  1. In one month I will have my one year band-i-versary...I cant believe it's already been a year. I am getting close to goal, but it seems it's getting much harder to lose those last 30 something pounds! Hows everyone else doing that is close to a year?

To Tell Or Not To Tell?

I actually just told them tonight at Thanksgiving. It was time.
  9. Today I had my second fill. As usual I filled out the questionnaire of what I can and cannot eat well. I stated that flaky fish and pizza give me problems. (Which they both do, I have had the worst stuck episode with both!) My Dr., upon review of my stats (he complimented me on a job well done!) stated that if I am having trouble with these things, then he wants me to eat them more often? HUH ? What? Does he want me to suffer? He then explained that he doesn't want me to see any food as a no-no of what I can and cant eat. He wants me to re-learn how to eat all foods. If I start putting foods on the "no-no list", then my relationship with food will not change, Food is just Food. And I should look at it that way. He then told me to stop obsessing about food. To stop counting every single calorie, step taken etc, and just enjoy life and the journey I am on. WHAT? Isn't that what got me here? I do use my-fitness-pal to log all meals, and am enamored with my new fit bit and do admit that I may spend way too much time ensuring I meet my goals, but isn't that part of this? I explained to him that I have always been good at losing weight-heck most overweight folks are and can write a book on how to do so. The problem I have is maintaining and that is how I see my lap band. As a tool to keep me from sliding and to guide me to better choices. I welcome any feedback here..Am I obsessing? Or am I just living by a different set of rules and finding my way?

    Travel After Surgery?

I travel for a living- I am 4 months post Lap Band ( down 61 pounds thank you very much I started traveling only 3 weeks post op- my doctor was fine with it. Make sure you stay hydrated when flying!!! Don't eat a big meal prior to or immediately after a long flight- stick to a light meal - yogurts, shakes, and plenty of water!! You make have some incision pain due to the oh so comfortable position of the airplane seats- Take a pillow (a neck pillow can double as a belly pillow) The scariest thing for me when traveling was eating out- Just pre plan every meal. Always ask your Dr first- some Drs. have differing advice for their patients. Good Luck and Safe Travels!!
  12. She is a publicity seeking non-relevant fool ! Who is she to judge CHILDREN? At least these kids are getting out and walking and getting some exercise while trick or treating! HOW DARE SHE!
  13. I was on the scale for my weekly weigh in and my Granddaughter decided she wanted to weigh in as well. She was getting ready for school and for some reason wanted to see what she weighed. This is where the reality smack happened. (To date I have lost 42 pounds from my highest weight. I was banded August 21st, and just had my first fill this week.) When my granddaughter stepped on the scale, she weighed exactly 42 pounds (The EXACT the same amount of weight I have lost so far) WOW....I have been carrying around a five year old this entire time....CRAZY!!

    Moms with young kids question...

Salad works for me as long as I chew chew chew. I had surgery on a Wednesday and went back the following Monday but I did work from home instead of going in. I too have only shared the fact I was having surgery with family and close friends and I wanted to avoid the question during lunchtime. If you do go back, make sure you have flexibility to walk as needed. This will help eliminate the gas pains that sneak up on you! Good luck !!
  16. Part of the responsibilities for my job is traveling. I was banded 8/21 and have been terrified to get back on the road. The comforts on being home in a controlled environment seemed to make me feel safer as I undertake this new journey. Monday began my first trip since surgery. I have learned a few things: 1. Pack a snack or healthy meal for the plane (airplane peanuts are the worst!) 2. Immediately upon arrival go to a grocery store and get Water, and meals as needed. Don't depend on the Breakfast at the hotel to have the options you need. 3.Pre-plan all dinners! Most restaurants have nutritional information on their website. Look for it and plan ahead!! So far so good- but I am sure there will be many more ah ha's added.... More tales to come from the road..... KH
