Just curious, do any of you have your access port placed above your left breast? My surgeon said this was the most stable place to put it because bending and moving would not affect it and it reduces the risk of the port flipping.

Access Port above left breast

As crazy as this seems, I cannot feel the port nor can I see it, so on Wednesday I'm gonna get the doc to show me exactly what he did. I have two friends that this surgeon did their's and I couldn't see their ports either. -
For the most part, I'm doing fairly well. Still having pulling pain in my port site. I'm so over the clear liquids'. I've had way too much time to think about food. It's those boredom head cravings, but I'm managing'

My dr said this is the most stable location to put a port and reduces the risk of the port flipping. I can't feel it right now so I can't wait to go back on Wednesday and have him show me exactly where it is.

The key to using shiratake noodles is to wash, wash, wash them and then pay them dry. I like them with spaghetti sauce

I have a dairy allergy so I found a soy protein that is completely unflavored. I ordered from Puritan's Pride.

How are you sleeping? My surgeon places the port right above the left breast, so needless to say it pulls tremendously, so I'm having to sleep on a recliner. I'm so looking forward to getting into my bed. I'm 4 days post- op and the boredom is killing me! All these food commercials, so my head hunger is on the rampage!

I'm on day 3 post-op and everything went well, but today I'm fighting head hunger! Good grief, how many food commercials can they play in an hour? I know we all have to go thru this so I've just been staying on here reading most of the day just to distract my mind! Keeping the big picture in my mind! -

This is my third day post op with no nexium and I am thrilled, I hope repairing the hiatal hernia has resolved my reflux issues and I pray that it stays that way! -

I'm doing really well. Chest pressure from hernia repair, gas pains in sides and shoulder, got a little nauseated right after surgery, but overall just uncomfortable, and for that I'm thankful! No hunger, just thirsty as all get out! -

@ Sojourner - did you have a hiatal hernia too? I have been on Nexium for a very long time, but I have a hiatal hernia and my doctor said that having the repair should fix that. -
Hey Pat -I'm Jan, I live about an hour away. I'm scheduled to have my surgery on Thursday.

I am scheduled to have my surgery next Thursday and I have read a lot about calorie intake, and protein intake, but I can't seem to find what I am looking for on what is the recommended amount of grams of carbs one should eat per day. Do any of you have any recommendations?
-
Believe it or not, my surgeon doesn't send you to a nutritionist and I was very surprised to hear that. I'm self paid and maybe that's the difference, maybe I should try to find one on my own and talk with them.

I intend to stay as far away from "white carbs" as possible since they are one of the biggest factors of my weight being as it is. My surgeon gave me lists of things to eat and when, and it focused on good sound proteins, but I just wanted to make sure that I didn't go over the carb intake as well because some fruits and other proteins may have carbs as well. I appreciate all of the advice. You all are very helpful.

I was just concerned that like my doctor told me to drink the Gatorade G-2 and I noticed that its pretty low in calories and it does have 7 carbs which I know is not very much, but I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't going over what is considered a reasonable amount per day.

I would like to know how your lap band surgery has affected your family?
fee139 replied to fee139's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Jim - those things are very important to know. I know that I want to make a conscience effort to be mindful of times like that and that's why I really wanted to know about how it affected the whole family. I read on a blog that one lady said that her husband felt a bit neglected because suddenly she was focusing on herself and what she ate and how she exercised and it became a bit obsessive for her and she didn't realize that she wasn't spending the time with her husband as she had before. One other person said that she had to really watch out for becoming the "food police" to her friends and she found that her friends would apologize for the amount of food they ate which made her uncomfortable too. So our life's decision does affect others and like I said, I really want to be mindful of those things. -
I go on the 21st which they said was my follow up appt for my hiatal hernia, and they didn't mention any more visits, so maybe I will know more next week. Can you tell that I'm a little anxious. Yeah, I'm self pay too, had my first visit 8/6, endoscopy 8/13, and surgery 9/5.......so it's been a whirlwind, but I'm ready!

I didn't know if a nutritionist was part of the deal or not. Small world isn't it? I love his staff and they are so helpful. I have been emailing the daylights out of one of his nurses who has had lapband surgery. It is my understanding that most of his staff in the Macon office have had lap band and it's pretty cool that they know what you're going through. So when did they give you all the information that you would need?

I am about to be banded in 3 weeks and I have had very mixed emotions on this subject. I have told my closest friends and my family and just a few of my coworkers. I am not ashamed of having the lapband surgery but I simply don't want to invite others to scrutinize me all the time. Maybe later after I have lost a good bit of weight, I will share with others but again I may not. I just kinda think like this.......if I were having a hemmorhoidectomy I wouldn't be sharing with others, because it's simply none of their business. I believe that later, I will tell others, but this is MY decision and I simply do not want to hear anyone's negative opinions about a decision that was very personal for myself. The ones I have told have been very supportive, but I knew they would be and that's why I shared with them. I haven't been lying though, just consider it a bit of a loophole, I simply tell them that I am having outpatient surgery to have a hiatal hernia repair which is the truth. Every person is different and I think it just has to be whatever you are comfortable with, plain and simple.....to each their own.

One guy posted on here a really graphic description of what happens when you get stuck, he said that you don't actually vomit, but it's more like how a bird regurgitates to feed her babies, that it simply slimes back up. He said typically it happens when you eat too fast or too much, that you will first start feeling your saliva accumulating and then all of a sudden, the food just comes back up. I'm glad he posted that because it really makes me think and hopefully will make me more aware when I am eating or drinking because I just don't want that happening! I see that you are in Albany or Allbenny, who did your surgery? Dr. Bagnato is doing mine and he still practices there as well as in Macon. Some time before or after your surgery did you meet with a nutritionist or someone who went over all the do's and don'ts about what to eat and how and how to drink, etc.?
