Worried - please respond
Teri818 replied to Teri818's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What would be the signs I would be feeling if I did damage? Oh I am so mad at myself for blowing it today!!! I have done so well. Even though I may have had a little more than just a cup a couple of times, the food I had was healthy....but not today. I feel so bad. I know I am back on track. Like I said...what I got out of eating today is sure not worth the guilt and worry I'm feeling now!!! -
Hello - I had my surgery on August 13th. I don't get my first fill until September 23rd. I just started eating solid foods. I've done really well in trying not to overeat but am dealing with a lot of head hunger issues - craving certain foods. Today - we had a potluck at work and I know I overate. I ate things I shouldn't have and feel so guilty and worried!!! I am not supposed to eat more than a cup of food per meal and I know I ate quite a bit over that - plus it was things I should not have - a piece of fried chicken, some baked beans, a little bit of spaghetti, etc....yes I blew it!!! This is first time I've done this since I started this journey - even going back to the 2 week pre-op diet. I had lost 18.2 lbs. from the day I started my 2 week pre op diet to 6 days after my surgery and was happy with that. Without feeling any restriction since I've not had my fill, I was able to consume way more food than I should have!! I will be so glad to get my fill!! So - my question - will this one meal damage anything - I mean - would it have stretched my pouch or the opening or anything? I know I am not going to do this again - I just feel horrible - so guilty....I've been doing so good and then ate all this food today!! People have started to tell me they can tell I'm losing and I don't want to go through all of this for nothing!!!! HELP PLEASE!! Teri

Thanks so much everyone. I am not in any pain so I am praying that I did not damage anything. I will go back to doing my protein shakes twice a day for a few days and a light dinner. Overeating is not worth the guilt and the worry I am now feeling!!! I am praying all is fine. -
My dietician told me I can have 1/2 to 1 cup of food per meal. I'm having a hard time and don't want to eat too much. I'm only one week out after being banded, won't have a fill for 5 more weeks and I am afraid of eating too much. One cup is not much and I can't really tell anything is different after my surgery so I'm having a hard time. I know that I eat too fast....so I'm trying to be really conscious of this and slow down. What are some of you eating in this mushie stage? I'm all worried too because am supposed to go to 2 events this weekend and of course both have food there - so what would be something good for me to take with me for me to eat? I know at one event, they are having sloppy joes....definitely can't do the bun...but would it hurt for me to have it with no bun??

Yes I so relate to what you are saying. I know I have ate more than just a cup of food at a couple or 3 of my meals....but I am trying to make it that even if I go over the 1 cup, that it's food that is good for me such as low fat cottage cheese, baked fish, tomatoes, sugar free/fat free pudding. I just will be glad when I finally get my first fill so that I can feel the restriction which will help me to not be so likely to eat too much!!!! I so want this all to work....but heh - I'm a food addict...and I love food....and this is hard. I'm struggling but not about to give up. Just worried & wanting that first fill!!!
-
Thanks. Yes...that is what I'm doing. I am following his instructions and doing mushies. Just had a few of these questions because of not really feeling any restriction, and worried because I don't want to eat more than the cup of food that I'm allowed - I just have a really hard time slowing down my eating - but I am working hard on it!!!
-
So...those of you who are already banded, do you remember if your eating felt any different right after surgery and before your first fill? I know they say to chew chew chew and I'm doing that but I don't seem to have any problem at all with anything going down. I'm thinking once I get my first fill, I will notice a difference (?)

My doctor's instructions on my first appointment one week after surgery was to go on mushies and to have 1/2 to one cup of food per meal.

I was just banded on August 13th, and have been to my first doctor appt. after surgery. I have lost 18.2 lbs. since I started the 2 wee pre-op diet to now. I was told I could start mushies on Aug. 20th. I know I'm not eating a lot but I don't really feel full when I eat. I'm having a hard time eating slow as I have always eaten too fast. I'm worried and don't want to eat too much. I had the lasagna bowl recipe that I saw here under recipies and it was delicious - total of 1/2 cup and I was comfortable after I ate it all. But today I had that again plus a tablespoon or so of chicken salad and a small peeled tomato. Am I eating too much? I thought even though I've not had any fills yet that I'd still feel some restriction. I'm confused. I know that I'm eating way less than what I've have eaten in the days before I started all this, but it still seems like I may be eating too much because I am not feeling a restriction. Please help!!! Thanks so much!!! Teri

I was surprised she told me at my first appointment after surgery that I could begin on mushies food. I was banded on 8/13 and went to first appt. on 8/19 and was told I could start mushies on evening of 8/19. I know one thing....that cottage cheese sure tasted good!! I was really looking forward to it! LOL

Thanks to both of you! PrettyThick1 - my first fill is not scheduled until 5 weeks from date of my surgery - so I don't get my fill till Sept. 22nd. I hope I will be ok by then. Like I said, I know I'm eating way less than I used to eat, but I also know I'm eating sometimes a bit more than just the 1/2 - 1 cup of food at a meal. I do try to make what I eat have lots of protein - such as cottage cheese and the spaghetti sauce with shredded low fat cheese and parmesan cheese, and today I made some chicken salad made with low fat mayo and some relish plus tomatoes without the skin. I also have been having sugar free instant pudding made with skim milk. I am trying hard to eat slower - I do know that is one of my problems is I'm just eating too fast. Thanks again!!!Teri

I just started mushies this evening. I've lost 18.2 lbs which counts the 2 week pre op died. I was banded on Aug. 13th. Could someone please share some good fish recipes? Thanks much!! Teri

I am only 3 days post surgery. I'm confused in reading all the posts about how you know if you are "full" or not. I've read that some say that they can eat the same as before surgery, even though they have been banded. Is this because they have not had a fill yet? It worries me too because I don't want to eat too much and defeat my whole purpose!! I'm following my diet which is full liquids from day 2 through day 14 after my surgery. Then I can start back on some solid foods. I guess my worry is - am I going to know when I've had enough - even now on full liquids - will I feel full even though I've not had a fill and won't have for 6 weeks? My doctor does not give first fill for 6 weeks in order to let port area heal and for swelling to go completely down. Thanks much! Teri

Pre-op diet killing me mentally!
Teri818 replied to Shante92's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am on my 6th pre op day. Today has been my hardest. I find myself thinking about all the foods "I'll never be able to have again" - I know I need to focus on one day at a time but it's really hard and am craving things. Makes me almost have 2nd thoughts yet I have fought my weight issues for years and the time is almost here and I've gone through so much to get to this point!!! I know it's the mental part right now that is killing me. But I'm really struggling in my head about giving up all my favorite foods and never having them again. Is this crazy thinking or is this normal when I'm getting so close to my surgery date which is in one week?? Help!! Teri -
August 6th...time for a healthy change. anyone else new in august?
Teri818 replied to healthydnp's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm on day 4 of my 2 week pre op diet. I'm having lots of diahreah. Anyone else have this problem? I'm wondering if it's the low fat almond milk that I'm mixing my shakes with. Anyone have any advice here? -

August 6th...time for a healthy change. anyone else new in august?
Teri818 replied to healthydnp's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi - I am brand new here - my first time. I'm scheduled for my lapband on 8/13. I'm nervous but excited. I've started my 2 week pre-op diet and I'm on my 4th day. Surprisingly, I'm not doing too bad. Can't believe I've not had any diet pepsi in almost 4 days!! Even though they say you can during the pre op diet, I decided to just cut it now since they say no carbonation after the surgery. The part that seems hardest for me is that a lot of my social time was around eating out with friends/family. SO I'm feeling rather lost and kind of deprived. I lost my husband 3 years ago and I have eaten out a lot since then with friends/family and so this will be a huge change. I'm ready to get this weight off though. I just need to be sure I keep a variety of "legal" things available that I can have. For those of you on the pre-op diet, do you eat any fruits vegetables during the day, in between your morning and lunch protein shakes?
