More Pre-op Questions....
gomekast replied to joshcoop's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had gotten the starter kit from unjury and sample packets from (bjs bariatrics website )Syntrax. I also have pure Protein powder(store bought). I tried them all while on my pre op diet...they saved me and kept me going each day..the different tastes they all gave were a nice change. Post op, they all tasted the same to me. But you won't feel up to much of anything besides clear thin liquids for a few days or a week or two. All depends on your sleeve and recovery. I had and still have a very tight sleeve..even at 3 months post op. It was swollen shut post op for the first couple days and I couldn't take anything in.. (that doesn't seem to be the norm tho) I started to feel human again about a week n a half 2 weeks. I wasn't a fan of the Clear Liquids stage at all..but trudged threw it and followed the plan. Once I was allowed the shakes again was when I felt better for sure. I never had buyers remorse as they say...I just really disliked the clear liquids stage. I have followed my plan to a T and have had great results so far. 3 months post op and I've lost 48% or 68 pounds. Now, for Breakfast I have either a rtd pure Protein shake (target or walmart) or I will add a scoop of syntrax cookie flavor to my cooled coffee. Good luck with your journey! -
How much and when?

Thank you septappt! I'm terrified it will stop..which is silly cause I know there's no possibility of that right now. -
A little assistance please...
gomekast replied to Jerzygurl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I tried Quest chocolate cookie dough I think it was...and I nuked it in microwave on a plate. O.m.g. The others I will have are pure Protein bars. But....I only eat the bars in a real pinch...their too many carbs for my personal preference. -

Bariatric coordinator thinks RNY would be better for me. What to do?!
gomekast replied to Scylla's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I forst began my wls journey, I intended on rny. But I learned more about the sleeve and was sold on it. If your not comfortable with rny then tell them the reasons why. I was sleeved 3 months ago and have what I call 'Gloria' the temperamental sleeve. Gloria doesn't like a lot of food....she doesn't like much of anything at all. She's happy when she doesn't have to do much but just hang out with an empty place down there. But my body does need nutrition so she does have to deal with food. From what I gather among other sleevers who were sleeved around the same time as myself, is that my results are not the norm. But..I will say this...I've been in therapy for 8 years at the time of my surgery. What another poster above suggested to take more time for self discovery is smart. You may think you've got things under control buttt........this head trip post op is not for the weak, timid or those with any sort of disordered eating history. Regardless of the method you choose, the mental head work..(i.e. what is it about sweets that mskes you love them so much/what do those items symbolize or replace for you) must be dealt with before, during and after the entire process. My therapist has a large practice largely made up of wls patients...and she has stated that those that had no therapy or counseling before and immediately after the surgery itself have been the ones to regain, struggle and have regrets. This isnt easy. Its the hardest thing I've done. Its a huge journey of self discovery for me. I'm realizing that most of us here at some point and degree had a certain amount of disordered eating, lack of self esteem and lack of self care and love. Good luck on your decision, ultimately only you can decide. Not your nurse coord. Believe in the choice 110%! -
Like Seela said, everyone is different. I know how my body reacts to too many carbs and sugars..so for me personally, I keep my carbs at 30grams carbs or less and fat at 15-20grams or less. That's where I need to stay in order to lose the weight. Protein I keep above 70grams.

Eating slowly, sitting at the kitchen table for a meal, and drinking enough water. -

???? I'm sorry. I laughed so hard at your butters comment up there that I snorted my water on accident. And I have been silently stalking you too since the beginning. I actually fell asleep while my 4 year old watched sid the science kid..so my brain stopped working earlier. -

Exactly! First I thought maybe they were all in vacation. .but that seemed too coincidence. Think I'll go back to my quiet corner until they return. For the record, I did see the post that was in question...sad that they had to go away as a result since it started in good fun in an off the beaten trail section of the forum. I'm using the app on my phone...and cant start a pm on here if someone is offline and not my friend. The website page is too much for me to go on there and figure it out. Too many blinky flashing moving items all over..makes my head spin. -
Only lost 5 pounds--feel like a failure! :(
gomekast replied to Noor1969's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did my pre op diet for 16 whole days and guess how much I lost?! The diet was 5 Protein shakes per day. 7 lousy pounds!! I felt so defeated because I was so proud that I didnt once cheat or sneak a bit of anything. Luckily my program didnt require the loss. My body pre sleeve just wouldn't let the weight go. -
How many people took their husband with them?
gomekast replied to BellaHugz's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine was with me..I had told him beforehand that he was to be the responsible adult for me post op. (All narcotics and anesthesia make me very violently ill.) So he stayed until I told him to go pick up our kids from grandmas house. -
I use unjury and Syntrax which I order on internet. In store I buy pure Protein. I also just got some bariwise fruit drink packets and bariwise variety pudding/shake packets. I'm 3 months post op and still use all of these weekly. Syntrax for me is the least used out of what I have.

gomekast replied to cynthia4722's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I believe its 1 year out with 200 or more posts. -
I was the same way until I was able to hit my water goal consistently. Once I began hitting that mine went away...but I had loose all watery stools for a good 8/9 weeks total-from pre op until it stopped around week 6-7ish post op. Not unusual at all. My dr wasnt concerned by it ad long as I hit my Protein and water goals each day.

Bone pain? Weird question!
gomekast replied to UNbLIVable's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've definitely had a lot of aches and pains in my 3 months post op. Its getting better now tho..so I'm hoping the worst is behind me. I had them mainly in legs and hips too. -
I look at total carbs...not just sugars. 7 grams of sugsr for me is too much for my personal preference. Yogurts now days are such a joke.

I'm 3 months tomorrow and mine is coming out. I trimmed it yesterday tho..and I've been using extra conditioner to help minimize the loss when I comb it out. -
