  1. Jim Jim Jim.... Wow, you thief; those were some of my thoughts intermingled in that rant! --hugs-- Occasionally I will read post to my hubby that the noncompliant bandsters make: --- last night for supper I had fried pork chops, Mac n cheese, cornbread, corn on the cob, mashed potatoes & a jug of ice cold sweet tea. I chewed really well but i still occasionally felt that pain in my chest and took my time but it took me about an 1 1/2 hours to finish eating my entire meal. I am 1 month post-op and I thought this band was supposed to "make me eat less"? I tried it once, but i just can't live off of 2 cups if food. First we were shocked & floored! Then we just would stare at each other like "it's happening again, what is wrong with these people"! Now, I just shake my head and say "well I guess they aren't as sick and tired of being fat as I am"! --- hubby says if they would have dropped 10k for their band then maybe they would be more compliant, but that theory has also been disproven. ....carry on....carry on
  2. My bad, thought you lost 38 lbs in 2 wks!!!
  3. Hey Crystal, great job on the wt loss! I have been banded 9 wks and lost: 48 lbs total; 37 lbs since surgery. I started walking on the treadmill 2 wks from surgery and rarely miss a day. Started out only 15 mins & now up to 1 hr (with occas jogs). This exercise without a doubt has helped me with the inches. I have dropped 4 pants sizes; 3 shirt sizes & 2 shoe sizes. Clothing that I could wear at a weight 20-25 lbs lighter than i am now, has been recycled b/c it is simply huge on me. You did not mention what your exercise routine is, so not sure. I hate that you are so disappointed and feel frumpy with such an incredible wt loss. I just wanted to share how although my wt loss is not overly impressive, my loss in inches has been tremendous.... only wish I would have measured! Anyway I wanted to share what has helped me and hope it in turn helps you! ---good luck, we are all in this together!

    Hormonally hungry..aaaahhh

I read where estrogen is stored in fat cells and released during wt loss. Which could account for the spontaneous cravings, also read it could make one behave a little hormonal.... as women this is hard to avoid but manageable, esp if we see it coming! I have already warned hubby & instructed him to put me in check if I start acting CRAY CRAY! So just know its not in your head, this too shall pass... (eventually...lol)... and make decisions regarding food choices that will not bring you down. If you can splurge and account for it in your food diary, then tweak other choices to reach your caloric goal, super! But if you have little control and a few bites will push you over the edge, then avoid the temptation and find something to divert your thoughts. Do not beat yourself up! Do not feel like you failed b/ c you had a taste..... that's called LIVING! --all in moderation-- For my occas chocolate craving I use PB2; the chocolate peanut-butter kind (its a powder). I mix a scoop with Water to make a paste, add a little Truvia to sweeten more; occas toss in a few pecan chips and it taste like a Reese Cup! It is very low in fat, low calories & high Protein. It allows me to tame my craving and then I'm done but I do not deny myself a few simple pleasures... that has always equaled failure for me personally! I bought my PB2 off Amazon -----best wishes

  12. Question about Protein absorption: Has anyone's doctor or nut told them how much protein can be absorbed at one meal? I am to ingest 80g protein/day, on an 800 calorie diet, divided into 3 meals, no Snacks. --roughly: 27g protein for each meal-- My morning Protein shake has 47g protein, 160 calories, 5 carbs.... just wondering if I am absorbing all of 47g protein? (I actually add 4 scoops of whey powder to these morning shakes but could reduce to 2 scoops if I'm not actually absorbing it all) (2 scoops = 15g...so 4 = 30g) (plus EAS 17g) I know various factors exist for absorption: -Type of protein -Solid/Liquid protein -How Active you are (exercise) -Muscle mass / Body composition / MvsF -Last time Protein was ingested -Digestion/absorption difficulties .....blah blah blah Just wondering if anyone's been specifically given a max amount for one meal? -thanks for your help

the walk run walk run method??

Walk 3 mins Jog 2 mins Run 1 min ....repeat 3 times... total 18 mins= wrkout done! I am still a work in progress and I would not consider my "faster jog" really running BUT I have lost 48 lbs since July 16th. About 3 weeks ago I increased my workouts to 1 hr walks w/ occas slow jogs (just b/c I am trying to increase my over all endurance b/c we have a trip planned to tour the Vatican next year), but I am seriously thinking of going back to this 3 x wk. --good luck
  14. I have noted posts in the past that claim flying causes swelling. Most suggest to hold off on a fill prior to filing and stick strictly to liquids first 24hrs (occas 48hrs) after flying and then slowly progress to mushies! Also warm liquids like tea will help with the swelling and if you must eat out try Soup. --hope this helps

    Pack for surgery?

PILLOW for the ride home (to splint your abdomen, esp w/ bumps in the road). If you live a few hours away I would suggest bringing a cooler with a couple of drinks (gator aid was nice). Make sure your PAIN MEDS are filled PRIOR to leaving the hospital (I did not do this and suffered until the next night before we could get it filled)(also some pharmacies do not carry the liquid pain meds in regular stock). Dress for comfort and make sure you wear something that is easy to maneuver for potty breaks (nothing tight on abdomen). Stock up your panty prior to surgery and make sure you have enough post-op food to make it at least a week. Gas-ex for gas pain... some claim it works... some not... but if your having lots of gas pain it just may make you feel better to take it (comes in ready melt strips). Be prepared to walk walk walk (to reduces gas pain) have a path mapped out in the back yard or house that is free if objects because you will not want to trip, fall or pick things up out of your path. --good luck--

    Post-op Seroma

I had about 8-10 cc removed on my first fill 3 wks post-op. It was very uncomfortable when my doc aspirated the Fluid out via syringe but not overly painful. It was a single occurrence and no issues since, currently 8 wks post-op. I was down around 14 lbs at the 3 wk mark BUT measured all intake, kept a food diary, exercised daily, maintained 800calorie diet & consumed my required Water.... and still do. Just don't get discouraged, remember everyone drops wt at different rates and this too shall pass! --wish you the best--

    Help! Too tight?

--I would take their advice-- question: Is the foam what others refer to as "slim"?

    Drinking when eating...

I have an 11cc band: 1st fill= 3cc (3 wks post-op) just had my 2nd fill= 1.5cc (3 days ago); (total 4.5cc in band) and I have ZERO restriction! Really like the funnel analogy... it really means I need to get this drinking while eating under control.

    Drinking when eating...

I AM IN THE SAME BOAT!!!!! I also BATTLE trying not to drink while eating. It is just a lifelong habit that appears to be extremely hard for me to break. Your wt loss is awesome...congrats! I was banded 8 wks ago down: 47 lbs from heaviest & 35 lbs from surgery; just had my 2nd fill and feel zero restriction from my band. I have to exercise 1 hr/day on the treadmill and measure 1/2cup servings for all my food....YES, I'm still hungry after 1/2 cup but scared to stretch out my band, and even more sick and tired of being fat so I just tell myself "no more food, kitchen closed"! I am also curious if I could kick this drinking while eating habit if my weight loss would be more successful!
