Okay bandsters - everyone talks about feeling restriction and I would like to know what it feels like to you? Is it possible that every person feels different? Just had my 2nd fill and have no clue what it is supposed to feel like?

I have yet to find the PERFECT blender - and I do include a vitamix in that - I have gone thru 4 blenders including nutribullets and have now decided to buy the cheapy ones that i can travel with. Currently using a hamilton beach for $15 at Canadian Tire. Pretty good deal.

What does restriction feel like to you?
Red bird replied to Red bird's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thank you - great reply. So, you should not feel something at the back of your throat before it goes down? When I drink Water, I feel it go thru pretty easily. Today, I had eggs and I felt full but now 3 hours later, I am hungry. Is this normal? I was banded in Aug 2013 and have not lost any weight since the band. All weight loss was on the pre - op diet. -
I was banded in August 2013. I had my first fill two weeks ago. She put in 1 and told me to wait a res minutes in the waiting area to see if I could get water down. This being my first fill I had no idea what I should be feeling so I was delighted to sip water and feel fine. Fast coward a couple of days and I feel zero restriction. I called and asked if I could get another fill and have heard nothing. I paid a lot of money ( slimbAnd with no insurance) and I feel like I has to fight for a fill. I paid close to 20 I and I know slimbAnd has their hands full with Dr Yau but I am really frustrated. The customer service has been terrible and I would not recommend this company to anyone. I have lost 10 pounds and feeling kind of lost.

I just had my first fill today and she told me the port flipped as well but that she was able to turn it back. Hope it goes well.

Thank you everyone.

Surgery Aug 9th. Tried to book first fill and after they reviewed my eating log, they told me that I am eating too many soft foods still. It is a challenge to eat 5 time a day. I start with a protein shake with fruit yogurt for snack, some kind of hearty soup for lunch. Cottage cheese for snack. Dinner is chicken and steamed veggies. Really struggling with eating more food and fear of gaining weight. Veterans- I need help
-
An update - I committed to eating harder foods. Since then , I have gained 3 pounds. It doesn't sound like much but I am concerned. I called and have requested a fill. We will see.

I committed this week to eat better. Tonight I had small pieces of steak and a quarter of a baked potato. I carefully watched the clock and took 20 minutes. Feeling ok.
-
If I was honest , then I would admit that it is the weight gain fear that is making me keep a soft diet. I started eating more normal food yesterday and today. Have not stepped on a scale but I am worried. Can you share what a normal day food intake is for you?

Day 4 post op and I just want to feel normal
Red bird replied to kimmykat82's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I embraced the pain meds and just got thru that first week. It is miserable BUT better days r right around the bend. Let your body heal. It does get better. Promise. -
Just know that lap band is not a quick fix. It s a process of relearning about food and eating habits. Read as much as you can. The veterans on this board are a great resource.

weight loss is showing, but I'm not sure how I feel...
Red bird replied to SashaWLS's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You are having a completely understandable response to a conditioned memory. Food was our constant friend Being emotional comes with the package. Some of us hate food. Some of us miss it like a long lost friend. It's time to create some new memories. Take back the power- realize its just food-a substance. You have taken steps to change your future because you matter and are worth it! Take one step at a time. I know when I fixate on a problem, it is hard to see what else this beautiful life has to offer. Be brave- you can do this! -
I had surgery on a Friday and went to work on Monday. It was a bad decision. Everyone heals differently but they are not joking when they say you need to allow your body to heal. I did not start feeling better for a week. Take the time if you can.

Just got my band today
Red bird replied to iturn2dj's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded Aug9th and here is what I have learned- when the veterans on this board tell you to take the time to heal, you need to make you getting back on your feet the priority. My first week was so painful and I went back to work too quickly. Surgery Friday and worked a full day and two hour commute on Monday. Nothing is as important as allowing your body to heal. I have also learned to follow the recommended stages of the diet to the t. You cannot have regular food right after surgery. Yes, you are starving but don't do it. Suck up that gross tasting broth and get thru it when you are allowed full fluids, that protein shake will taste like manna from on high When I got to mashies, that cottage cheese tastes like the best pizza I have evr eaten. Now I am on real food and I will admit that I am nervous. BUT, I am going to follow the lead of the veterans on this board and my doc and dietician and follow the plan. This is a lie change and I am committed to changing my life! -
I am not sure if this is correct but boy oh boy, I love that good hearty burp after I eat. It makes me feel like I have eaten enough and am done. Such a great feeling!

When will i feel normal again?
Red bird replied to rpattilo1972's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OH HON- post surgery is miserable and anyone who says it is not a challenge, is fibbing. I just try to remember what all the veterans say- that this is the time when your body is healing. I know it is hard but this stage sets you up for the future. I cannot imagine that the rest of my life will be eating yogurt and Popsicles. This is just a phase that I have to go thru and that as time goes by, I will learn how and what to eat again. We are all here to support and encourage along the way! stay strong - this phase will end!! -
I despised the first days after surgery. Could hardly wait until all fluids. Now heading into the puréed phase and diet consists of soup and Greek yogurt. Not very exciting but a means to the goal of losing 65 pounds. I do remember my stomachs growling and I would honestly just get through it. My advice is to be convinced of why you got the surgery and stay the course.

As a newbie, I am grateful for the veterans on this board who are available and ,answer repetitive questions from us newbies

How soon after surgery did you go back to work?
Red bird replied to Erin1985's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery on Friday and went back to work that Monday. In hindsight I see I needed more time to heal. Surgery is trauma to the body and it needs time to rest and heal. I would suggest a minimum of a week. Now my weekend is spent trying to catch my breath. -
I feel your pain. I was there since last Friday. I started to wonder why the heck I had done this, was I crazy?? I just committed to the long haul. You r going to feel pretty rough for the next several days. Don't do anything but take care of you! Today is the first day since last Friday that I see hope. It has been a tough week but I know I am on the right path. Take your meds, embrace your eating pad, get moving to get rid of the gas and REST. I promise that a week from now, you too will feel better. For now, just stay the course!

I am1 week post op today and all I can say is I am glad that week is done. I had surgery on Friday and went back to work Monday. Not a great idea and I paid for it. I have had 3 major surgeries including two c sections and so I knew kinda what to expect re gas and pain. I still had issues with pain and GAS. I don t have any great suggestions but my heating pads and meds were my best friends this week. Just keep your eye on the prize. Commit to just getting thru it. you can do it!

When I bend down, I feel the port.
Red bird replied to Lorettanjgal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What do you mean no bending for a month? What other rules have I missed? Yikes -
just having had surgery last Friday, I cannot imagine what you are going thru thinking you may have to go thru something all over again. I am only a newbie but what I am learning is that this is a lifestyle change and not a quick fix. I thought this was going to be super easy but what it is telling me is that I have to change the way I look at food and what I eat. The band just makes me feel fuller faster. I still have to control what goes in. I would encourage you not to panic. Go to the doc. See what they say and get help. This may just be a big bump in your journey. Its okay to be scared. While I was waiting for surgery which was delayed 1 1/2 hour, i almost walked out twice. We have all been scared and if someone says they haven t been, they may not be telling the truth. Sending good thoughts your way!
