New Here I Need Help With Sleeve Info Insurance Submitted Today
gomekast replied to BamaGirly37's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Happy to help! One lady I got a lot out of on YouTube was gastric sleeve diaries. It's a gal out of Boston and she's pretty real without being dramatic. She gives a lot of good info in all of her videos. -

Also, I want to add that a LOT of what I learned came from going to YouTube and typing in VSG. Using just that you'll get a ton of people that have made videos along their journey from pre op to several years post op. :-) -
New Here I Need Help With Sleeve Info Insurance Submitted Today

I too have been on both forums, due to the fact that I have not met yet with my surgeon. I've got PCOS, hypothyroidism, and now today I found out I've also got a thick left ventricle in my heart. So, needless to say I get that the surgeon will be the one making the choice for me. I started reading all I could here and have found great people and great information! I will say that this forum seems to be a lot more active compared to the rny, but that's just from what I've seen since end of June. You have a lot less complications, and the data at my hospital says that the weight loss is exactly the same as rny at 4 years post op. I bought the book "weight loss surgery for dummies 2nd edition" and my dr praised that book, saying its what they recommend. Good luck! -
My NUT recommended a fish oil that's lemon flavored and liquid today. She said to try Walgreens or amazon.

Can I ask if your in the mpls-st Paul area? I'm up in the north metro and have been going to Park Nicollet bariatric center. Their in St. Louis park at Methodist hospital. I've had nothing but good experiences there and I highly recommend them. I'm going tomorrow actually for the last of what my ins requires me to do for approval. :-) -

"My perfect self"...am I ready for this!?!
gomekast replied to ksprite0305's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't think that a little day dreaming about what our lives would be like post op means she's not ready for this. Anyone that comes to this decision has had a lot to take into consideration to get to this point. Some people cope with being silly, day dreaming or anything really. I cope with stress with a good laugh. I've had my kids, been threw my own version of hell to get here. I used to cope using food..now I use positive reinforcement with picturing myself thin. THAT gets me threw the bad moments. It's the right thing for me, but it's not appropriate for everyone. I go back tomorrow for final appts and I hope to leave with a date to meet my surgeon. :-) -

I also have my perfect outfit NAILED to my bedroom wall! It's on hangers of course, but I look at it each day. This past weekend I started out a sentence to my husband with.."when I'm hot next year..." You get the idea. He just smiled and looked at me and chuckled! -

I sooo do! But I have the kids now. I laughed and nodded yep to your post. It's exactly what I've been feeling and thinking for months now. I'd like to join you guys for that commercial jog ok?! -
It's part of the program that I am in. I think it varies from place to place. Wouldn't hurt to ask.

I am going to ask about the pain thing. I had a hysterectomy last year and had horrible post op pain. Don't want that again this time. I go back Wednesday morning and see Dr Demattia, physical therapy, and the NUT. It's the last of my requirements for ins. Hoping to be sleeved by Halloween if possible!
-
So, I got the results back and I've passed the sleep test! I did have 9 incidents per hour, but they said I do not have it and I passed! I go back this Wednesday and work with Dr Demattia again, and they an hour with physical therapy and hour with Jill, a dietician. I hope I'm cleared to proceed! I would love to be sleeved by Halloween!

Interesting to note that for some people, eating carbs and sugars will cause the headaches and blurred visions. I also know a lot of drs won't believe that. But last year my husband and I went on a juice fast, consuming only fresh juice from our breville juice fountain. Once we began eating carbs and sugars again following a week long fast, the headaches and blurred vision started. Now, if I start my day with anything but a protein shake, I get like that too.

Pre- pre-op diet
gomekast replied to readyforchange101013's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been doing the no water thing for a month now. Still tough to do that one. Been logging my food for years now, slowly making the changes needed. No fizzy drinks, but do still have coffee a few ones a week. Even do a breakfast protein shake every day. I've noticed that if I start the day with anything else but the shake, I feel like garbage. -
Pre- pre-op diet
gomekast replied to readyforchange101013's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Like you, I'm also hoping for an October surgery date. I've been reading all of the pre op diet threads today and sort of been on the fence about this very issue. I think once I get my date, and as long as the NUT and dr agree, I will just do my pre op diet a little longer. My psyc wasn't at all surprised to hear me say this either. She said its why she recommended the surgery for me..knowing that I'm 110% ready and head is in the game. -
I'm still pre op, but Have you talked to a therapist/psych about how you're feeling? It sounds like you've hit the dreaded depression post op that I've read about. It makes me sad to read how down you are on yourself. Get into some therapy to help manage all the change your going threw. Oh, I've been in therapy for 8 years now to work threw my food issues...once you find the right psyc, it's an amazing outlet to manage all of life's dirty socks that get thrown at you. Hugs to you honey!

EPIC FAIL ON THE PRE-OP DIET!
gomekast replied to READY4CHANGE2013's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My nurse said something the first time I met with her..."we will give you the tools to make this a success, you will have a team of dedicated people here to help you every step of the way..however...if YOU choose to eat the junk and not follow the plan, you will fail your tool. The pre op diet serves multiple purposes. If your not able to follow it, it may be an indication that your not 100% ready for this tool just yet. You'll fail your tool before the tool fails you!" This left a huge impression on me but also forced me to look at myself and really decide if I'm ready for the discipline that BigFrank speaks of. Next week I finish the final appts to submit to ins. I've never been so ready in my whole life, but I can safely say that one year ago I wasn't ready to give up the food. I've made my peace with it and I'm ready. -
