They put a great person in charge! You can look out for your health, and theirs too! At the same time you're in FL, I will be enjoying Tokyo Disneyland and Disney Sea! Much easier to negotiate food-wise because there are more limited choices. Too much choice is a slippery slope for me. Have fun!!!!!!!!!

I was doing great today, and then hubby comes in with baklava. I ate half a piece, but ever since I've had a raging headache from the sweetness. When am I going to learn??

I am in the same boat, so I started doing everything I did when I was losing: going to the gym, documenting all foods that went into my mouth, making sure I get all my Protein, making sure I take all my supplements, wearing my cpap (yuck) and going to bed at a decent hour. (Edited to add Measuring food too so I don't eat too much, and slowing down--even using a timer sometimes). Do you need another fill? Or maybe to meet with the nutritionist or doc to get some motivation? Since you are exercising so well, perhaps you are gaining muscle? Either way, keep it up!!

Reached goal in 15 months!
PuraVida37 replied to NLR1984's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
WOW!!! What a change!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
I have just begun to run this year. I used the Couch to 5K program. I love that I CAN DO it without the fire feeling coming up from my throat like I used to get when I was heavier. I like the feeling of exhaustion at the end, which means I'm free from stress and proud that I worked hard. I love the fact that there is no perfection in running--there is not end goal--which means you will always get a chance to do better, to challenge yourself. Runners are almost always happy people. How could you not be with all those endorphins? LOL I like the "freebies" at 5Ks--esp raffles and Protein bars. I also love that running is free, it's uncomplicated, and I can do it all sorts of places. @@Fiddleman, I am nowhere near your running level, but I love your enthusiasm! @McButterpants Love that you are running with your son. I've run with my daughter and I love trying to instill the love of exercise in her. She's almost 8, and ran a 5k with me this summer! She was so adorable, when I offered to let her cross the finish line before me, she said, "No Mommy, we trained together, we cross together." AWWW I love her!!

5 days post op and so bloated :(
PuraVida37 replied to newlife14's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I felt super bloated too. Walking is the only way to fix it. But trust your body, if you feel like something is very wrong, contact your doctor asap. -
Headache during and after eating
PuraVida37 replied to Sally Pearl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Are you eating something different? I get terrible headaches from sugar or certain sweeteners. Otherwise, I'd start documenting what you're eating and report to your doctor. Please follow up with us so we can learn from your experience and make sure you're ok!! -
Remember, it's not about your ability to eat more...it's how LITTLE you can eat and still be satisfied or make it to the next meal.

For the first time ever at the gym today, I was the only one running. The 3 other people were walking, but I was running!! I was the "fastest", and I kept it up for a nice 15 min jog!! Made me feel so proud!! Then to Celebrate I went down to the weight room and busted my butt. At one point a skinny mini was on the bar to do hanging leg raises and I totally did more and faster than she did. I felt actually somewhat normally fit!! LOL I have always been a completely non-athlete my entire life until recent years. Today I felt like I belonged there.

@bmj851 How are you doing after that episode?

Any other September 2013 bandsters?
PuraVida37 replied to Irishflower79's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Oh gosh, Debbie, I'm so sorry to hear about your husband. Best wishes for a speedy recovery after his surgery!!! -
I am two months away from mine. I didn't set a real # goal. Instead I made non-scale victory goals. My first goal was running a 5k...not walking, but running. I did it!! 3 actually so far this summer, and even one 4 miler (til I sprained my ankle recently at a party, so I'm sticking to walking only for now). I find that the number goal doesn't matter. My next goal is say goodbye to Lane Bryant forever and be thin enough to shop in only regular stores. I'm almost there (I'm at a 16-16W or XL).

Wow. I guess I got all the pages confused and finally see all the comments the doc made to the original poster. WOW. Abusive. Definitely find another doctor if you can. What an asshat.

I just wanted to add a little of my story here... years ago I had an GYN tell me that I needed to lose weight. I was 275 at the time and I brushed off his suggestion of WLS as ridiculous and very rude. I even changed doctors. Had I only realized that he would be the only doctor who actually addressed my REAL issue, I wouldn't have struggled with heartbreaking infertility and multiple baby losses due to high insulin levels. I am glad I came to the realization that he truly was only trying to help me. I wish I had taken his advice years ago!

I'll have to try that one! WOOOOOOO

Pre-op, nervous newbie, possible relationship losses
PuraVida37 replied to DanaKat's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not going to sugar coat it. Some people in our lives are not going to be supportive at all. She may feel a sense of loss and possibly jealousy at seeing you go in a different direction than she's accustomed to. You're taking away her eating buddy! All you need to do is be open and honest with her and keep communicating. This surgery shouldn't mean the end of your friendship, but it will mean the end of some bad habits. Eventually, when you feel safe enough, you can go back to that routine, but the food choices you make will have to be different. Instead of beer, choose Water. Instead of chips, choose to chew gum until the meal comes. Or ask her to meet you at a different venue. If she's not willing to compromise, then she is choosing to put your friendship in jeopardy. My last piece of advice is something you probably already know. You have made the decision to be banded because you have finally come to the point where you have made YOU a priority in life. That will mean some bumps in the road, but remember YOU matter, and YOU matter first in this whole thing. That may sound selfish, but it's true. Good luck in your banding journey! -

Any other September 2013 bandsters?
PuraVida37 replied to Irishflower79's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Come on people, it's been a month! Check in time!! If detoxed off Cheetos, but it's time for me to say goodbye to the Quest bars. I have become addicted to the cookie dough ones. I am sure I shouldn't be indulging every day (even if it is my snack!) POSITIVES RECENTLY: I ran a 4 mile race and didn't come in last!! LOL I am maintaining my weight. I conquered the cheeto/chips/slider habit. Trying to get back on my CPAP after months of hiding from it. THINGS TO WORK ON: I sprained my ankle, so I'm walking instead of running until I am sure I'm ok. I am sugar detoxing. Constantly trying to keep A1C level in mind. I do not want to go back to Metformin. Ever. I still eat too fast and too much. I need to really use the band better. Gotta eat "cleaner". No more junk, even in small amounts. How are you all doing? Are you doing so fabulously that you don't even need to be on here? LOL I hope so!! -
Just didn't have any other place to share this, and I knew of all the places in the world, you all would know what to comment. Today hubby took me and our daughter to the beach. She was playing in the sand with some other kids, and hubby (size medium) and I were chatting, side by side on the beach towel. My daughter yells, "MOM!!! This boy just called you fat!!" I was so shocked that I didn't even know what to say. (I haven't been called fat in a long time because I've been doing so well with my band!) I was immediately taken back to my middle school self and felt so ashamed and embarrassed. I just said (because I was so flabbergasted) "Why would he even be talking about me at all?" and turned away. I didn't want to make a big deal about it because I was so caught off guard. I just felt so bad for my daughter because she had a fat mother. Now, a few hours after it happened, I have a million other, better replies (especially "No name calling!" or "Yeah? and so what if I am?"), and I know I shouldn't be derailed by a kids comment, because he doesn't know any better. But it hurt. It made me cry. I'm 40, and a 5 year old made me cry. I should be above this and not let it get to me, but it did. Not seeking advice, just wanted to share and let it go.

Bellybutton Port Incision?
PuraVida37 replied to Nire's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine too. I have a sad face scar around half my belly button. Mine is just to the right side. I thought it would be an odd location, but it's working just fine! -
This morning I made the BEST shake ever!! I recently got a Nutra Ninja blender and put in my chocolate Protein shake (Bariatric Advantage), 8 oz skim milk, 2 tbs healthy Peanut Butter, and some Fiber. Oh yeah, and ICE! It came out like a Wendy's frosty and was SOOOOOOO good!!!! I will ALWAYS be using my Ninja for shakes from now on!

In need of veteran advice!
PuraVida37 replied to NolansNana's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your surgery date seems pretty recent, so you still may be ok. For me, once the swelling went down I became ravenous. I definitely could tell I needed the fill. Talk to your doc and tell her/him how you feel. They may decide you don't need it right now. That's the cool thing about the band, you can always add/subtract! GL! -

controling bad eating habits before Lap Band surgery
PuraVida37 replied to bajagal101's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
When I went through the pre-op diet, all I could think of was the point of it is not to lose weight. The point is to shrink so the doctor won't hit your liver or other organs. When I wanted to cheat, I just thought, "I COULD DIE ON THE TABLE." And for me, that was enough to get me through the hard times. Also, as a food addict, I really felt free on the liquid diet stage. I didn't have to worry about food at all. I loved it!! I thought I would mourn the loss of certain foods, but not at all! It was quite the opposite. In fact, I didn't get "the last meal" like some people have. I just didn't want it. One meal that got me through the PRE-pre-op diet (just low carbs) was a whole wheat pita panini. I prefer the brand Best Pita, cut in half, with one slice of low fat/low sodium cheese in each pocket, then 2 slices of thin cut low sodium ham. Put in on a cookie sheet and bake on 385 for a few min to melt it all. It became my go-to lunch. Just enough carb to satisfy. Other meals I ate eggs, meat, yogurt. I miss my panini! But now I just do the same with no pita (I don't eat any bread). Now, that was my story. What are you going to MAKE YOUR STORY? Are you going to change? Why are you resisting? Are you scared of failure? Isn't the whole point to have a healthier you? Don't you want to get started on that RIGHT NOW?! PS Once you do start, you will see the pounds fly off. I lost 30 lbs pre surgery from Aug 1 to Sept 30. It was so easy once I got started! Now it's even better with the band.
