I got these recipes from The New U Clinic, my bariatric center. I have not tried any of them, but the RN said that the middle one is her favorite!!! Hummus 1 can garbonzo Beans 1 tsp. Peanut Butter 1 T. lemon juice salt to taste 1-2 cloves garlic 1 tsp. cumin Drain beans, reserving liquid. Place drained beans and remaining ingredients in blender. Blend until smooth, adding small amount of reserved liquid from bean, if needed. Black Bean Hummus 1 can garbonzo beans, drained and rinsed 1 can black beans, drained and rinsed 1-2 cloves garlic 2-4 T. cilantro Juice of 1 lemon salt and pepper to taste Dash of Tabasco sauce 2 T. cumin 1 T. fresh parsley Place all ingredients into a food processor or blender and whiz until fairly smooth. Enjoy!!! Red Pepper Hummus 2 c. cooked chickpeas( garbonzo beans) 1/2 c. roasted red pepper 1/2 c. chopped fresh parsley 1/4 c. lemon juice 1 T. peanut butter 3 cloves garlic 1 t. salt Combine all ingredients in the bowl of a food processor or blender. Process until smooth. Serve with fresh vegetables.

I think if you look at before and after pictures of lap banders and then by passers...you can see a difference in the way they look. Yes, they both have lost weight, but one group looks healthy, their faces are not sucken in and don't have a gray color to them. I think we all know what group looks like this. I don't see by passers as looking healthy at all!!! Lap band patients lose slower, so what....who wants to lose all that weight and then gain it again. I would rather lose it slower and keep it off forever. I have a friend who is a by passer who is now wanting lap band because of the weight she has gained. Do your research and then choose what you want done.

Poll - Are You Attracted To Overweight People?
areellady replied to KariK's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I agree green, NOONE likes being fat, even if they tell you they do!! Most people are at a loss, like green said also, as to what to do with their weight so they don't do anything. Its a sad world but one that I am much happier in getting skinny and in shape. I think it is the getting into shape part that is better that just losing weight. I can feel muscles and SEE muscles and that is a big turn on to me, seeing muscles!!! -
Oh that is just great. The first time I went out I think I might have gone two miles and thought I was going to die!!! Juli is so right, little pieces put together, equal lots of success!!!! I started out with a 7 speed and ended up upgrading in a month....so glad I did, we live in a hilly area. I don't think there is one road in my area that is flat without some kind of incline to it. That makes the workout so much better though. Congrats to all who are just starting biking and those who are going to start!!! Good luck and be safe.

Thanks for the recipe. Do you know if you can cut the oil down to less the 1/3 of a cup and it still is okay? -
What is your cardio of choice?

I chose biking because that's what I do. I bike between 50 and 70 miles a week right now and am loving it!!!! Makes strong legs and butt muscles!!! -
hoosier, I know huh? I can't believe that I live to exercise now instead of live to eat!!! Its a great feeling though and I hope it NEVER goes away!!! I am a little concerned about this winter. What does everyone plan on doing in the winter time. This question is not for the ones who live down south and don't have an issure with weather...lol

I have restriction at over 2 months out and have not had a fill. I feel restriction at every meal. I eat and then I get a full feeling and then I burp...and I know that is it!! NO more food for me. If I do eat more, I get a really heavy tight feeling in tummy that is not how I want to feel, so I don't do that very often. My fill RN is not willing to give me a fill until I stop losing weight so fast, so until then I am unfilled and restricted. Oh there is head hunger, but not real hunger problems. Good luck to you!!

Getting Banded next week!
areellady replied to jnkntrnk's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery on Thursday and by Saturday was only taking Tylenol and not much of that even. I have a very high tolerance for pain though, so not all people are like that. When I complain of a pain, it damn well hurts and it not just an annoyance thing. Good luck and you will do fine!! You are almost in band land!!! -
I am sick of not feeling like I can go the ER or to the doctor because I won't be able to pay for the bill, but the medicaid patients can go and see the doctor any old time they want and DO!!! I am talking about the medicaid welfare horders who work there way around the system to get what they want and I pay up the ass in premiums and still have the shittest insurance out there. Make too much money to get medical cards, but don't make enough to pay huge doctor bills. THIS WHOLE THING SUCKS!!!!

areellady replied to NURSEDSD's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Donna, the time will come to pick up your calories. I was only eating about 500 calories that far out too. Your appetite will come back, some come slowly, some come quickly. You are doing great!! Drink, Drink, Drink...your water that it!! -
I have started my Journey!!!
areellady replied to Amcmh95's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Keep moving...that's what I did. I walked every spare minute I could. The nurses were telling me...hey, maybe you should rest for a bit...NOPE...CAN'T I would tell them...I have things to accomplish now....Don't stop walking. Make it longer and longer walks as you feel up to it. That's what I did and now am up to riding my bike 20 miles this weekend...in one trip!!! You are doing great...make sure you get all your liquid in... -
I didn't have a whole lot of energy right after being banded. I felt good, but not a lot of energy. About a week out, I started getting energy back and now it is through the roof. I can hardly sit still, where as three months ago, thats all I did was sit....The only times I am sitting still and not doing anything is when I am on the computer and eating. I don't watch much t.v. maybe two or three hours a week, and mostly the news. I love the new found energy. Makes you feel like you can do ANYTHING!!!

WOW, did we realize how much we eat????
areellady replied to Bamalama's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
and if you think about it, what do we do at every major holiday....EAT TIL WE PUKE!!! Its the American way!!! I know when it was Easter time everyone on the boards was talking about how it makes them mad that people put the Easter bunny into Easter because that is NOT what Easter is about and then in the same paragraph tell of the big BBQ they were going to for Easter dinner. I was laughing out loud thinking, "so when did eating become part of Easter?"...anyways....everything we as humans do seems to revolve around shoving stuff in our mouths, hungry or not. Speaking of DH's....aren't they sweet. Mine, last night, says, I think I will get some ice cream...I tell him to ask DD if she might like some.....NOW in MY mind, I have taught him the bandster rules of portions....so I don't think another thing of it UNTIL he walks back into living room with two bowls of ice cream so heaped up that it is falling out of the bowls!!!! THIS IS SO RIDICULOUS!!! It made me so mad, because not only does the ice cream have 130 calories per 1/2 cup serving, but there are probably 20 servings in each bowl..... OH BROTHER!! I don't know if you can teach someone you does NOT have to limit portions to do so!!! Damn men!! LOL.... -

Was banded April 19th, 2007. Starting weight on April 5th was 305.5. Today July2, 2007 I weigh 251.5. That in itself is an improvement. 1. I feel like going out of the house. 2. When I do go out, I am not as embarrassed. 3. I don't feel as embarassed for DH because everyone looking at the fat lady 4. Sex life has always been good, BUT, there sure have been some things that I have been missing since gaining weight that I forgot how good they feel.... 5. I just biked 20 miles this weekend 6. I feel stable in the shower...before I was always thinking what in the hell if I fall in here??? 7. My skin has cleared up and is sooooo soft now 8. Am having regular periods monthly...and on time...WOW 9. My rings are falling off instead of taking them off because they are getting too small...I love this one!!! 10. Had to tighten up my Birkenstock straps...they were too LOOSE!!!! 11. I actually feel worth something now, instead of just existing to exist. 12. I have been out and about more this past two months doing all sorts of things that I would never of done before because of my weight and I love it!!! Outdoor concerts, biking, shopping, going to Jackpot to see Willie Nelson(coming up), going into stores instead of making DH go for me, CLEANING MY HOUSE 13. and the best improvement is my life is now going to be longer than it was two months ago!!!
