    Labs 3 years out

So, at my last check up, my bariatric nurse told me that things change year to year for us post op. Even as far out as 4 or 5 years. She said that people dont realize that your body changes abd is still leveling off and settling in where it wants that far out. My preal level was low like yours and my bariatric dr told me I needed to eat more whole food...that I was getting too much Protein supplements in my diet. But my brother in law doctor told me that many of the blood tests they use to measure nutrition are out of date and to take it all with a grain of salt. He said any recent antibiotics courses can affect it all and give false lows in those older tests. Like you, I feel my nutrition now is better than ever. I eat 3 small meals, 2 shake Snacks and 1 food snack. No sugar and next to no processed carbs. Good luck to getting some answers!
  2. My pre op diet was the same as yours...except it was 16 days long. My liver was pretty crazy in size with lots of little arms coming out of it...so I had to do my pre op diet a lot longer. I took a ton of hot baths during dinner time at the beginning....if I was stuck in the tub I wouldn't think about the food as much. Once I hit day 4 or 5, I was better fkr sure. The first 3 or 4 days your body is detoxing from all the sugar, flour and processed foods. Day 4 or 5 you'll most likely turn a corner. Water up as much as you can and do what pdxman said...get out and move. It'll naturally make your body feel better. We've almost all felt the same way...many have walked before you..and were all pulling for you!

178!! Finally crossed into my long lost friend..the 170's!!
  4. All the info from the CDC is also based on the average normal person. If you've had any of the wls, your needs and guidelines ARE different. To the original poster...no, your body will only use so much at each sitting, and you'll find that the post op body processes everything different. Its proven that our systems are not able to fully process and use the nutrients we give it..(hence the need for the Calcium citrate versus calcium carbonate just for an example)
  5. Don't go over 100 grams of protein a day?! Many programs have their patients hit goals over 100g per day. That's not something anyone here should be advising anyone else on. Only a Dr/dietician/bariatric nurse should be handing out that sort of advice.

    Modern clothing sizes. WTF?

Yes. I saved all my skinny clothes in storage. I pulled them out. I fit into anywhere from a size 12-16 right now. I have all sizes from this range and things fit me better from the early 90's compared to today. Everything modern sits super low and it's not flattering for me as a mom. I prefer the 90's jeans and shorts for sure.

Super stalls around 7th month post op?

I'm 8 months out..and I do 3 food meals a day with 2 Snacks as Protein powder. Breakfast is almost always a Quest Protein Bar, lunch varies..but it's usually a veggie with something entree like. Each day it's different, so can't give types but the total amount never usually goes beyond a cup of food between the veggie and entree. dinner really varies too. Generally speaking, I don't go beyond 1 cup of food per meal. Regardless of what it is. Most of the time I only eat about 3/4 of a cup or less, because I pick the dense protein first, healthy fat next and then veggie. It's vague yes but we are all different and a few days out of the month I could eat way more than that if I wanted.

    Snack ideas

My dietician tells us that Snacks outside of the 3 meals should be a scoop of Protein powder. That said, if I stick to this then I don't get snacky. If I am not able to do that then my list in order is as follows... 1. Protein Powder 2. Quest Protein Bar 3. Nuts and cheese 4. Pretzels(4 max) and Peanut Butter or apple n pb. 5. Sliced strawberries n grapes

For those of you who are pre-op

I not on it and I still have my gallbladder. My program won't put someone on it long term unless you have a risk for it to come out.

    sleep study at home

I did mine at home. They told me that they really don't need much time on there....and not to worry about waking up with it out of my nose. I don't remember exactly how much time she said they needed I think she said they really only needed like an hour or less of deep sleep with it on..and it could and would be spliced together if need be.
  11. I had those at he beginning if I needed something and couldn't make a shake. However, their chalky and I just didn't like the taste. I do have Quest bars tho. The quest have much more Fiber in them and they don't affect the blood sugars like the pure bars do, at least for me anyways. I'm not diabetic at all, but I do struggle with hypoglycemia. GNC and Vitamin shoppe have the bars and you can buy just one bar to try them out first. I also have a few Lenny and Larry's muscle Protein brownies on hand too..those are reserved for cravings tho. The quest bars, I have a chocolate chip cookie dough bar each morning for breakfast.
  12. My dietician told me last time I saw her that having wls isn't just about losing the initial weight during the beginning honeymoon phase. She said that the body continues to change every 3 or so months...and it does this as far out as 3 years post op. She said that a lot of people will initially lose more than their body wants, naturally causing the body to regain to it's set point. What she said really put things into perspective for me..knowing now that I need to be vigilant for years to come helps me in so many ways. I fought to get this far, and each pound and each NSV is worth the years of diligence it will take to keep it all off. I'm grateful for the warning. Everything is all about choice. We have amazing tools in our bodies yes, but we still need to make the choice with each bite we take. No one can make the healthy choices for us. I really think that regain is just a normal part of the entire process. That said...the process, I believe doesn't end when we reach goal. It really it just beginning at that point...again, this part is just my own belief.

Super stalls around 7th month post op?

8 months out and I'm too stuck. Once 7 months hit..bam. stall. Its a head trip too. Just trying to stay the course and keep following the rules. Eventually things will resume when my body is ready. I see things shifting around tho..similarly to the very beginning of the post op phase. So if this is round 2 but the pokey version..I'll take it.

    4th of July Challenge

I'm in!! I decided to make a lofty goal and work my buns off! I have my 9 month check up the week after the last weigh in for this challenge and I really want to make it a great number they see. So...goal is 172..starting at 182.
  18. Im sure someone has made the suggestion, but in the off chance it hasn't yet...any chance we can get one? The post op forum in the main section is fine but it's full of the fresh post opers. If your 6 months but not quite the 12 months required to post in vets section, you tend to not have a place to find those that are in that range. Most have tried posting anyways in the post op but your voice gets largely ignored. I see some post in vets anyways but technically we aren't welcome there either. Gamergirl originally mentioned this in another thread somewhere...so credit goes to her.

    Therapist?

I do. I've had the same therapist for years now. She specializes in bariatric surgery and eating disorders. That said..im 7.5 months post op and have hit exactly the same spot as you. Suddenly feel so lost. I saw my dietician this week and I was given specific instructions to stop counting numbers. .calories/carbs/fat/protein etc. And just trust when I feel hungry. Harder to do for me than it sounds. She also told me to start going to the clinic led support group, she said I was at the point where a lot of people feel lost. This is why I think it would be great to have some sort of 6-12 month forum for us tweens as gamergirl put it on another thread. There seems to be a great deal of support for pre and fresh post op and the 1+year out vets but not us tweeners. I think thats where a lot of us fall off of here and begin to feel lost and alone.
  20. I'm finding this issue too. A forum for those that are between 6-12 months out would be great. I'm finding I am in need of support but don't really fit anywhere besides my surgery month/year forum but that's a dead spot. I don't come here much anymore because there aren't many that actively will post that are in the tweener stage as Gamergirl said.

    vitamin overload

My nurse told me calcium citrate is easier on the tummy versus calcium carbonate. Maybe look into this??
  22. Ok you guys. I feel so lost at this point. My dieticians won't give me any sort of guidance beyond eat 3 meals a day and no Snacks. I really need some help. What are all of you guys doing in terms of calories daily?
  23. Wow...I'd say thats quite a feat. For any of us to get to that point would be cause to stun us all for sure. I think a great job getting to this point are in order! You've worked hard to get where you are.

At least 6 times in 3 weeks!

Very well said. This could be me minus the complication. Its very strange and left me sort of puzzled. You summed it up for me perfectly.

Not sure about what im feeling

A month out I couldn't eat 2 oz of any dense Protein. It really may be that you ate too much. Remember, your sleeve may only just now be getting full feeling and sensation back from surgery. Things stay numb for quite a while. Try eating a little bit less dense protein or pair it with something wet..like a strawberry or few grapes or a condiment.
