1 Weak Out - Dehydrated, Getting Hardly Any Protein And Starving
gomekast replied to PinkBubble's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The first 5-7 days post op are a challenge for sure. Main goal should be just liquids for that time being. I didn't do anything protein until unjury chicken soup around day 5ish. That was all I was able to get down. My nurse said just focus on hitting liquid goals for that first week. It gets better then during week 2. I'm one month this week and still have days I can't meet my goals For the day. What your sleeve will or will not tolerate does fluctuate each and every day..so just hang in there. It gets better. My week 1 go to was Propel Zero. -
I personally know of someone that is a food scientist. What is that you ask?? Her job is to come up with a product to market that has as little nutritional value as possible, while still keeping the food like appearance. The end goal is to market It as food while keeping the costs down to make/create it. It's really appalling what the food giants will do to earn a few bucks. Oh and this food scientist is just one of hundreds that work for General Mills.

Yes that is correct . I tried it post op and it was a no go for me. It ended up being a trigger food for me and it is a slider. I had it once. I still avoid them. If you do try it be sure to stick to the serving size your NUT has designated based on the stage your in. Your nerves may be numb post op send you won't be able to tell her your full from eating any creamed soups. Good luck!

My Dr. Says If I Gain 1 More Pound I Will Be Given An Extra Month Visit But....
gomekast replied to KeeWee's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I do not think butter overreacted. To advise someone what you did is very very irresponsible! You guy's need to remember that post op,...you will be following very detailed eating plans. They are very specific!! So essentially, telling her to ignore your NUT now will do nothing for ANYONE at any point in this journey. Doctors and NUTS work together and decide the pre and post op eating plans taking many things in consideration. If you read threw each response, op gave more info, giving us a brief glimpse of her current issues. Most of us that have come here all have serious food issues. Most programs are structured to deal with the physical aspect of weight loss yes, but also deals with the intense head work of the psychological aspect of food. Advising someone to ignore their plan sends the signal to their brains that hiding food intake from their team is acceptable. Guess what? When she's 3 weeks post op and think she's healed, what will stop her from having a regular meal OFF the given plan??? Hopefully she would make the right choice but if she has hidden her consumption up to that point, why would the behavior change then?? WLS..it's not just about losing the weight...it also is just as much about the behavioral aspect and the psychological aspect. Many many things SHOULD be taken into consideration when you walk this road. Are you post op yet?? Has it been 6 weeks since you have chewed food? Do you know what it feels like to have a still numb sleeve from surgery and shockingly eaten half of a yogurts only to freak out because it's 5.3 oz and you're not supposed to eat more than 2 tablespoons? ? -
Gas x strips...and chargers for your phone if you bring one. Besides that you'll be fine. If you plan on showering there then bring travel sizes of those things. I didn't because I just didn't care. I was covered up and spent most of my time focusing on sipping. You won't have time for much else besides sleeping, walking a lot, and sipping. Keep it simple is my advice.

Sleeping Comfortable After Surgery...
gomekast replied to linda305's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery was back in October and I slept on my side the first night. They might have you on a specific recline restriction due to the gas. It will be tough to get a decent breath until the gas dissipates. I slept in my bed once I came home but with an extra couple pillows. After a few weeks, I was able to ditch most of the extra pillows no problem. This is just my opinion but I don't really think anything special will be needed. I had a hysterectomy last year and this surgery was a cake walk. .it's just the gas that is the sucky part. Good luck everyone! -
Everything I Eat Or Drink Hurts
gomekast replied to bosoxgirl1966's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My one month is this up coming week. Restriction really varies for me day to day. -
Alright ladies...I'm 2 weeks post op tomorrow. I've always had acne prone skin..and I'm not talking one or two small pimples here and there. I'm talking teenage hormone rage acne skin. Since having the surgery, my skin is super dry and it's flaking. It looks amazing yes, but super dry. Any suggestions for a lotion that hopefully won't make me break out or look like grease face? Thanks!

Confused On Protein Consumption/meal Overview: Lot's Of Questions For Pros :)
gomekast replied to Misti M's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Protein first yes. I had to ask to make sure how they wanted me to get it. I am on puree right now and hit my one month Tuesday . They said to do my puree 'meal' but to supplement with the protein shakes. Shakes will be a part of your post op diet for several months. Always check with your program. If your not sure, call and ask. My program gave us sample menus for each stage..and I've been following those servings on there. They'd rather get the questions than risk us not hitting our protein or water goals each day. Good luck! -
Crushed Pills Pist Op
gomekast replied to Andrew0929's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I mixed mine with a swallow of cream of chicken/mushroom soup. The salty taste form the soup really masked the bitter powder taste pretty well . -
Having A Hard Time Getting Liquids Down =(
gomekast replied to beachbaby29's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a difficult time getting them down until about days 5-8. I will be 1 month out next week and some days are still a challenge. What your sleeve will allow does and will change day to day. Room temp beverages seem to usually do the trick for me..but what the beverage is does change day to day. Try everything you can think of(within your allowed plan). It definitely is a struggle for the first 2 weeks. But get at least the minimum. Jello sugar free even counted to my minimum some days. Good luck everyone. -
Has Anyone Had Their Sleeve For 5 Years Or More?
gomekast replied to Chris2020's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My program said that the data for 5 years is just being completed. If you look at when the procedure was first approved and paid for by an ins co, you might not find many cases to follow. Why don't you just ignore all the outside interference and do your own soul searching. What do YOU think is the best bet for YOU. Ultimately this choice needs to be personal and for your own reasons. Not because of data or what the Internet says. Afterall, if we had all followed what the Internet said years ago, we would've all been thin from a miracle pill in just 6 short weeks. -
Sleeved 11.12.13
gomekast replied to MouseOnTheMile's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had that when I had mine last month. I couldn't keep a thing down until they found my sleeve swollen shut in two places. They took care of it by giving me a steroid shot in the belly. An hour later I could sip without dry heaving. Also, a good portion of people can't keep much down until about 5-7 days post op. Keep us updated! -
Alright vets...help a girl out. What in earth can I take? I do plan on calling my nurse tomorrow morning. But has anyone else gotten a nasty chest cold during the first month post op?
-
You'll bruise pretty easily for a week or two now. I certainly did. Im 3 weeks post op and my bruises are just now about gone.
-
I ws2s given the option the day 2, but I said no. I don't like showering in hospitals. You will be given the choice at some point.

Pre-Op Falling Out!
gomekast replied to IndigoChild's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You're not doing anything wrong. This is all normal. I had the same things during my pre op diet and on day 5-6 I finally began to feel better. It's your body detoxing from sugar and processed foods. I took lots of hot baths to make it threw mine. Good luck! -
Im getting that same error on anything besides page 1 of any thread. I've tried several threads in basic, main, and rants and raves. I just downloaded the app tonight becsuse I had to switch from iPhone to samsung android.

OCTOBER SLEEVERS- How Ya Doin'?
gomekast replied to TxCalico's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was sleeved October 21. 286 was my starting weight and today I was at 252. My food varies from day to day..im still on full liquids. Get to puree Wednesday! I always get my liquids in but the calories per day really vary. I usually have one or two days per week that are low calorie days. The rest im good and totally hit my Protein goal. But I'm loving this! I honestly really hope I never feel hunger again! -
I Am Lost On This New Site Configuration...
gomekast replied to Hidden from view's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm on android now. To get to threads I hit current frok the bottom and then participated. Brings me right to them all. I was on iPhone before and I like this android set up better. -
I'm on my iPhone and I've had to do the same thing. I'm used to it now.

I've chosen to not tell the people I'm not close too. No ones asked yet and quite frankly, I don't want to be the poster child for the surgery. Not yet anyways. Besides, no one else needs to know my medical history, I find that private.
-
I did it and my surgery wasn't until 1pm. Really did do me wonders. And since I used to get up and potty in the middle of the night, I slammed two big cups those times too. I had more time to get mine all out of my tummy tho as like I said, my surgery wasn't until 1pm. I should also say that I was allowed Gatorade zero the day before..so I was slamming that all day before surgery. Maybe look or ask if that can be had as well. My hospital said they let all bariatric patients have that day before due to the nature of the surgery.

Help For A Newbie! Pre Op Diet.
gomekast replied to jen86's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All of the veggies you have listed here make me gain weight. I'd stick to the greens only. They pack more nutrients per calorie. Broccoli, spinach and kale are 3 powerhouse greens. They have more Protein per calorie than any other vegetable. Good luck. You'll figure it out, just stick with your program directions.
