Starving on Pre-op
gomekast replied to pjackson0523's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine told me the same thing about everything else but soy and cows milk. Bummed for sure but I'm so used to it because I've got a 4year old that can only have soy. Wish there were more alternatives for us lactose intolerant people. -
Just curious, are you from Minnesota? I see mn in your name.

I've had a vit d deficiency for 6+ years now. But I've found that taking the 5,000 I I per day is the only thing that brought it up..but it doesn't seem to be an issue with surgery. Mine gets scheduled Thursday. :-)

Flintstone complete skin reaction?
gomekast replied to gomekast's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Just one per day. Giving it more time to see if it will go away once my body gets used to them. -

Starting liquid diet next week
gomekast replied to Hollisterfan27's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'd just buy the water and broth out of your list. My NUT gave me a list of acceptable RTD items and the other 3 on your list weren't on mine. That said, I have made two trips to GNC and purchased muscle milk and isopure. They had some marked down due to exp dates coming up in December. -

What are you doing to prepare for your surgery?
gomekast replied to McButterpants's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a hysterectomy last year and my nurses never set me up with a pain pump. I did not insist on it, and I regretted it in the middle of the night. Not good. This time, I'm begging for a pain pump full of Percocet! But to the original question...I've started to try to have dry meals. It's hard to not drink for 30 mins after tho. I have some samples of unjury, Isopure, muscle milk, and have some more from another company coming this week. I've got broth and sf pudding/jello. I'm also doing a pre, pre op diet. Doing 5 days starting tomorrow. The real pre op will be 10 days plus one day of Clear liquids after. I don't get my dietary guidelines until the 11th. It feels like forever tho, which is why I'm doing the trial run pre op diet. -
I'm starting at similar weight as you. I also have PCOS, high bp, and a heart condition that they think will reverse itself once I lose it all. I'm 285, and just under 5'9. I find out my surgery date this Thursday. I'm totally excited to finally lose all of this and be healthy and active for my 2 kids. I know it will be slower due to the PCOS, but I'm determined to beat it and lose it all.

Just be honest and be yourself. They can see right threw you if your trying to blow smoke at them. Mine was easy and comfortable. Their looking to make sure your mentally able to comprehend the risks and limitations involved with the pre and post op stuff. :-)

The headache/migraine is from the detox. Once you get to day 4, it will go away. Most report day 3 being the worst. I'm right behind you too. Starting mine tomorrow for a practice run.

Where do you learn/find all the info?
gomekast replied to Derbymama21's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My program gives you info in stages. I meet my surgeon this Thursday, where I get a huge chunk of info added to my binder book they gave me. Then I get the pre and post op diet stuff on the 11th. That said, I've been watching all of Dr Alverez's Endobariatric channel on YouTube. Love his videos, makes me feel more prepared since I don't have any of my surgery or post op info yet. -
I log my food just out of habit. When I don't log, I tend to never stop. I don't feel like I'm always on a diet just from logging it all. It's one tool I use to keep myself accountable. :-)

Liquid diet..mission impossible?
gomekast replied to Mrs.FullerRN's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did a 7 day juice diet last year. As in juice from my own breville juicer..using mostly veggies. Once I got past day 3, I was fine. Honestly, the detox the first 3 days was the hardest part. It was strange for sure to only drink when my family was chewing food. But then I got to the point where seeing people chew food in large quantities would greatly disturb me. Oh, and I'm right behind you on the full liquid diet. I find out this Thursday when I begin mine. -
What does this have to do with staples?? Am I missing something?

They do have a phone number to verify and most do call to check. The ins companies have statue of limitations and will check into it as time passes. At one time they had years to poke around into verification of claims. Also, most hospitals have the same limitations for how long out they can bill you. OP...do what another poster suggested. Ask about any scholarships. My area has had them as well. Once you explain the situation, most will be willing to make it work for what it is you need.

Vitamin deficiency & neuropathy (always cold) issues?
gomekast replied to A_ReNUDE_me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ask your program people the schedule for doing vitamin checks. Mine has a specific schedule for me once I'm post op. :-) -
Ha! An all Water fast ala Dr Joel Fuhrman. Best one I liked was Dukan diet..lean-high protein/very low sugar-carb.

I've been in therapy for 8 years to get to where I am currently. This process is certainly not for the weak or timid. If it's really what you want, then take a break and find a way to make it happen. You've got every right to feel what your feeling...but have you considered regular talk therapy? I've admittedly got a fairly bad temper, and my therapy has helped me tremendously. If something isn't going how I imagined it, I take a few deep breaths and find a different way to get to what it is I want or need. I'm also a mother and have small kids, so it's also very very useful for dealing with them. Best of luck to you...find your happiness first..the rest will fall into place once you find it.

I just got my approval on Tuesday! Was so excited and happy. Now, reality has set in. Time to start thinking pre op diet.
