Protein shakes - Hard to choose
SandyM replied to greatlyblessmom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Same here. Can only find them at SAMs club. 30 gm protein. I never got hungry preop. -
I have band and plication. I haven't had a fill yet in 3 months. 37 lbs gone. You still have to watch what you eat. As said band is supposed to keep you full longer. You aren't likely to get that if your snacking and not having complete meals. One poster put it.....if you're hungry enough for a meal, eat a meal. But don't snack. That's paraphrased.

I only told a few people and the ones I told have been very supportive. I may tell others later, but for some reason people seem to watch you and wait for you to fail. I don't quite understand it and don't like it. Besides, I'm doing this for me and nobody else.

preop all liquid diet
SandyM replied to renewed_mind's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
applesause is not a liquid. Milk coffee tea water protein drink etc. Even tomato soup......no pudding or applesauce. My preop was 4 protein shakes a day for 3 days and on day 4 I could sub a shake with a garden salad. I usually skipped the salad and stayed with the protein. I lost a nice little bit of weight during that period. -
I had surgery 05.10.13 and at first was disappointed due to my md not giving me fills. My weight stayed the same for 3 weeks and then I started losing. I'm glad I got the band and I'm down 37 lbs. I almost chickened out, but at least I know if I needed to (and I have no intentions) get it removed I could. With the sleeve or bypass youre stuck. I've taken care of several pts in the hospital whove had the other 2 surguries and have suffered lots of complications.

Doing great. Keep up the good work.

Hang in there girl. This journey is worth it. I'm trying to break the plateau. It's gotta happen if we are doing right.

I think most people arent really looking for the "full" feeling as the "satisfied"/"not hungry" feeling. I personally just want to be able to recognize some restriction and I'm not sure that I do. Plus I'd like the satisified feeling to last longer than it does for me. Sometimes I do feel it, but not usually. I'm still feeling like I'm doing this on my own, without help. Which concerns me if I let my gaurd down for a minute, the weight will come flooding back on like all of the other diets Ive tried in my life. I havent had a fill and its been 3 months. This past 3 weeks I've lost and regained the same pound over and over again. I work out at the gym daily and am careful with my intake and I guess I just want to see that this is paying off some way. I have lost 34 lbs total but all of that was preop postop and the 1st month after surgery. Very little since.
-
Yes you do.

I did preop diet 2 weeks. Mine consisted of liquid protein drinks 4 x per day for 3 days then I could substitute one protein drink with a garden fresh salad daily starting day 4. I wasnt hungy at all. I can only find my protein drinks at Sams and they are Premier protein with 30g protein 1gm sugar and 160 calories. They come in choc and vanilla. I was taking in less than 700 calories a day and lost about 12 or 13 lbs preop. I was told its to get the fat out of the liver to reduce risk of damaging the liver during surgery. The weight loss feels good though.

Ok, you don't have to answer that, LOL. Anyway, I had my lap banding on 5/10/13 and have lost 34 to 35 lbs. I'm bouncing that last lbs. My surgeon doesnt want to fill me. I have absolutely nothing in my band. They removed what little was in at time of surgery on day 3 or 4 due to nausea and I'm told by surgeon probably stomach swelling. Since then, every time I visit, 3 times total, he says he doesnt want to do a fill. I have lost the last 15 lbs by dieting regularly and diligently. I don't recognize saity and usually quit because I know I should. I go to the gym daily and really feel like I should see some results. In the last month, I've lost 2.5 lbs and like I said, that was all me, I'm not feeling the band at all. So, I've called the surgeons office and this time when I go in, I'm going to see my surgeons wife who is the other lap band surgeon. Guess I'm getting a second opinion of sorts. My deal is, my md visits are part of my insurance for the 1st year. My fills will be covered. After the 1st year, I have to pay and noone is sure how much whether it will be a simple copay or full md visit until I meet my deductable. So, I'd like to get this stablized before my visits run out. What do you guys think? Am I over concerned or what? I don't expect the weight to roll off, I just want to feel like I wasnt sold part of a tool. I went into to this to lose weight and thats what Id like to do.

Thanks guys, I was hoping it wasnt just me. I had an appt with him next week but I canceled it and rescheduled to see her week after, thats the soonest I could get in. I hope shes a little more sympathetic. I agree that he sees weight loss, but I tried to explain to him that I'm working really hard for that weight loss and I have the band why not use it. Hopefully she'll be more open to it.

Please respond if you know anything about lab band surgery
SandyM replied to nursecheryl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Make sure when you find another surgeon to talk to, ask about lap band with plication. Its sort like the sleeve combined with the lapband. My surgeon told me it also reduces the risk of slippage to almost nothing and its also reversable. Plus, if you lose your band for whatever reason you can still keep the plication. I've not had a fill yet and have lost 35 lbs. I had my band 5/10/13 and I feel when I finally get my first fill, I won't need as much. Could be wrong, but thats what I'm hoping at least. -
feeling better each day . . . finally!
SandyM replied to bandster12345's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You're getting there. Just remember when you start eating, slow and chew very well so you can possibly avoid some of the other "downs" of the lapband like getting stuck. -
I pretty much feel the same way. I don't really feel full but if I push it too far, I pay. I havent had a fill yet and my surgeon doesnt really want to do one because I'm losing at least 3 lbs a month. But, I do feel like I'm dieting to lose that and dont necessarily feel like I have the "tool". I guess I'll just watch and see how mine goes. Good luck and try eat calories that are nutritious and not empty calories at least. About 3 weeks out was where I started eating normal foods.

Wow!!! Sounds like the salesman has started selling a new product. I also believe you should get another doctor and see if the lapband will work for you again. Surgery is no minor issue and shouldnt be entered into lightly. Afterall, if you do opt for the sleeve and 4 years from now its not the answer either, theres no turning back from that one. Just sayin.....

I just joined a gym yesterday. I've done it before but not in a while. Today was day 2 for me and I feel much better already. Im going to do cardio for a few weeks and then ease into weights. I'm not sure about free weights, just not my thing. I'll probably do the circuits. I figure anything is better than nothing.

I'm new to this forum as you can tell by my post count. I have a question. I had lapbanding with plication on May 10th and with my preop diet forward, I've lost 32 lbs. I have not had a fill and have had 2 doctors appts. My last visit I had lost 3.5 lbs in 5 weeks and my doctor said that as long as I was losing he wouldnt do a fill. Problem is, I feel I'm having to work to lose the weight and not sure whether I'm hungrier than I should be or not. I guess I need reassurance that this is not unusual to not receive a fill.

I think I started getting back to normal at about day 5 or 6. Incisions were bruised and tender for about 2 weeks. I had surg on Friday and went back to Work on Monday. I was sure wishing I had taken a few more days off. Good luck with your journey.

Ok. So at least I know my hiccups are normal. I don't get them everytime though.

May bandings, Updates wanted
SandyM replied to shellbelly's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
May 10th for me. My surgeon says he only wants me to lose 3 to 5lbs a month and won't give me a fill. I was a little put out at first, but then I decided that it may take me longer to lose the weight but while I'm learning my new eating habits, the weight is off for good. I had the plication with my band and I think thats helping. I've lost a total of 34 lbs and 12 of that was preop. I guess if slow and steady wins the race, I should be toward the front. -
I had my band on May 10. I had plication with band. I lost quite a bit preop diet and some post op diet. I've really slowed down and at my last md appt had only lost 3.4 lbs. I was pretty disappointed especially since my surgeon wont fill me. I haven't had a fill yet. On the upside I've lost 35 lbs total and it doesn't look like it wants to come back. My surgeon says after you get so far down, its better to lose it pretty slow. He recommends 3 to 5 lbs a month for me and though I don't like it, time is all I have anyway. So what it it takes a year to lost 40 lbs or so. At least it'll be gone and if I werent doing this, I'd probably be gaining. I'm trying to take a different attitude than I've had with the 100's of diets I've tried and thinking this time I might be on the right track. Good luck to you guys and lets keep track of each other and see how it goes.

What She said! I'd love not to have to take responsibility, but I have to anyway. Too much food, too little exercise etc.
