What the heck?! My scale is KILLING me!
SandyM replied to BandedInBama's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
Are you drinking enough water? -
I had lapband over a year ago. 2 of my scars are faded, 1 is totally gone and my big one by my port is still pretty bright.

What he said. This is a very temporary stage. Try to use it to get a jump start on your weight loss. They make lots of sugar free candies, but you'd be better off on focusing on your Water, however you have to do that.

When Did Most People Reach The Green Zone?
SandyM replied to Shauny08's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I asked my surgeon why one could be in the green zone and then not. He said that basically the stomach just becomes more efficient and shrinks some as it becomes so requiring the band to be adjusted. Kind of like tightening your belt after you've been working out for a few weeks. As for how long it takes one to get in the green zone, as you can imagine, it varies and depends on a lot of things. Like, how tight your band was when installed, how much you have to lose and how much you lose, how aggressive your fills are, size of band. etc. It takes some people 3 fills, some 6 or 7. Each fill will get you closer. I had not had a fill since December. I tend to keep my band on the loose side anyway, so I guess you could say I was barely green. I started noticing that I was constantly thinking about the next meal or even a snack, I think I had slipped into the yellow. I went to see my surgeon and he gave me .25 cc and moved me back into the green. I could have probably held more. As said I'm barely green, but right where I want to be. -
Starting from scratch... But with a WAY better attitude this time!

Way to go. It is a fine art learning to not cope with stress by eating. -
Lap band with Plication Question
SandyM replied to jlj1110's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Another thing good about the plication is it pretty much eliminates bandster hell. I love my band/plication. -
Sliders are different to a lot of people. For instance sugar cereals for me are sliders but healthier ones like raisin bran and shredded wheat are not.

ANYONE ELSE GET PLICATION WITH LAP-BAND?
SandyM replied to manofsize's topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
I had band with pliation and hernia repair. I'm 15 months out and have pretty much reached goal. There are several on here who've lost their weight without fills. I've had fills but not too many or too much. The band and plication is a good combo. I think I could have done it with plication alone, but it would have been slower and more work. The whole thing with the band is just because you can eat it doesn't mean you need too or have to. Learn to stop after you are satisified. -
No, just get on it and stuck with it.

Could this be considered a band bully
SandyM replied to CarmenLeAn's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Exactly. We all have our own reasons that apparently are working. Who gives anybody the right to say what's best for someone else? -
As stated, it will start getting better by day 3 and you'll be pretty much reaching normal at about 1 week. I had hiatal hernia repair, plication and banding and went back to work after 3 days. That wasn't the smartest thing I've ever done, but it worked out.
-
When was your last fill and when can you get another? Just remember you won't have much help with your weight loss until you are in the green zone. Until then, you'll be doing most of the work yourself. I had lost quite a bit of weight on my own before I reached the green zone.

adverse effects of too low a protein would be swelling and muscle wasting.
-
Wow, at least you only gained 45. That'll be gone in no time once you start getting your fills.

Pre op lapband plication
SandyM replied to Amazongoddess's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I hope the process moves on pretty fast for you. The insurance coordinator at my lapband office was able to give me an idea how long the approval process averaged and she was correct to the day. It took me 3 days from the time they received the last of my paperwork to approval. It'll all happen. Spend this time teaching yourself to chew, take small bites and putting your fork down between bites. -
It took me a few weeks to get there. Now, I love it and have a lot better endurance. Give it some time.

Quest Bars - they taste like cardboard
SandyM replied to Zoco's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I'm a fan of quest bars. -
You know a gm of protein is only 4 calories so you can technically get 60 gms protein in 240 calories. So 800+ calories may not have you protein deprived, but you do need some carbs to keep your metabolism up

I just started riding a few months back and I love it. I've tried other exercises and haven't found any I like better than cycling.

Scale not moving, but......

Time to go shopping:) -
I notice that I'm more likely to have problems if I'm distracted

I never thought I'd hear myself say "I don't want to lose anymore". I've been dieting off and on for 40 years. It's always been feast or famine for me. I, like most here, have tried every diet and weight loss program created, even created a few of my own. I don't have a bikini body, but I'm very happy with what I've managed to accomplish with the help of the band. I'm more active and healthier than I've been in a very long time. Whats more, I'm noticing that people don't remember the bigger version of me. My son made the comment the other day to his wife that there's no way I ever was large, He just can't remember that. It's only been a year, lol. I see myself in the mirror and am no longer surprised. I'm adjusting. I saw my surgeon on Thursday and we actually discussed what I can do instead of what I shouldn't do. We are both very pleased with my progress. Now on to the maintenance phase. Just wanted to share my reaching GOAL BABY!!!!!

whey protein or premier? which is better
SandyM replied to dsgxo's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I think Premier is whey. I did the premier cuz they were ready mix and low sugar and high Protein. I make my own shakes now when I want one or grab one at the gym. I do Protein Bars, but, not like I use to.
