  1. I was on a 1500 calorie diet before surgery so I could have what I wanted. Just couldn't go over 1500 calories. Then I was on a liquid diet for a week after surgery seen my doctor he moved me to soft foods last week and I can have regular food starting Wednesday YAY!!!! However tonight is not a good night for me bc I feel like all I want to do is eat and plus I think I have an incision infected and for some reason I'm in alot of pain which worries me so back to the doctor I go tomorrow....And tonight I had my first breakdown cry. Like u can't do this I'm not staying full I feel like I could eat a Big Mac which I'm sure two or three bites I be done..lol and I was like idk if I made the right decision and maybe I shouldn't of done it.....sigh rough night

    JULY 2013 BAND BUDDIES

I'm on soft foods right now and I feel like I could eat every couple hours I am starving. So today I had a break down and don't know if I could do this and maybe I shouldn't of done it I had my cry but people keep reassuring me that once I can introduce food back into my life I will get full and once I get the band filled it will help even more. My fill isn't until September 10. But my doctor gets a visit from me tomorrow even though I seem him last week...I think one of my incisions is infected and for some reason I'm having really bad stomach pain so guess we shall see what happens

Newbie Here! One week 9 pounds!!

Jellybean congrats on your surgery! I had mine july 30 2013. And not being that hungry in this first phase I think is normal. Because the first few days I could care less if I ate but I knew I had too. As far as your mushy diet I guess it would be the same thing my doctor considers soft. But you can have eggs tuna chicken salad egg salad apple sauce fat free sugar free pudding oatmeal. You have more options with the soft phase. I'm in Kentucky so it could be different because I have seen other people say they have gone from liquid to mushy to soft and to regular food. Everyone is different as is their doctors. I get to start back on regular food Wednesday. Also I'm apart of this support group that is with my doctors office and its on facebook and a lady messaged me on there and we got to talking and she told me about this. So I have two support groups and I think it's great bc everyone can share their ideas ask for opinions and just share their goods and bads. I've lost 21 lbs with pre-op diet a week before and surgery and I'm happy. Just moving right along. Just remember its portion control

    Lapband or sleeve?

I am glad I got the band. I know to many people who have had gastric bypass and yes they lost quickly but to this day they are still suffering. I also don't like the dumping syndrome that comes with the sleeve and bypass. The band for me was a right choice bc I am in my child bearing years and when I decide to have kids they can make the band bigger so your baby can get all the nutrients. And also if need to be I can get this removed. Which I don't plan on it. My surgery was 7-30-13 I have lost 21 pounds so far. Also with the lap band surgery afterwards when your on your liquid diet then u get more than a bypass patient same goes with your soft foods too. I just think this surgery is less invasive and its laparoscopic. 5 incisions. And it's been a week since my surgery and I feel great. You move faster along with the band it seems that the bypass takes awhile
  8. Donna. I feel like everyday gets better. It still takes alot out of me to shower but I feel the pain gets better every day. I go to the doctor today for a follow up so we shall see what the doctor says.

    Post-Op Liquid Diet Timeline

I just had my surgery July 30th and I'm over the liquid diet as well. I see my doctor tomorrow and hopefully he will move me to soft foods. I haven't had any broth since probably Friday. And I'm over jello my mom gave me some and I was just like take it back. Popsicles have been my friend as well as my protein shakes. I'm so ready for eggs and tuna I'm just hoping he lets me go tomorrow ill be in heaven bc I have more choices with soft food
  11. Donna I wish you the best of luck. I know it's not hard to stress and worry because I was there too. I was wanting my surgery done before I went back to work and I started stressing as the end of July approached. I just kept praying about it and on July 23 they called and said insurance approved it and that my doctor scheduled me for the following Tuesday he opened that day for me because normally he just does the surgeries on Wednesday's and he knew how important it was to me to get this done. If u don't mind me asking what state you're from..I mean if ur from Kentucky/Indiana I could give u my doctors name. But stay positive everything will work out
  12. I am feeling pretty good. Just sore more than anything. In the beginning I wasn't worried about food. I've been doing chicken broth and protein shakes and Popsicles. I'm kind of over the jello. I am starting to get hungry. I see my doctor tomorrow so hopefully he will put me on soft foods. Then ill have more options. I'm still taking it easy. But I feel good and I'm glad I went with the band. I believe it was the best choice for me. How are you feeling? I know the first couple days were kinda rough just bc of walking and stuff. I do sit with a pillow across my stomach. Also you may want to get gas-x pill either the chewable kind or the kind that dissolve bc I was miserable the other day my chest was so tight from the gas and when I took one I felt alot better. Ask your doctor though. It's just kinda hard to burp in the beginning and that's why they want u walking. It helps
  13. Hey guys! I just had my surgery this past Tuesday July 30th. I was 389 when I started and with my pre-op diet I lost 14 pounds. I too had to eat all my fav foods. I know and hope eventually I can enjoy them again just in a different way. I'm feeling good. Just to the point where I'm tired of the liquid diet that is after surgery. I'm so ready for my soft mushy food diet. I found out about this site last night through a girl who is apart of the norton weight management support group on Facebook. This is great we have all these ways to support one another and to get each other through the highs and lows of our new beginning.

    Medications

Hey there! You can still take pills. Your just swallowing one at a time. I was sent home with liquid pain medicine. I mean if you're on routine medicine like I am then of course I have to take it. They just don't want u to take it all at once. So one pill at a time is just fine. I too got the gummie vitamins I also got the chewable multi vitamin. I think they are better just because I'm not fond of swallowing pills one at a time now. But as long as you do one pill at a time you're good.

    August 5th!

I just had my band surgery on Tuesday. My doctor just required a 1500 calorie diet before surgery. I'm on the liquid diet now...but I'm ready to move it forward to my soft food diet bc I have alot more options. Good luck to all!
  16. I just had my band surgery on Tuesday and according to my doctor you don't want a lot of alcohol in your system. It could make your band become erosion and slip. The occasional drink I don't think will hurt but its not something if your out with friends u don't want to drink one after another. Bc it could cause u to throw up and therefore if that happens your stoma is swollen above your band and you won't get anything down for at least 12 hours so then you will be stuck on a liquid diet for 12 hours until ur stoma shrinks back down below the band. If you can have a good time without the alcohol then I say to avoid it. But on a special occasion I don't think one would hurt you.

    First NSV pre-op!!!!!

I started at 389 before surgery and had to go on my 1500 calorie diet two weeks before. My surgery was this past Tuesday and I weighed in at 374. My scale did go back up some but it's bc of all the swelling from surgery so if you see your numbers go up don't get discouraged. I weighed in today and I'm down 373. I will take that sixteen pounds! Good luck with your surgery!
