Do you all have caffeine after fills? I had my first fill yesterday morning. I did receive instructions for clear liquids for 3 days, then onto a week of each stage that I followed post op (banded on 7/26). I'll be calling the office Monday to clarify but the only info I have received regarding caffeine (I'm talking coffee here) is to wait 4 weeks post-op due to the chance of reflux. I'm also taking a dissolvable Prevacid a day per the doctor's instructions - they do this as a precautionary measure for the first month or so. Thanks for your feedback! I'm looking forward to a caffeinated latte come Monday when I can have skim milk!

I had my first fill this morning and it was a breeze - a little pinch, a little burning and some liquid to swallow a few times that didn't taste great but otherwise no biggie. I have 4 ccs total in my band now (none was placed during surgery). I'm on the clear liquid diet for 3 days, then 1 week of full liquids, 1 week of soft foods, then on to introducing "normal" foods. I'm excited!

Oh I should add - after the 3 days of clear liquids i can have protein shakes (full liquids) but I can also have puréed soups, sugar-free puddings, cottage cheese, soft low-fat cheeses, skim milk, oatmeal and mashed potatoes.

I was banded on 7/26. Had only 1 day of clear liquids before surgery. Then 1 week after surgery and so on (just like I'll be doing now post-fill). I'm just happy this post fill diet isn't a full week of clear liquids - I can handle 3 days. At least that's what I keep telling myself

I was told I can have caffeinated coffee after 4 weeks due to to the reflux that caffeine can cause. I was just wondering everyone's experience - do you drink regular coffee? how long after surgery were you able to start again? I'm counting the days till I can have my fix !!

I'm so sorry this happenned so soon after surgery when healing and taking good care of yourself is of primary importance. If you continue to feel pain I would contact your doctor. I hope you feel better soon. Think soothing thoughts and take care. All the best. -

Hi all! I get my first fill on 8/23. I've made the appointment and gotten paperwork from the nutritionist on how to proceed after the fill: 3 days of Clear liquids, 1 week of thick liquids, then mushies and so on, just like after surgery. My question is - what is the actual reason for this? I understand the slowing down, small bites and lots of chewing but I wasn't 100% on the reason for the liquids. Thanks!

What have you tried? There are so many out there. I love the premier protein ready to drink.

Discouraging?! :/ 17 Days Post Op
miss679 replied to txgirl10326's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Toni - I was also banded on 7/26 so today I am also 17 days post op. I can tell you that according to my scale at home I've lost about 11 lbs. (I am a much higher BMI than you) I try not to compare my weight loss during this period since I haven't had a fill yet and my band is currently empty. I agree that this time is supposed to be focused on healing. I asked my nutritionist if I should be counting calories now and she said no but I do it anyway to keep myself in check. I'm concentrating on eating what I've been told is allowed during this time and walking as much as possible. You're doing great! I wish you the best of luck! -

Protein shakes - Hard to choose
miss679 replied to greatlyblessmom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use Premier Protein - I've tried both the vanilla and chocolate. They're pretty good and I like that they have 30 grams of protein and 160 calories. I use the ready to drink version. -
JULY 2013 BAND BUDDIES
miss679 replied to sprinkle715's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also have no fluid in my band and ha begun to feel a little concerned about weight loss. I'm counting calories even though I was told by my nutritionist not to worry about that and am sticking to my post-op diet. Tomorrow I will move to soft solids like eggs, soft cheeses and lentil soups. I'm so grateful for this forum - we are all in the same boat in one way or another! -

Being REALISTIC

Wow - that's a fantastic record! How filled are you? -
I had my first post-op visit with my surgeon yesterday and everything is going well so far. He checked the incisions (2) and I had to ask where my port is because I had no idea! I thought it was where I have a huge bruise (doesn't hurt) but apparently that's where the shot for heparin was given. My port is to the right of my belly button. I scheduled my first fill, for the 23rd and spoke with the nutritionist about what to expect in terms of a post-fill diet. I also learned that there is no Fluid in my band at this time (I had read that some have a bit of fluid placed during surgery). I do feel less hungry than I ever thought I would be during the post-op diet. However I am looking forward to scrambled egg and tuna come Friday and ultimately to a fill that is right for me. Thanks for letting me share!
