    Metal detectors

My dh works at the worlds 3rd largest airport and goes through security everyday. He has gotten to know some of the TSA people and they have told him that sometimes the equipment seems to tweak itself up in sensitivity and they have noticed that it usually happens when the barometric pressure is up. I don't know if that is true or not, but that is their story and they're sticking to it, LOL! If it is true, you may be able to pass through one day and get snagged the next. Go figure!!!!

    Eating too much before surgery

I was the same way, too. I gained several pounds just before surgery. Luckily the 2 weeks of liquid pre-op took it all off.
  7. Your not gonna believe this!!! I spent ALL morning in radiology at the hospital today. At first they just could not understand why I was there if it wasn't just to get a fill. They kept asking me what my problem was that I would need a barium swallow. I explained over and over again.... Finally I asked the radiologist to call my dr. She did and he told her what was up. So then she did the swallow. Took 3 pics and told me I would have to wait around until my dr got there to take a look. Meanwhile, they gave me a pager (one of those big ones like you get at a restruarant) and told me to go sit in the cafeteria and have a cup of coffee, so I did. I sat in there til around 11:30 and then decided to just go hang out in the radiology lobby in case he showed up. Sure enough, my beeper went off a few minutes after I had sat down! So I turn it in to the girl at the desk and she says it will be just a few minutes. So I wait and wait and finally this woman comes to me and says "Oh, I'm so sorry. I didn't know that was your pager # and I called it by mistake." So I said that was ok and asked if I could have my pager back. They gave me a new one and I went back to waiting. The waiting room was getting overcrowded so I decided to just go down the hall to the registration waiting room where it was less crowded (I had a beeper, afterall). So I sat in there until after 1pm. I stepped out in the hall to stretch my legs and heard a voice behind me say "There you are, I've been looking for you for more than 30 minutes!" It was the girl from radiology. I asked why she didn't page me and she said they didn't write down what # my beeper was!!! So anyway I go back to radiology and find out that my dr. has ordered another cc fill. I get on the table and the nurse is about to get me all prepped and the radiologist turns the flouro on and says we can't do this today. All the barium from the ealier swallow was hiding the port. You could see it, but not clearly. So then I am escorted back to the desk and handed the phone and I had to call scheduling and reschedule the fill for tomorrow at 11 am. Why was I the one who had to make that call??? All I could think about was that comedian that always says "There's your sign!" Yep, it's a REDNECK BAND for sure!!!! Oh, and I still had a large copay for today and will have another for tomorrow!!! :cross-eye

I Think I am Addicted to Sugar

How about trying some nuts or beef jerky??? I think, in general, the first fill is done at 6 weeks out (if neded). I got my first fill at about 5 weeks though, because I have a 10cm band. Good luck!
  9. Good luck Tracie!!! Be sure to let us know how you are doing.

    I should have asked sooner...

Greg, you are such a mess, LOL!!! What kind of tummy excersices are you doing? I am a little afraid of vigorous ab workouts.

Support Groups - How is yours run???

I haven't gone to one yet. Somehow, I feel like I shouldn't until my band actually starts working. Do any of you feel like the support group is more helpful to you than this site??? Just what goes on at the meetings anyway??

A few questions for the post-op stage

Brighteyes, I replied to your other post. As I woke up from surgery, I asked for coffee, LOL!!! Of course I didn't get any until day 3 and let me tell you, it's a darn good thing I was on a morphine drip until I got it! OMG it was soooo good!! I drink approx. 4 cups every morning and then I'm usually done for the day. I've been a coffee drinker since age 11. When I travel to foreign lands, I am always eager to try out the local coffee. LOL, I guess it's becoming a hobby. I truly don't believe it is as bad for you as some drs would have you think. BTW, the Cuisinart Grind & Brew RULES!!! As for sipping Water, I find that I have no problem sipping from my big mug with a straw while at work. At home, though, I guzzle! Go figure...
  14. Brighteyes, your dr's instructions sound perfectly normal to me. The reason you see so many different pre-op and post-op diets on here is because every dr is different and has different requirements. The most important thing that you can do is follow YOUR dr's instructions. Good luck with your band journey and your hip replacement!

    Snowing in Vegas

Here in the North Central part of Texas it is more common for our winter storms to bring ice than snow. We usually don't see much snow accumulation around here and some years we don't even see a flurry. I agree with Leatha, the temps here vary so much that I don't ever completely put my summer wardrobe away for the winter. I have sunbathed in my back yard in January and February!!!

    80% Divorce Rate!!!!!!!!!

Greg, it's a good thing it doesn't hurt when I laugh!!! After doing some serious people watching at the airport last week, I told my husband that when I lose the weight to not ever let me dress like a slut because I will never have the bod for it, LOL. Someone needs to tell these women and girls that the belly hanging over the hiphugger pants style ONLY works if you are pencil thin, FIRM and under age 20!!! One good thing about being a shorty is that hiphuggers tend to hit me near the waistline, LOL!!! Of, course the higher waistline pants go all the up to my boobs!

    Got my referral *HAPPY*

I didn't have to see a psych. and my only experience with a nutritionist was when some woman walked into my hosp. room right after surgery and handed a sheet of paper listing a vague and confusing diet to my husband. I, of course, was on a morphine drip at the time.... I did notice that her services were part of the charge on the hosp. bill, though!

    Tucson trip

Penni, I'm so sorry to hear about your sis and your funk. I, too, am starting this new year in a funk, so here's hoping that we both pull out of it very soon!!!! I also learned that taking a trip doesn't really help me, I went all the way to Peurto Rico and still came home in my funk. We've been missing your sweet, smiling face around here! Please check in often!!!

    80% Divorce Rate!!!!!!!!!

My DH has worked in the aviation industry for many years and the divorce rate in that industry is very high. They have a different meaning for AIDS - Aviation Induced Divorce Syndrome. Airline employees work the worst hours/days/holidays you can imagine. A lot of spouses just can't handle it. I figure if we can beat that, we can certainly make it through my weightloss, LOL!

Jonathan, I once went from 208 to 136 on prescription wl drugs. The drugs made me feel like crap so I quit taking them. As soon as I stopped I ballooned right back up and just kept on going! Along with you and everyone else, I am praying this band is the 'real' answer!
