how long did people take off work for recovery?
akreese02 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am a teacher and on Spring Break. I had my surgery last Tuesday and plan on going to a three hour training this Monday then back to work Tuesday. I feel pretty good but hope Im not pushing it. Also, when were people walking 20-30 minutes? -
4 days out... So weak & tired. Anyone else?
akreese02 replied to Goldy6575's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The traveling probably has something to do with it but I am still tired 8 days out. I have noticed that if I do not get some form of Protein in every hour and tons of Water, then I am brain dead! It also got better when I was able to add small amounts of soft food protein. -

Really? First full day back and I was so exhausted, my co-teacher took my afternoon duty for me so I could go home. -
When did you go back to work?

Like you, I had my surgery Tuesday 3/24 and I am going to a three hour training today and then back full time tomorrow. I was really nervous but as each day passes, I feel better and despite being a bit irritated, I think I can handle it. Just going to take things slowly. -
So here another noticing. I'm SUPER angry and irritated.

I'm going to try and hold off on any medications this soon as I have read about replacing addictions. Going to try some deep breathing for now. -

I don't know. It started in the hospital. My mom was helping me while my husband took care of the kids at home and she has always been long winded when she talks but I thought it was going to take every ounce of self control not to go off. Today has been the worse for my short fuse with my kids. I am starting to feel so guilty not to mention that I go back to work as a teacher (special ed none the less) tomorrow and I am scared of this short fuse that has developed. -
5th day the worst for being tired
akreese02 replied to akreese02's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Taking all my Vitamins. I really think I need to start the phase 2 pre-selected diet (yogurt, egg beaters, cottage cheese). I start day after tomorrow. -
5th day the worst for being tired

I'm kind of freaking out. I go to work tomorrow (only for three hours thank goodness) and this has been the worst day so far for being tired. I went to the grocery store and broke out in a sweat. My mind is in a fog. It's like I can barely function. I am drinking all my Water, Protein shakes, miso Soup. I even had some watered down apple juice thinking it may be low blood sugar that was causing the sweating. bleh! -
Guess who had a melt down today...

hair loss after surgery
akreese02 replied to lruby10564's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At my class before surgery, they stated that due to the hair growth cycle (about three months) and due to such a restrictive diet for weeks that hair loss is normal. Once your body regulates and you are eating solid foods etc., your hair should grow back normally. I am going to start taking Biotin soon but the damage is already done since I have been on a clear liquid diet and then liquid Protein for about 10 days now. -

Hot flashes/cold sweats
akreese02 replied to jmscout6's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is exactly what is happening to me. If I drink a few sips of a Protein drink, I turn hot and "stuffed up." I'm paranoid to drink anything other than Water but I need to! -
Thanks everyone! Morning of day three and I feel much better. I've watered down the Isopure (which I hate by itself) and plan to walk around the block. I had a horrible headache last night but I just kept sipping Water and it seemed to get better. Going to go off pain meds completely and hope each day brings more and more health! Since I started the pre-op liquid diet on 3/22, I've lost 11 pounds. Geez!

I tried a protein shake for the first time with skim milk - allergic reaction
akreese02 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My face became red and I was burning up (it subsided after about an hour). I HATE Isopure. Any suggestions on how to get Protein if I'm going to have allergic reaction? -
I'm 2 days out and glad to see it gets better because right now, it is hard to get fluids down, I'm nauseous and in pain.
-
Surgery went well. I'm home and struggling to get fluids down. I know it will get better but the first couple of days have been tough.

This is the second time I have been on this forum. I have jumped through all the hoops, insurance was approved on first try. In fact, everything went really smoothly but the liquid diet the last two days has been a struggle with three kids on spring break. My surgery isn't until 12:30 and I can't eat after midnight tonight so hoping I can just get to checked in (10:30) then chill.

I have a BMI of 33 but have type 2 diabetes and high cholesterol. My insurance covers the lap band but with a BMI of 35 with co orbit condition. Just curious if I should even jump through the insurance hoops or try to go self-pay route. Has anyone been approved with a lower BMI and if you had to finance it yourself with poor credit, how did that work. I was thinking about doing a credit repair to see if that helps but it is just MORE money.
