    Could use some help

Only 26lbs? Really? Please think about that....26lbs...26lbs!!! In what? Under 2 months? Reset your thinking because this will not be your worst roadblock. Be proud of what you have accomplished, as you should be. It may take many more fills before you hit the green zone. This is a process. You will learn along the way what works for you and what doesn't. Protein is very important and there are a lot of ways to get it; yogurt, low fat cheese, eggs, cottage cheese, nuts and of course lean meats and fish. Stop beating yourself up and being impatient, this takes time. With this surgery losing 2 lbs a week is considered success...you are losing what? 3lbs a week? Reevaluate your expectations.

Depressed, discouraged. No Weight Loss, Hungry, Help!

Wow. 6ccs already? I am over a year out and just now have 8cc's in a 14cc band. I am getting close to the green zone but not quite. First you are ONLY 7 weeks out. You are still healing from the surgery. This is not a magic bullet that has huge, instant results. It is a process. My advice is to talk to your doctor and nutritionist and reevaluate your expectations. You will get there; not over night, but then again you didn't put the weight on over night (or even in 7 weeks.)

I want it out! Frustrated and depressed...

I hope you get things worked out for the best whatever that may be. I have lost slowly with the band and i am good with that. My doctor is not super aggressive with fills. He says that better to go slow and creep up on the green zone than to get in the red and have to have some out. I do know that one day something will go down just fine and another day the same food might cause a little trouble. I try to be careful with every bite and eat slowly. I find that eating slowly will give the previous bite a chance to get down there and see if there is going to be any problems. You don't want to pile on a problem bite on top of problem bite and than later you are in for it. There is a learning curve for sure. Pasta and bread should be a no no...I do still occasionally have a piece of toast but no bread and no pasta. I don't know if anything in my experience will resonate with you or help, but there you have it. Best wishes to you again, whatever the outcome!
  5. Calm down. You have 6 days to get yourself some recovery time. Go to Urgent Care and make sure you don't need an antibiotic. If you do tell them of your surgery date and see if you can get the one that you only need to take for 7 days or a liquid one since you won't be able to take pills after surgery. My husband and son just had something similar but without the eye problem. It lasted about 5/6 days. Drink fluids, run a vaporizer or cool mist humidifier in your room at night and drink LOTS of fluids. We all also took extra Vitamin C (Airbourne gummies). It prevented my youngest and I from getting sick and helped the other two get well quicker. I wish you a speedy recovery and congratulations on the upcoming WLS.
  6. YOU LOOK AWESOME!!!! Keep up the great work!!!

    Camping Food

Assuming you have a cooler....Hard boiled eggs, yogurt, hummus,. Assuming you will be cooking eggs, scrambled. I usually take a large baggie of chopped chicken and pineapple in Hawaiian marinade to be cooked later. You can get tuna in pouches. Grab some mayo packets at a fast food place if you like to add right into the pouch. Hamburgers with out the bun perhaps. =)

    Is it fair...

Agree with the others, the lap band, contrary to some people's beliefs, is NOT the easy way out. It take a lot of work on our part. I was at the doctor today for a fill and he said that he has some people at a year down just 10 lbs. It is what you put in. So sign up and go for it!
  9. Okay, so I hate milk and the texture of it, so Protein shakes for me are no different. Ick...like gag ick. BUT I CAN drink the International Delights light iced coffee. So when I go on a liquid diet after a fill, I rely on that, especially when my blood sugar drops (diabetic). So then I thought IF I can handle and actually ENJOY the iced coffee drink, flavor and texture, is there a way to make a Protein shake taste like that? Anyone have a recipe or a brand that can give me the iced coffee flavor but with protein?

    New Beginnings

I don't understand...you stretched your stoma? How did he determine that is was stretched? What is to be done about that? And why is the doctor waiting a whole year to see you again? Pardon my ignorance....

    Self image, anger, & resentment

My husband never stopped 'chasing me around the kitchen table,' sex has never been lacking. That said, he tells me much more often now that I am 'hot' and chases me a bit more. At first it was nice. Then it pissed me off. I thought, 'he is being SO much nicer to me now that I am losing weight.' I wondered was it purely physical with him behaving this way; b/c men ARE physical creatures. But I have also figured out his reaction to me has changed for more than just THAT reason. I am taking better care of myself; my appearance, clothes, make up, jewelery..MY attitude has changed, ie I am happier and putting off a more positive vibe therefore triggering his overtures. And lastly, I believe he is so happy and relieved that I am healthier (diabetes meds reduced from 2 oral meds and 6-7 shots a day to 1 oral med and 1 shot a day) that in general his mood is lighter and more playful concerning me. As we all know, or figure out, losing this much weight, is NOT just physical it is a mind game as well.
  15. I am very sorry to hear of your emotional roller coaster. You trust someone with your heart and then find their motivation in the relationship is less than what you imagined. Never doubt that you made the right decision to get healthy even if it meant losing him. Perhaps, as you heal, you will realize that losing him will make you even healthier in mind. Cutting lots of dead weight all at once. Make the decision to get back on track, but give yourself time to grieve the loss of the relationship.
  16. Before I lost weight I was never cold; I was always warm/hot. No, cold is not the most comfortable situation, but to me, it is a celebration of change! I would rather wear a jacket, sweatshirt or even a coat (hardly EVER wore a coat before!) than almost 50 extra pounds for warmth! Besides, now I can sit in a ball on the sofa, reading or watching tv, with my feet under me and my knees drawn up because my belly is no longer in the way...as much. lol Any other 'weird' NSV's?
  17. Sherlock1969

Not sure what's going on :(

You have lost 30lbs in 4 1/2 months and that is not fast enough? Sounds like a great loss to me....
  18. Thanks. Good to know. I can't find it at GNC online, but see Amazon sells it.
  19. I am going to check this out! Thanks. Did your surgeon know you were taking this and did he/she approve? Just curious.

Eating and exercising habits the only change?

Oh yes!! I tried to articulate a topic similar to this before. I took a good hard look at myself during the journey; and continue to do so. I had an abusive father until I was 7 (he died a rather traumatic death), my stepfather was wonderful but emotionally distant, my older sister was border line abusive and her behavior overshadowed most of my childhood, I was molested when I was 13...you get the point. Don't get me wrong, I look back and think I had a pretty decent childhood overall, but some real rough spots. I took on a victim's attitude. I am proud to say that is no more. I am NOT a victim of anything, circumstance or otherwise. I strive everyday to be a better person, a better mom, wife, daughter, friend. I try to live by the motto 'expect less, give more.' I have re-examined my relationship with my sisters....I see my errors and try to correct them. I don't go to them to 'discuss' our 'problems' anymore (never worked anyway) I just changed MY attitude towards them. I can only control my reactions and actions. They are the same, I am less stressed. I had the confidence to start working again after being a stay at home mom for 15 years. I love it! My past no longer defines me, but it has helped make me who I am today; a better me rather than a shattered me. It is a choice to move forward; we only get one chance at life, I am no longer gonna squander it; I choose happiness! So, yep, lots o changes! Lovin it too! Great post!

    New to forum, advice please!

I understand your decision completely. I only told my husband, my oldest son (15) (not my younger son, 7), my mom, my sisters, brother and best friend. I wish I had NOT told my brother and sisters. I am a little sad for you that you don't feel you have a least one person that you can completely and unconditionally trust. It is completely your decision to make and we will all be here for you when you need us. I hope you have a wonderful surgeon that has a wonderful staff. I see the Nurse Practitioner for fills and LOVE him! He has been a wonderful support and source of encouragement; I hope you get that as well, especially if you share with no one else. Fills are no big deal. The first one is only because you don't know what to expect. My NP has me lay down with a pillow under my lower back, hands behind my head and then he feels for my port and fills. The most uncomfortable part is him pushing on my belly to locate the port; and uncomfortable is a strong word for it. The actual putting in of Fluid (after drawing a bit out to make sure they are where they belong) is a little weird. To me it feels like a heartbeat in that area. Weird, not painful. I went to my first one and all subsequent ones by myself. I am a mom of two boys; I didn't want my little one knowing what was going on...partly because I didn't want him to tell everyone partly because I didn't want him to worry....so I was back up and running pretty much after a few days post op...the gas was the worst for me and the bloating. I took it easy, don't get me wrong, I got them off to school and had the day to rest. Green zone...don't think that is going to happen right after surgery (it does rarely). I am almost a year out and am not quite there. It takes some work but the band is a wonderful tool if you use it wisely. Follow doctor's orders with what and how to eat and you WILL succeed. Changes will not happen over night, but they will happen! Best wishes to you and I hope this helped!!!

Came back to forum, because I need support...

I agree with Terry re: single. I have a friend divorced for 7 years...no weight problem but her attitude exuded from her even when she didn't realize it...it told people she was NOT interested. As soon as she said to me that she was ready to 'consider' dating she got asked out within the month. No kidding. I think our attitude and the way we feel about ourselves is broadcasted to other people. A size 10 is a GREAT size! Work on the inside and see what happens. And yes, keep the Protein, even up it, and cut out sugary Snacks. Good luck to you.
