This too shall pass. You got this! Congrats on entering the purée phase of recovery. Unfortunately, I don't have any fabulous purée ideas. Take it easy. Look for the unjury protein shakes/powder. I'm currently drinking the Visalis protein shakes. You have to order them from a distributor, but I think you can find it on Amazon. Take care & keep up the good work!

    Protein question

I was told the reason to avoid those carbs is because they expand/get gummy in the stomach and can be difficult to pass through the band or get stuck. I've experienced this. Like you, I focus on protein & veggies. I'm quite satisfied with that. I do have a sweet tooth though. :/. Everything is okay in moderation. The band is the best thing I've ever done for myself. I'll do whatever ever it takes to be successful, feel great & look great.

    Protein question

That's interesting about the rice. My surgeon & dietician said no rice, pasta & bread. Rice & bread I absolutely cannot have. Pasta is a sometimes in very small amounts w/ a lot of sauce. Meats.... Dry meats such as chicken & turkey are horrible if not cooked in a sauce. Steak must be medium. I eat a lot of fish. Flakey baked or grilled fish are the best flesh protein for me.

The shake I'm talking about is unjury. It hit me! Lol

    Protein question

I can't eat veggie burgers due to them having rice, which is a no-no with the band. Turkey burgers can be dry and without condiments and thorough chewing they can be uncomfortable to eat.

I was very sore and bruised after surgery, which lead to poor sleep. I needed a week and a half to recover, but was back to work after a week (did it over spring break). Just needed a few extra days to get rest properly. I didn't wait until I was hungry while on the liquid diet. I had cream soups, cream of wheat etc at normal meal times and after a few days I was hungry. I kept up w the fluid intake and had Popsicles. Everyone is different. I also did protein shakes during recovery at normal meal times. think their is a shake called recover. I believe you can purchase from Amazon. My mom had it after her gastric bypass. My dietician says that specific shake was a great source of protein during recovery.

I'm also a patient if Dr. Shayani. I was very disappointed when Tina left St. James, but she has reunited with Dr. Shayani at Adventist hospital in Bolingbrook.

I'm in Romeoville and was banded in 4/12/12.
  15. Erwin, What you've listed as food you've eaten such as black coffee, breadsticks, fruit & Fiber one Cereal isn't really smart eating. As I approach my 2nd yr anniversary with the band, I continually need to remind myself of making healthy choices. With the band, I need to make the best choices nutritionally, especially since I'm restricted with my eating. I find that when I'm not eating enough Protein and not getting enough variety I tend to lapse into some old habits. I would recommend eating more protein. Have a hard boiled egg with your fruit & coffee instead of a breadstick. The carbs in the breadstick and sugar in the fruit along with coffee... It seems you are lacking true substance. I find that when I fail to plan my meals for the week, I also don't make healthy choices. Track what you're eating, get protein, cut the carbs, and give yourself variety. With your busy lifestyle, you can still be successful. I returned for my second masters 6 months post-op and I'm a single mom. If I can do it, you can do it too.
