my 600 pound life-pennys story
scarbedazzles replied to katt1584's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just read over her fb page and... I'm feeling guilty. I am a non-compliant post-surgery patient. I have lost at this point, 60 pounds... and I've done literally nothing proactive to deserve it! I do walk, but thats it. I'm going to get my little butt in gear...I don't want to end up a failure. I just can't believe she lost NOTHING!!! How can that even be??? I can't eat more than like a couple of ounces or 1/2 cup or so. I think maybe her surgeon didn't take out NEAR the amount of stomach he should've? I know she has issues...but she's an addict! Like us all!! I really empathize with her. I hope she has an aha moment. -
I am 5 mos post op--- how do ya'll feel about this surgery for a teenager?
scarbedazzles replied to scarbedazzles's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Well the reason I'm actually on the fence with this is that she isn't really as overweight as the Dr's in the US would like for her to have surgery, but I know it just multiplies a little at the time and one day you wake up fat and miserable! I also feel the the risks are soooo much less when you are a little less overweight and healthy and younger. I just don't know how to feel!?! They really want you to be huge and almost dead to have the surgery here. I had it in MX and had a wonderful experience. Actually a better hospital experience than any other here in the US ever! -

I am 5 mos post op--- how do ya'll feel about this surgery for a teenager?
scarbedazzles posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm interested in possibly approaching my teen (17 years old) to have this surgery. It has changed my life and future. She isn't as heavy as I was.... but I know from experience that unless something drastically changes, she will be battling this weight her whole life. I really don't want her to wake up one day like I did and be old, worn out...then finally decide to do something about it. I want her senior year and prom to be amazing! I want her to feel beautiful....which she really is a stunning girl, but as we all know, weight puts up a wall we love to hide behind. Input??? I'm having feelings both directions but am leaning towards doing it if she's onboard. -

Interesting Article about The Biggest Loser
scarbedazzles replied to M2G's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I gotta say... I always wanted wls....perhaps desparately so. I also fight daily to continue to lose...not unlike a gladiator. Biggest loser is like winning the weight loss lotto....but its no awesome experience considering you have to weigh in in front of the world. -

My experience in Tijuana, Mexico (VERY long post)
scarbedazzles replied to Diane22's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
My mexico experience was much the same. I went with Dr Rodriguez and Beliteweight.com and the hospital stay for me was two days. I went home the third day. No hotel or shopping for me because I wanted to go on home. I flew through SanDiego and had assistance as well it was wonderful....no waiting in the lines. lol..... I highly recommend the Mexico route for those who can do it. I really think I had a better experience than US surgeries. They are working HARD to gain a reputation. With the internet.... it would take no time to ruin a Dr from anywhere much less Mexico....never understood those people who don't understand this. These Dr's are fighting an uphill battle but they are making a difference. -

Well, here's my 2 cents worth... I am not in that category, BUT.... I had this surgery because of the yo-yo'ing that I've been doing for years. I can do the due diligence and lose the weight, but as soon as the "diet" is over, re-gain seems to take control. I wanted a tool to help me remain steadfast in the amounts I consume forever! I would have done this if I only had 40 to lose. That's a fact you can take to the bank. For me.... this has been a miracle. I have felt fabulous from literally 6-7 hours into day one. Only the anesthesia gave me trouble because I was so far under I think. My surgeon was the best in the business IMHO. There has been true follow up from the start. The coordinator is wonderful and a patient herself so she knows what to tell you to expect. I was blessed to be able to afford to do this as a self pay, but I am trying to figure out a way to pay it forward (or backwards) lobbying to force insurance in the US to cover it due to the health benefits. My blood pressure is normal....blood sugar normal....my health gets better and better every day! I know there are complications as there are with any surgery...but the pros outweigh the cons on this one. I highly recommend the sleeve. I think in the very near future, it will be the gold standard in weight loss surgery. -

8 days post op how do I know if eating too much? ?
scarbedazzles replied to blueyed75's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
its all uphill from here... but your new tummy is still quite numb... you WILL feel when you are full... I promise. Eating is different for everyone but you will feel better as you eat more.... I hated this phase because of feeling weak like you. I quickly progressed to Yogurt (I love it...never did before but it makes me feel good) scrambled eggs...yum, cheese, well chewed meat....like lunch meat.... always protein first.... you'll hear that a thousand times.... rofl I think at 6 weeks I'm up to maybe a half cup per meal....something like that. 4x per day... about 900 cal -

I think its a great idea... Im only 6 weeks post op but ill contact my coordinator who has had plastics in MX and see who she likes.... keep this thread going...it will grow im sure -
Wow... I'm so sorry you are having to go through this. I had my surgery in MX and was very worried about having a distant surgeon. Mine has happily been very uneventful and my team has stayed in touch constantly even though it's in another country. I have seen many on here with staples for closing incisions. Mine were adhesive and healed super well. Call your DR time and time again if needed..... don't take no for an answer. He has a reputation to worry about so- you take care of you- I know your scared... this isn't like having a pedicure. Dr's sometimes have a bit of a GOD complex... they have to be kept humble yet confident. I hope it's just nothing... but if not.... I wish you all the best from my heart.

Would it be a bad idea if my support person was my 13 yr old son?
scarbedazzles replied to atlchick's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I agree with most of the opinions I've seen here.... I took my 16 year old daughter with me, but she looks and acts 23. Everyone at the hospital thought she was much older. Having said that, once we got across the border I actually was worried about her. Everything ended up fine.... but if there had been a major complication, she'd have been in a panic and unsure of what to do. I do recommend you take a friend.... even though the chances of anything going wrong are less than 4%. Good luck.... muah!!! -
*sigh..... too small? TOO SMALL??? I want that to be my thought at least once!!! rofl.... I'm tall at 5'7" so as a kid I was at the top of the bleachers dead center for every pic....I felt "bigger" before I was actually bigger.... I just wanna wear sexy heels without feeling like Big Bird. Ballet was just a joke for me even though my Mama made me go for 13 years... I was thin and a great dancer, but still.....5'7"....not exactly "prima ballerina" status..... I guess I'll settle for tall and "willowy" roflmbo
