Well, I have been overweight most if not all of my life. I have tried just about every diet known to man with little to no results. I had almost resigned myself to the fact that I will be fat for the rest of my life and that is something I will have to deal with. No boyfriend, no prospects, not anyone even interested in me. To be honest I has resigned myself to that as well....that I would be single as well as being fat. On the bright side, I am outgoing, friendly, vivacious person and I love my life, job, family, friends and dog =) I am lucky in that the only medical side effect of my weight is mild sleep apnea, my BP and everything else is just fine....for now. So......

At the age of 42, I decided in April of 2013 that I NEED to help myself make a major change in my life and decided to pursue the LapBand. I did A LOT of research, chose a physician and decided to take the steps to pursue this option. However, my insurance did not cover any aspect of this procedure. I was devestated. I had spoke to my insurance as did Dr. McEwen's office and they said they DID cover this as long as my primary physician felt it was medically necessary. But then when the physican office went to gain the authorization, we were denied saying that my employer doesnt offer that coverage and that they were very sorry. WHAT? So after a couple of months of speaking with my employers HR department, the physicians office and my insurance company I just came to the realization that if I wanted to pursue this then I will have to finance it myself. So now I am in debt, but honestly it is a very good investment.

So on July 30th 2013, I had surgery. I had 12 days of a glorious pre-op diet of Protein shakes, broth and popcicles and I can say that I followed it to a T!!!! Since surgery I have followed all my orders and I am embracing this journey. I would lie if I said I am not nervous, but I am encrouaged.
