Okay, first off, way to go EVERYONE who rode so much, or even a little this weekend!!!! How awesome!!!!!! I on the other hand, went to Jackpot, Nevada to see Willie Nelson today so I did NOT get any riding in today....pretty disappointed!! I was going to go when I got home BUT the lawn needed mowed.....so will go in the morning. I totally agree with the helmet....I didn't really even know mine was there either. Annie....that is soooooooooo nice!!!! You are doing sooooo good.....You rock girl.. Juli....All I can say is...."I'm not worthy, I'm not worthy" Babygrl...what kind of bike do you have right now???? You all are so awesome I am glad that we have "found" each other and can relate to one another... Oh...and when I got my helmet I also got gloves and did NOT get numb fingers on Saturday ride. Which was really nice. Hate that!!!

Oh goodie....glad someone loves theirs too!!!! I love the muscle definition I have now in my arms. My legs are getting lots of muscle definition from all the bicycling, but upper body is looking awesome now too!!

call your doctor and talk with them. You really really really should NOT be eating this soon out. If you are going to do it anyways, at least call your doctor, maybe they can explain the reason and scare you enough into NOT eating again until you are suppose to. It is only a short time out of your life. YOU CAN DO IT!!! Just be strong and keep thinking of how skinny you will be this time next year!!!

GOOD JOB everyone who has weighed this week and lost!!!! To those who might not of lost, hang in there...keep posting...maybe change up your exercise or calorie intake to see if something can get the scale to move....lets all be motivated by each other and be the way we were right before surgery.....ready for action and ohhhhh so ready to be skinny!!!!!!! -
Yeah, if you don't want a new bike....DON'T GO TO THE BIKE STORE!!!! They are so much more comfy, but really good for long distances. If that is what you want to do . I bought a Schwinn hybrid and then within a month got my Raleigh....The difference is so amazing. I could never of done 20 miles on the Schwinn and been walking. I actually had a hard time walking after 20 miles at all!!!! Aren't teens great for handing off stuff to them. Thats what I did too!! P.S. We bought helmets today..not too happy about it, but we did.

To those who are succeeding: What are the Critical Success Factors?
areellady replied to eGomer's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am going to answer all though I have done extremely well and have had no bad times. The first thing that I really truly believe to be the core of the lap band is IT IS NOT A MIRACLE!! A person has to be willing to work at it with all their hearts. I read many many posts of people continually eating treats and candy, drinking pop, eating out daily.....This is not going to work!!!I think a lot of people go into the surgery thinking it is going to be piece of cake(no pun intended) and it is NOT. It is just as hard as any diet I have ever been on to eat the right nutritious things. The difference being, this time, there is a tool in place so that if I do have something that is not the best nutritionally, I don't beat myself up and give up. I start again and the tool is still there. I think people think that they are going to magically not ever be hungry again, and this is simply NOT true. You will get hungry again and then you have to do some work and eat healthy!!!! Exercising is the next important step in this puzzle of obesity. So many people hate it and so many people don't do it!!! People want to believe that they can simply never have to move their bodies and be fine. A person may very well be able to lose weight without exercising, but what about strength. We lose so much muscle when we lose weight if we are not doing strength training. We have taken a step to be healthy, why not just take the next step and start what you hate to do....exercise. Next I think that self hatred can be the worst thing that a "dieter" has to deal with. Self hatred of a body that is not losing fast enough, body image disorder and hanging skin. I think we all need to learn to love us for us. I am not saying I am there yet, but I am a lot closer than I was three months ago. These are just a few thoughts that poppes into my head as I read your post....I don't know if it is what you had in mind but hope it helps. -
I have gone for two fills and both times they would not fill me. She says she doesn't want to do a fill if I am losing so fast on my own. After being disappointed about it, I came to realize that I am lucky I am losing so fast with no fills and am going to enjoy it while I can!!!! Although, I do have restriction without a fill so I do get full if I am in tune to my body. Now head hunger is a whole different thing!!!!

Thanks Juli, I am going to get a helmet today!!! I have been riding without one since I started. I just feel like I sweat so much and get so damn hot now, add a helmet on my head and I wont be able to think!!!.. Babygrl, so you did get hurt, just didn't realize it. Hopefully the bruising wont last long and you won't find anymore. Juli, I thought maybe that was the case of the bikes, since you were talking about the different scenarios that you and GF like to ride in. Well, at least she has a bike to be able to go with you....Thats a plus!!! Oh on a side note...has anyone had carpal tunnel surgery and now get numb fingers from the pressure on the handle bars???? I am having a hell of a time with my left hand the end two fingers are driving me nuts....they go numb and stay numb for hours after I am done riding. I had the surgery over 2 years ago and for some reason just since riding my bike I have noticed this terrible numbing. Thanks all, happy riding!!

You know I was drinking a lot of the fruit punch too and was getting a lot of headaches. I stopped drinking so much of it and the headaches are gone. I wonder what it is about the fruit punch?
-
aweeeee babygrl...I am sooooo glad that you were not hurt!!! How scary. I don't have a helmet yet either. I know, that is just dumb, but that is the way it is right now. If I would of flew over my handlebars, people would of thought that a land whale was in their midst!!!!!! God, how embarassing...poor you!!!! I think I would of just died!!! At least you were not hurt. Thats the important thing. How long before you will be able to get your bike in to the shop? What did DH say???? Juli, does your GF have a road bike too?? You will have fun either way, at least you are spending time together...and its active....not at a restaurant pigging out!!!! LOL....have fun!
-
YEAH nume....you are right around the corner to being in bandland!!!

I did the same thing. It was so weird. I have never been cold in my whole life. I was wearing a sweater around all the time. It lasted a good couple of weeks and then all of a sudden it was gone, as fast as it came on. I don't know why it happened. I did not have a fever.
-
Woo Hoo!!! Keep at it!!! I did 10 miles this morning and over 10 this evening with DH...It is great except the extremely hot temps over 100 here today....Too dang hot!!! As for your seat, you are the one who has to ride the bike, so it should be comfy to you. They bike store wanted me to get a medium framed bike, but I felt better with a large frame so that is what I got. It is all about you and how you feel as you ride, which by the way, can change rapidly, so just pay attention to how your body feels and you might need to adjust things up a bit. Deanna

HI all, I went to see the exercise physiologist yesterday and he tole me some great things. First, he said that biking was THE BEST cardio ever. Better than walking. No stress on joints at all. He said that if he could get everyone who starts on WLS journey to get a bike and ride it everyday they(the WLS clinic I go to) would have the number one success rate in the country. So I guess that is a NSV for me, since that is my favorite thing to do... Second he talked with me about strength training. I was a little concerned about adding weight and adding weight as the smaller weight became too easy, but he set me straight on a few things. 1) Testosterone is what builds massive, huge muscles. Women do not have that kind of testosterone in their bodies, so it would be impossible to buile huge muscles. 2) If you can do more that 12 reps in a set of weights then you need to add a bit more weight. These were a few things that I didn't realize and thought I would share with you. Deanna

YEEEEEAAAAAAA!!! Good for you!! You are so upbeat about your situation! I am SOOO glad that you got approved. Deanna

Ok, here is my opinion on the matter. IF you buy the dress in a size you THINK will fit next summer and then you end up losing A LOT more or less than you are thinking you need to fit into the dress, then you might skip right over getting to wear it. I guess I am trying to say, if you buy the dress in a, say 16, then lose weight so fast that by next summer you are a 12...then you skip right over getting to wear it. But, if you think that will be motivation for you to do better so you can get into the dress then I say go for it. Especially if it is not really to expensive and won't hurt too much if you never get to wear it!!

I have the bowflex revolution. I love it so much. I do a strength training program every other day with it...so three days one week then four days the next week. Their equipment is so well made....I am soooo impressed. I don't think you could go wrong with any of their stuff. You can always send it back too!! Good luck

The way I understand it is that if there is nothing in the pouch, then liquid will go straight through into the stomach. I think the problem comes when you have food in your pouch and then drink lots of liquid it could potentially stretch the pouch out. I think that is some of the idea behind the waiting to drink after you eat too, not only to keep the food in the pouch and feel full longer, but to decrease the chances of stretching out the pouch.

Good job babygrl!!!! I have not had a fill as of yet either....almost three months out.... ok ppl....who is weighing in this week????? Has everyone weighed or waiting until next week???? -
Hi all, Thought I would start a new bicycle thread!! My and DH went 20 miles today!!! 20 freakin miles....holy smokes....are we ever tired....BUT..the weird thing is....I ate LESS than normal after going this 20 miles... That is way to look at it...I mean, this is LIFE...not some movie...dessert is OUT there and is going to be part of your life at times. Learning that dessert is ok once in awhile is the best thing ever. If everyone could think that way, they would be better off. Just like eating out ONCE IN AWHILE is ok...it just shouldn't be an everyday thing... What are you doing this weekend??Is this the weekend with GF riding together? If so, have an absolutely wonderful fantastic time.....and tell us all about it when you get back...well, not ALL about it, but most of it!!!!!!!!
-
That is so cool...tell hubby.........WAY TO GO!!!! I used to roller blade 4 hours a night almost every night!!!!! That was about 8 years ago, I was still heavy probably about like I am now...maybe I should start doing that again. I really loved doing that, in fact, hubby and I would take our big broom and sweep the entire park trail so we had a clean smooth surface to blade on. LOL....nice job on the 14 miles....I think it gets funner the farther you go too!!! When you get done, your ass might hurt but your body feels awesome!!!! p.s. I had to ride by myself tonight. DH hurt his back pushing the boat around on the 4th so I went by myself. Not nearly as fun and seemed like a lot more work too!!! I love the motivation and encouragement that he gives me along the way!!

Juli is the best!!! She is always there to answer questions and if you're lucky, she will become your shadow, or you will become hers!!! Gravel and bikes do suck!!!! I have a few different bike routines set up that are 10 miles and some of them have some loose gravel and I HATE it every time I have to go on that part of the ride. It is a very uneasy feeling!!! Keep on keeping on...
-
I think that that would be a GREAT thing to do !!!!!! WHy not? You most definitely would NOT make an ass of yourself...go for it!!
