No weight loss for over a week
alisadiane replied to sleepy12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery date was July 25 and I haven't lost anything since the week after surgery when I was still in liquids. I was getting discouraged recently and obsessive about stepping on the scale, so finally I told my boyfriend to hide the damn scale and I would weigh myself once a week starting after my first fill (not till sept 2). Don't get discouraged! We are in this stage where the band isn't able to do what it's supposed to do! I've set goals for myself that I am building great habits and behaviors for working out and exercising. I'm not focusing on any numbers except for protein needs and good eating habits. Good luck! Don't stress about the number!! -
I was just banded on Friday (7/25) and so far seem to be healing really well! However, I have a really strange side effect/symptom from surgery. On my right hip there is an area on the outer hip/pelvis section that is completely numb. I have no feeling, except for at night I sometimes get some nerve pain hot flashes to the area. I called and talked to my surgeons nurse who talked with my surgeon who both seemed rather baffled and had no idea what it could be. I'm relieved to find it's nothing serious, but I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced something like this?

I was banded this past Friday and I slept off and on throughout the first day and night..my boyfriend had an alarm set and was feeding me my pain meds to keep the pain at bay so I could rest. I've got a little discomfort now, but not taking any pain meds anymore. Sleeping through the night on my side ok now. I am also not getting enough fluids and having a hard time getting in all my protein. I'm only allowed protein shakes and clear fluids until next Friday..and I'm definitely struggling to get down my protein shakes now. I feel nauseated even getting through half of one. Thinking I need to mix up my fluids, and get them in another way somehow.

I was just banded yesterday and I had bought this pillow at Bed Bath and Beyond called the Boomerang and it has been a LIFESAVER! It allows me to sleep on my right side, and I think eventually I will be able to get to the left side again. Highly recommend this pillow. Best 20 bucks ever spent.

Hi all, I was officially banded this morning! Was supposed to have a hiatal hernia repair that showed up on my upper GI, but when my surgeon got in there he said there wasn't one. So, woohoo! I am feeling sore and discomfort and I'm SOOOO thankful I've got an amazing boyfriend waiting on me hand and foot. Lots of people say discomfort on their left side but I'm feeling the most pain right in the center incision of my stomach. All in all, I am happy, loved and cared for. Thanks to everyone here for their support and words. Now the journey begins!!! alisa

July 8 is my day! any one else in July
alisadiane replied to Ivowtodoit's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey everyone! My surgery is on Friday and I started my liquid diet yesterday. I also went and had all my blood work done..well they have this program where I can see all my blood work results..prob not a good thing because I'm a TERRIBLE worrier!! I saw that my white blood count was elevated a little outside of the normal range and I'm just hoping and praying this isn't going to turn out to exclude me from surgery or become a problem. Also, I feel like an emotional wreck today and that I'm on the verge of losing it! -
Hey everyone! My surgery date is July 25th and I am pretty much an obsessive neurotic planner/organizer. I have been trolling the boards to find a thread to help me make sure I have the items I will want/need for post surgery recovery. My doctor has really only offered me dietary restrictions and guidelines, but I can imagine there are best practices with things that were life savers for the healing process. What sort of things did you have during the first few days that you were SO glad you had? What were the items you wished you had? Any and all insight would be great!

Post Surgery necessities!

@@betchaican Thank you so much for the wisdom!! I have come to the terms that my recovery may be longer than I had anticipated, but I promised myself I wouldnt rush it. I started my pre-op diet on Monday, and it was ROUGH on day one..but each day that passes is easier and I notice my cravings are lessening. Thank you to EVERYONE who shared their input on this thread. You have all helped alleviate some of my fears and help me get my checklist completed! Every day that passes I am getting more and more excited!! -

@@betchaican I also found out I had a hiatal hernia and they will be repairing it at the same time as surgery. Is there any additional pain or restrictions during healing from adding this onto my surgery? I am only taking 4-5 days off work and really hoping it won't be that bad after surgery..but now I've got this additional procedure and just wondering if it adds any to the recovery time. -

Thanks for all the insight, girls!! I'm getting my checklist all prepared and of course being overly neurotic about everything! Thank God my boyfriend loves me..I know I'm driving him insane with my anxiety and lists and planning...Good to know about the ice packs and heating pad. I actually have both of those already. @@fhawkins12 congrats on your surgery!! I'm so glad it went well! -

July 29th for me! My surgeon is having me do a low calorie, high Protein diet for 7 days and then Clear Liquids for 3 days before surgery. Not ecstatic about it, but ive already put in SO much work for the past 7 months that I just keep telling myself it'll all be worth it! I just quit drinking caffeine starting today..which is REALLY tough considering I work at Starbucks! I'm not a HUGE coffee drinker, but I definitely enjoy my triple espresso in the morning. I'm only taking 5 days off work, so i'm hoping to be one of the lucky ones who bounces back pretty easily. Good luck to all you ladies getting banded this week!! Hoping for quick healing and recovery for you! Alisa -

@@Ariellestarr Thanks for the input!! My boyfriend and I live together so I'm sure he or my dad will fill my prescriptions for me..I definitely don't want to sit in a pharmacy right after surgery! I have heard a lot about sleeping in a recliner, and unfortunately I don't have one but I've been looking into something I can use in bed to help sleep more upright..or my parents have a recliner and I could stay with them, but there's nothing more comforting than your own home, so I'm hoping I can make it work..I also sleep on my left side, which is where my port will be, so I'm sure there will be all sorts of challenges with sleeping that will come up. -
@@Aliciafl2014 I also found out I had a hiatal hernia. I was pretty surprised. They asked me if I suffered from reflux, and I don't..they seemed surprised I didn't have any symptoms. My surgeon will also be fixing mine as well. I am so beyond ready for life after the band to begin..I am terrified to have surgery though. Everyone tells me it's no big deal, but I havent had surgery since I was 3 years old. Just pre-surgery nerves, I guess!

July 25th for me! Just set my date today! So excited!!!

Hello everyone! Been lurking for quite some time now and just got my approval for surgery! I am BEYOND excited! When the coordinator called me and told me I was approved I started shaking and crying..I just can't believe that what I've been working on for 6+ months is finally in motion! I know the road is long ahead of me, but I can't wait to begin this journey!! Insurance: Premera Blue Cross

Hi all, I had my consult with my surgeon last week and wasnt sure what to expect..supervised diet, 3 months, 6 months...so when he told me I would be fulfilling the requirements in 6 WEEKS it kind of floored me. So, tonight I go to my first support group meeting, next week is my first appt with the nutritionist and the physical therapist. When I asked about my insurance they said I was "pre-qualified" and that when I finish the six week program that they will file for final approval and set my date once that came through. I'm a little nervous about what this means and I hate to do all this work and pay into these appts only to be shut down. Not sure if I'm overreacting and my insurance will be fine, or if ill be waiting in limbo for this to happen. I'm also concerned about having the surgery in late November as I would be coming back into work during the holiday season (I manage a VERY busy Starbucks). Any thoughts or words of encouragement would be great! I go back and forth on whether I'm doing the right thing (I'm a TERRIBLE worrier), but I've found that the more people I tell the stronger I get. Everyone has been so positive!!!

Just want to say how thankful I am
alisadiane posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just want to say that I so thankful this forum exists. I have been struggling with self acceptance and my weight my WHOLE LIFE. I am rapidly approaching 30 and have done so much to better myself in my career and have found such an amazing guy that loves me like I am today and can see how beautiful I am. With all this being said, I had decided it was time to address my inner shame in lean into some discomfort and vulnerability in order to make myself happy and healthy. I truly think that it's because of this forum that I really had the courage to reach out and ask for emotional support from family and now medical intervention. Seeing so many of your beautiful faces and reading your success stories has truly given me hope, courage, strength and the ability to walk into my first consult with a surgeon next week. I am remaining cautiously optimistic on the insurance side of things since I work for an incredible company that gives us amazing coverage. Keeping my fingers crossed and my hopes up! Thank you all so much!
