  1. Hello, I had an upper endoscopy done yesterday, and the doctor discovered a hiatal hernia. Does anyone know if a hiatal hernia can be repaired at the time of banding, or is it required it be done before? Thanks, Rod
  2. How are you feeling? Much pain?
  3. I heard from my doctor this evening. He said that my hernia is small and not a barrier to getting the surgery I want.
  4. Thank you. I wish you well!
  5. The group that does WLS in our area calls the surgeries -- no matter which one you chose -- a tool to lose weight. They also tell you that you have approximately one year to use this "tool" to lose the weight and better your life. If you get back into old habits, your body will adjust to your lapband/sleeve/bypass and allow you to eat more food, and gain the weight back. I figure that if I'm going to pick a "tool" to help me lose weight over a year or more, I will pick the one that is least invasive. I don't like the modifications that are made with the other weight loss procedures. I just need something that will help me feel full and make it easier to stop eating. I know I'll have to be conscious of what I'm eating and how much. I just need help with satisfying hunger with less food.
  6. Wow! Quite the story. Glad you stuck to your choice!
  7. Thanks! I will do that for sure! The other options don't sound good at all to me. I certainly wouldn't condemn others for having those procedures, but I really don't want either one for myself.
  8. Thanks for the info! I appreciate it. When I was in to see the doctor to sign off on the upper endoscopy, he mentioned the possibility of a hiatal hernia. He said they may recommend the gastric sleeve, if they found the hernia. I'd rather go with the band. I'm hoping he's still open to do the lapband surgery. I was kind of bummed that I didn't get to talk to him after the procedure yesterday.
