this started I was down 51 pounds. When they put me in the hospital they of course started putting all sorts of fluids in me so when I got out of the hospital I was up 5 pounds and only have 1 more of that five to lose and then go further. I existed mainly on liquids at the hospital so I was surprised to see the weight gain. Isn't it neat that you can have solids again? Chew chew chew. Do you have a fill yet? Take care Candle, shelli:ranger: -

Hi Candle, You should bake the squash at about 350 or 375 degrees. Check to see if it is done in about an hour. I can't remember if I cover it with foil or not. About the gallbladder - I had my first attack on a Wednesday. I actually threw up some bile and thought that my symptoms were that maybe the band had slipped. I suffered all day and nite Thursday and Friday. I even took my lap band Lortabs that I had leftover. Saturday I was still having severe pain so I decided to call my doctor and he was on call and told me to get right into the ER and they would do an upper GI. Well our hospital does not do upper GI's on the weekend. So they did a Cat Scan and Blood Work. My liver enzymes were triple what they should be and I had lots of little stones and the gallbladder was inflamed so they admited me Saturday, put me on IV antibiotics Sunday and surgery was scheduled for Monday morning. Sunday they ran all sorts of tests - sonogram, cardiac enzyme blood work to see if I had a heart attack, hepatitis B blood tests, chest xray, I was in tears and very very scared. My lap surgeon removed the gallbladder and then I had a complication and was in surgery for 5 hours. He did laparascopically but had to make the decision to switch to an open procedure but he didn't he just tried to clean out the bile duct with his scope etc. Well now my liver enzymes are still elevated and in two weeks I have to go have an endoscopic procedure to remove any remaining stones that are stuck in the bile duct. My surgeon wants me to be healed inside from the gallbladder surgery before they shoot die into the area again. I am so scared but I know I will get thru this and just have to be patient. I am so glad to hear that you are doing so well. Are you on soft foods now or solids? Keep on going and have a great time in sunny Floriday. Take care, shelli:ranger: -
Do you have a good recipe for beans? I know they are excellent for you. shelli:ranger:

Hi Candle, So good to hear from you! I have been on another adventure. On October 1 I had to have emergency surgery to remove my gallbladder. My lapband surgeon did the procedure and things are going a little better but I might have to go and have another procedure in a couple of weeks. That being said How are you doing? Now about Spaghetti Squash. It is pretty good. To bake it you slice it in half and put it inside down in a baking pan. Put Water in the bottom about half an inch and bake until tender. I think I baked it for about an hour and a half. When done scrape from shell with a fork and it will come out like noodles. Top with your favorite sauce and lowfat cheese and it will taste pretty good. Let me know how you are doing Candle - I miss hearing from you. shelli:ranger: -

Hi Judy, Last night I got something stuck and I thought I was going to die. I got this severe pain in my back, then got nauseous, then broke out in sweats, then dizzy. I remembered reading on the site to drink pineapple juice so I ran to the pantry, drained a can of pineapple juice and drank a couple of sips. I then vomited up the pinapple juice and immediately felt better. I then had to lay down and today my abdomen is very tender and I am only drinking liquids until I feel better. I hope this never happens again. I was all alone and felt like I was going to pass out. I am going to stock up on those little cans of pinapple juice and pray I never eat too fast or too much again. How long did your episode last? i hope you feel better today. shelli:ranger: -

Hi Mehean, Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. The recipe for the casserole is as follows: 1 medium sized spaghetti squash, baked, and then scraped out of the shell 1 container low fat ricotta cheese 1 small jar Paul Newman Spaghetti Sauce(can use homemade too) 2 T. grated parmesan cheese Spread a little red sauce in bottom of 8 x 8 casserole. Press in cooked spaghetti squash in bottom of casserole. Spread a little more red sauce over squash. Spread the ricotta cheese over the squash Top with more red sauce. Sprinkle with parmesan cheese. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes or until hot and bubbly. Enjoy. 1/2 cup equals about 70 calories. Very cheesy and very satisfying! shelli:ranger: -
how long did you have to take off
mylapspirit replied to Saintluver's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It took me about 21/2 weeks to feel like my old self again. I only had pain for about two days but so very very tired. shelli:ranger: -
Judy, did you know just 1/4 cup tunafist has 15 grams of protein. I usually have 1/2 cup for lunch so that is 30 grams of protein right there. shelli:ranger:

Did you have any complications in surgery?
mylapspirit replied to mandi78's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Christine, according to your ticker you got banded in August this year and you already lost 149 pounds????? Is that really correct? Did you lose alot of weight on your own before the surgery? Just curious. shelli -

Michelle, did you take your pain meds? We were told if the pain does not go away after taking the pain meds then call the surgeon immediately. This did not happen to me but I just wanted to reach out and help you. shelli:girl_hug: -

mylapspirit replied to mandi78's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi! I am 52 years young and had no complications - in fact many of the nurses said I did better than most of the younger girls that had it done. I did stay overnight because I didn't get out of recovery until about six thirty but as soon as I got back to my room went for my walk around the halls. No nausea, no gas pains, only took pain meds for two days, it was an awesome experience. Good luck to you! Keep a good attitude and you will do fine! shelli :ranger: -
Congratulations on getting your new friend, your band. shelli:ranger:
