Very good. Is your surgeon doing just the band or is he adding the plication? If not, you ought to ask about it.
-
Something I didn't think of is if she isnt comfortable with changing out her band for fear of it being foreign object rejection, she might consider just plication. Its very much like sleeve without some of the risks of sleeve and still reversable. I have heard that there are surgeons who will do just the plication. I totally believe since I really feel very little resistence (if any) and am steadily losing weight, the plication has alot to do with that.

miralax in the first cup of coffee in the morning. Not all mornings, just when needed. Can't taste it cant see it. I have tried the colace but nothing. The miralax works faster on some people, but it did take 4 to 5 days for me. Good luck with it. (the clearlax at walmart or sams is just as good.)

Actually, I think the band is still the safest. Just not sure about your surgeon. The problem I had with the sleeve or bypass is if your wife was having problems with either of those, they are not reversable. The band still is. You just have to get somebody to listen. The ideal situation is to lose 1 to 2 lbs a week. Having a surgeon who is building bragging rights to get her to goal fast is just irresponsible. I understand your wife doesnt want to go back in surgery, but rapid weight loss like she has can cause multi system failure. I have a pt in HH who was a botched bypss and she suffers many complications due to it. As others have said here, she probably needs to see someone else. Or, sit downand research (as quickly as you can) everything you can about the band and go with her to her next appt. Thats probably what I would do first.

Actually this one is the one I was trying for.

She probably does have alot of inflammation and swelling........because the band is too small. Its not going to get better until the band is gone. My surgeon told me the lapband ap comes in large and standard and I have the standard with 90 lbs total to lose. I know know your wifes starting weight, but could be the surgeon chose the wrong band. Just sayin......

Do you chug your protein shake or drink it slow and savor it??
SandyM replied to intelirish's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I like premier protein from sams. I still drink at least 1 a day so I can make sure I get my proteins. also, it works great when I don't have time for breakfast and need something quick or finish a hard workout at the gym. 160 cal 3 fats 5 carbs 1 sugar and 30 proteins. And they are delicious. -
Access Port above left breast
SandyM replied to fee139's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Mediports are placed their all the time and I actually have some pretty thin pts who have them and they usually can hide them pretty well. Plus, mediports are bigger than our ports. I dont know that I wouldnt have rather had mine there than the middle of my upper abd. -

I suggest you take measurement. I wish I had gives you another source of confirmation besides scales. You look great. As said, don't wear baggy clothes they hide your weight liss -
Good. So when is your next fill?
-
Best I can tell is its when you can go approx 4 hours between meals before getting hungry and reaching satisfaction with less food. I havent got there yet and have only had one fill. Hopefully, I will know this personally one day.

You'll do great. Good luck.

I'm getting ready to have my 1st fill post-op.
SandyM replied to patd's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As you probably know, your band is like an inner tube wrapped around the top part of your stomach with a port. When it is placed usually it will have just a little fluids in it it placed at surgery. After surgery you will visit your doctor and the dr or nurse will likely inject more Fluid in the port therefore tightening the band around your stomach. This may take several visits to gradually give you the results the band is intended for. Have you already had your surgery or are you still in the research phase? -
I agree that you need to consult your sugeon at length. I had a large hiatel hernia repaired during my banding surgery. I never had food stuck, ust alot of really hot acid. If it did experience sticking, it sure didn't feel like it does now when it happens. But as said, throwing up is not a good idea as it is a cause of slippage.

I'm getting ready to have my 1st fill post-op.
SandyM replied to patd's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was liquids x1 day then mushies x1 then no restrictions. I didnt get much restriction from the 1st and will hopefully get more after my 2nd on the 23rd. Just take it easy and chew well and take small bites. You may not feel restriction for 3 to 4 days from what I've read and as I said, I didnt feel any. Dont let it get you down if you dont, just remember its baby steps for it to be successful. -
I juggle 2 lbs at a time. I try to only monitor my weight weekly keeping in mind it it comes back quickly it probably is water weight and will be gone later. I change my ticker with each drop and don't change it back with the increases because they are not permanent and so far havent been.

ACL injury - hoping for some insite from my lapband buddies
SandyM replied to JenWis6's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I have blown out both of my acls and have no miniscus in either leg. Problem with no acls is stability. I'm pretty much recovered as its been awhile. As for repairing, most surgeons (except maybe sport surgeons) won't touch you around your age due to the fact that you havent got the circulation that you had when you were younger for recovery and unless you are a true athlete, they feel that the recovery time and effort which will likely be fruitless isnt worth the cost or what you'll go through. Plus recovery after acl repair is somewhere around 6 months of detailed physical therapy. I do have a friend that had repair at age 45 and did fine for a while though then damaged them again. As for what you will be able to do, I still do 3 miles on the treatmill at 4.5 mph. I'm short so thats not bad. I would never try to run cuz I'd probably hurt myself. I ride motorcycles and white Water raft and am pretty active. I won't say you wont be able to run, but be careful. You no longer have the needed support to keep your leg straight. Biggest problem with no miniscus, arthritis will likely set in possibly making it necessary someday to have total knee repair. Try to lose the weight as that is the worse thing on your knees. I know that is my biggest incentive, I'd hate to think my husband who weighs less than I do right now would have to lift me to put me on the pot. Also, running isn't good for your knees. At least, thats what my suregone and my daughterinlaw (who is his nurse) told me. Not saying you shouldnt do it, just consider the risks of it all. I hope I didnt discourage you. Bottom line is, don't stop living, but you have to keep this body for quite a few more years. Don't wear it out too fast. -
Hmmm, I've only had one fill but my doc removed the Fluid to check and see how much was there then reinjected it with new fluid. Just seems right. Therefore she knew exactly how much I had in there. How else would you know if your port was leaking or not? If you are eating mostly salads and vegetables, chances are you may not be getting as much Protein as you think you are. Are you eating your Proteins with your vegetables? BTW cheese is a protein. If you have problems with it getting stuck, have you tried the string cheese?

Note to self...don't go to diff Dr. Wait for your Dr's Nurse :/
SandyM replied to WshfullyShrnkng's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I get what you say about goals. I set goals for myself and work towards them. Its not the end of the world if I dont reach them, but if they are reasonable, I should be able to do it. I usually set 7 and 8 lbs goals because they are totally doable. I figure if I set small goals, the big ones will take care of themselves. Also, NSVs are the bomb even if the scales arent moving. I've been going to the gym regularly and friends say I look like Ive lost alot where I'm not seeing a huge change on the scales, I know that will come later. I just enjoy every victory I get. -
If you decide it won't work it probably won't cuz you won't be as committed. Curious, are you journaling? If not you should be. I have a friend who is having problems and she started journaling and realized she wasn't counting everything. My vitamins are 50 calories and I still count them

I don't get how these people who are supposedly trained to do fills have so much problems with ports. I access mediports all the time with no problem. Think if I ever got tempted to do my own fills. -
I agree. I had my band in May and didnt get a fill until last month. I have a surgeon who is very conservative with his fills and didn't get a fill until I booked an appt with his wife and partner. She gave me my first fill. I still don't feel any restriction and hopefully will be closer with my next fill. Sad part is, my visits with him were free for a year. Going to her, I have to pay a copay, but still its worth it. But like some posters here, I took this time to learn new eating habits and starting a postive exercise program and have successfuly lost 40 lbs. It may take me several more months to hit the green zone, I don't want to waste that time.
